The week moved at the pace of a frozen alpine river. Each day, each hour, each minute, Ada half expected the detectives to arrive and arrest her. She jumped at every sound, and sleep became elusive. Josh’s company was the only thing that kept her sane. That and Matt’s calls. He’d rung to warn her they were firing ammunition, and she was grateful when the gunfire started.
