Matt woke to the scent of roast chicken. He remained still, enjoying the moment and feeling heaps better after his snooze. Voices drifted from the kitchen area as Matt slid from the bed and dressed. He took a moment to tidy the bed before he joined Ada and Josh.
“Hey, sleepyhead,” Ada greeted him. “Feel better?”
“Much better.” Matt strode to her and stole a kiss. He didn’t care who was watching or even if it looked as if he was marking his territory, because he couldn’t have stopped himself if he tried.
“You have visitors,” Josh said.
“I didn’t think Ella and Dillon were coming back until later,” Ada said.
Josh craned his neck. “It’s your neighbors.”
“Really? Crap. How can I look at them when I suspect they’re the ones behind the cattle stealing or the other thefts in the area?”
