Ch 16

Susan woke up the next day feeling much better with only a slight ache in her chest that hurts while breathing deeply. Crawling out of the bed in a hospital gown, she inched towards the bathroom to relieve her screaming bladder. Taking longer than usual, Susan finished her business before taking a look in the mirror. What she saw frightened her. Her skin had become dry and dull, her hair was haphazardly braided, her lips were chapped, and her eyes were hollow. Moving the gown to the side, she saw bandages wrapped around her torso. Washing her face and her arms, she used a moisturizer to bring back some health into her skin. After making sure she looked halfway decent, Susan walked towards Zack's side of the room. Standing at his feet, she looked at him as he turned in his sleep. Susan sat down on his bed to stroke his hair causing him to moan out loud. She kept running her hands through his hair till he opened his eyes, staring directly at her with a dark hunger. Taking his silent cue, she leaned down to kiss his lips making both their heart monitors beep erratically.

Moving away from each other, they heard two nurses running into their room. Susan hid her blushing red face in a curtain of her hair while Zack smirked at the nurses.

Understanding the situation, they left them alone, giving them some privacy.

"I normally wouldn't recommend any strenuous activity, but we can make an exception as long as you don't exert yourself too much," said the nurse before walking out and closing the door.

Zack chose that moment to pull her neck down towards his lips again, giving her a gentle kiss.

Susan laid down on his bed, taking special care of her injured chest. She used Zack's chest as a pillow as they cuddled comfortably on his bed. After some time of comfortable silence, Zack said "I am sorry, Susan. Even if you forgive me, I won't be able to forgive myself for causing you harm."

Susan looked up into his eyes to be confronted with a sincere and apologetic Zack who was wiping away a lone tear that had escaped his eye.

"Shh, you don't have to be sorry. It was not your fault. You did your best. Things could have been much worse. And I am truly grateful that it was you in the driver's seat. Otherwise, god knows we would have been long dead" Susan tried to humor him.

Kissing him on the kips, she conveyed her emotions, making him pull her tighter against his body. They laid comfortably till both of them fell asleep in each other's arms.

Zack woke up next to a sleeping Susan nestled on his left side, giving him plenty of time to appreciate his sleeping beauty. She looked so peaceful, with her mouth slightly open, snoring softly. Zack closed her mouth as she squirmed, making herself more comfortable on his chest. However, the reason he woke up was to go to the restroom as his bladder was almost at the edge of voiding. If he didn't move at that very moment, he would be very embarrassed later on. Extracting himself from Susan's warm embrace, Zack sat up on the bed. Walking the small distance to the bathroom, he locked the door to finish his urgent business. Now that he was feeling a little better, he quickly brushed his teeth with the toiletries that the hospital provided before taking a quick shower. Finishing his routine, he shaved before stepping out of the restroom. Taking extra care of Susan's sleeping form, he turned her head to the other side before slipping inside the covers to snuggle behind her body. Stroking her back, Zack fell asleep.

The next morning was the same routine of nurses coming in to check their vitals but this time, they gave them sly grins and winks before exiting their room. Most probably because they believed that Zack and Susan had s*x last night. While Susan used the bathroom to shower, Zack called his workplace to inform them of his accident. Fortunately for him, he was allowed one week of sick leave each semester. Next, he gave Robbie a call as well on Susan's behalf. Robbie sounded worried and angry at first but calmed down as Zack promised to bring Susan back in one piece by tomorrow.

He decided to inform his family after he was back at his home, so as not to worry them too much. Setting aside his phone, Zack laid back down when Susan walked out of the bathroom in panties and a t-shirt. She wore some shorts before crawling back into his side. They watched Tv for a while, even though he wanted to make love to her but couldn't because of her injury. Instead, they snuggled up and watched a movie as their lunch rolled in. Using this time as an extra free date night, Zack played soft music on the phone and fed Susan fruits as she looked at him with lustful eyes. For her comfort, Zack thought they should refrain from any heavy s****l activity till she had recovered enough. God only knew how difficult it would be for him, especially now that he had decided on her being the one for him.

Quenching his desire, he fed her one bite at a time, before feeding himself. With their lunch over, the doctor came to check upon them.

She looked at Susan first with a stethoscope to her chest, checking her lungs before moving on to her bandages. The nurse removed the bandages to reveal two scars beneath each breast. Looking at her scars, Zack started to feel guilty again. He was truly thankful that Susan had forgiven him but maybe after seeing her scars she might not be too forgiving. Zack watched her eyes, silently pleading her to forgive him when she winked at him. "You might be worried about the scars, but don't worry it will fade away with time. I will prescribe an ointment, that will take care of it completely" said the doctor as she watched their silent conversation.

As the nurse rebandaged Susan's chest, the doctor examined his head by shining a light in his eyes, checking for any injury.

"Everything looks normal for you. You both can be discharged by tomorrow morning. I just need to keep her a little longer but you both are good to go" said the doctor with a huge smile. "Also, I would recommend no s*x for a week, till Susan can breathe more normally", she finished with a smirk.
