Chapter Six

1971 Words
Alyssa I never believed in curses, except the ones I read in fantasy books and the numerous bad lucks that came from the universe. But as I took a step backward, It made me realize that maybe, just maybe I'd been cursed somehow. Cursed to always bump into someone or something and lose my glasses. The rest of my thoughts shriveled up as I slipped on something, my ankle twisting to the right. With a Yelp, I fell to the ground, my butt coming in contact with the cold hard ground. I patted around the ground for my glasses but it was no use. This was a bad time to lose it. With the guys from behind and whoever it was looming just above me, I was basically toast. Why did I have to be cursed with my bad eyesight? Why couldn't I see a pin drop in the distance like my mates could? Why?... I gulped as the sound of a twig breaking reached my ears. It came from in front of me, no doubt and as the looming shadow came closer, I scooted backwards. It went on like that for a while and the more I moved back, the more fear seeoed into my bones through the pavement. I yelped as strong hands curled around my arm, stopping me from going any further. I kicked my feet in the air, hoping I'd land one blow at the guy,but it was next to impossible. Without my glasses, I was basically hitting thin air. "Stay still!" And I did. Not because I was frightened, but because I recognized the voice. Or I thought I did. " What is wrong with you?" The response I planned on giving shriveled on my tongue as someone's palms pressed down on both sides of my cheek. It was a guy, his rough and slightly calloused hands gave it away. Before I could say anything else, something else pressed onto my face and only when I'd closed my eyes and opened them again, did I realize I had my glasses back on. "What …Cameron?" I locked eyes with the man in front of me. He looked bored, his green eyes giving away not one emotion. I drank him in, the curve of his nose, and the way his lips turned into a frown. "What are you doing here?!" "Saving your ass, apparently." He snapped and that was all it took for me to come back to my senses. Before I could react, he was already on his feet, leaving me on my spot on the ground. " Get up." "Couldn't you have helped?" I groaned, standing straight. " I could have hurt myself you know." "You're late." He quipped. " I said eleven o'clock. This is almost midnight." "It's not…." "Why don't you ever listen?" My mouth clamped shut as he cut in. "I asked you to…." "You could have at least asked why I was late!" It was my turn to interrupt him. I had no idea what had gotten into me, but I wasn't going to let him talk me down. Not tonight. Not after everything I'd been through. " I was attacked. Barely. I barely made it out of there just to run into you over here. Didn't you wonder why I bumped into you?" "I don't need to." He scoffed. I could literally smell his arrogance all the way here and it was not pleasant. " You're always bumping into someone. Always bumping into me." "Whatever." I mumbled, hoping Cameron wouldn't notice the tiny stain spreading on my cheeks. In as much as I hated it, I was always bumping into him. At the football field, in the ladies bathroom, over here…. "Hey!" The sound of converses kissing the pavement pulled me back to earth. He was leaving me behind. " You're leaving me behind?" "Incase you forgot." He was still walking. " We're already late and we have somewhere else to be. I have somewhere else to be, I'd rather be anywhere else than here." "Wait up." I jogged towards him immediately. He made no move to slow down though and I took that as an opportunity to really take him in. Black leather pants hugged his long legs, with an equally blank tank giving a full on display of his muscles from behind. "If you don't walk faster." My ears perked up at the sound of his voice. " I swear I'll make a detour to my house and we can forget about all of this." "You don't have to threaten me all the time you know." I was huffing by the time I was next to him. Even at that, I found it hard to match his pace. " I…." "It's not a threat." His voice was low and icy. " I promise you." A shiver ran down my spine at the sound of that. I always wondered how he did that. How he managed to command or have that air of authority around him, but that wasn't I was more curious about. I wanted to know why he hated me. The more I thought about it, the more absurd it was. It just made no sense. Ever since he arrived school He'd always been hostile towards me and I had no idea why. Yeah, he was weird for the first couple of weeks but after he found out I was with Bennett, everything literally went from a zero to hundred in just one minute. I slowed down at the sight of Cameron doing the same. I surveyed my surroundings just to see that we were standing in front of a hotel, one I recognized so well. The luvre. Bennett had promised me a date here and everytime I thought about the surprise he would put together, it made me all giddy. But why did Cameron bring me here? Was tonight the night? Did Bennett somehow enlist Cameron's help in all of this? I stole a look at Cameron, and the stoic look he wore on his face gave nothing away. It was either nothing was happening and there was really no surprise, or he was actually just a really good actor. . "What are we doing here?" I finally asked the question that had been in my mind. " Why are we out here…" "We should have been here thirty minutes ago." He huffed. " Hopefully, they're still at it." That was all I got before he walked into the building. I followed after him immediately, not wanting to lose sight of him. The luvre doubled both as a restaurant and a hotel, which made it all the more fancy and prestigious. People milled about, each person up in their own world and business. Wordlessly, I watched as Cameron crossed the threshold and walked straight to the receptionist. "Good morning, sir" the receptionist chimed, her smile bright. "How may I be of assistance tonight? Do you need a room, or perhaps you have a reservation or…." "Felix Gallardo." Cameron cut her off in his monotone. " What room is he?" "Oh, I'm sorry." The receptionist mumbled. " But it's against our hotel's rules to give out private information about our patrons. If you share any relationship with him, you could.." "Don't make me ask again." Cameron leaned in closer and the sight of something sitting pretty in his palm caught my eyes. Cash. Lots and lots of it. "What is Felix Gallardo's room number?" "Room 318." She gulped as she quietly pocketed the money. My mouth went agape and I couldn't pinpoint it to a particular reason. " It's a suite on the third floor." Having gotten the information he wanted, Cameron spun on his heels and headed to the elevator. "Cameron!" I whisper yelled as I tried to catch up with him, my feet protesting against the pressure I was putting on them. He didn't stop though and for the first time in tonight, I wasn't the least bit surprised. "Cameron! Where are we going?" "Hang around and you'll find out." He quipped, barely throwing me a glance. In no time, he was at the elevator and if the heavens weren't on my side tonight, he would have gotten in without me. Jerk. A sigh slid past my lips the moment the elevator doors slid shut, but my heartbeat only quickened as reality dawned on me. I was alone with Cameron, in an elevator, and we were on our way to a suite in a hotel. Oh no. "Cameron, what are we doing here?" I spun towards him immediately, steadying myself against the slow whirl of the elevator going up. " Where are we going and who the hell is Felix Gallardo?" "You ask a lot of questions you know!" His face was so close he didn't need to shout. All it took was a whisper to tell My he was mad. No, infuriated. " If this is how you bother oh dear Bennett with questions then maybe he does deserve you. Your incessant questions are more than enough punishment to make someone go mad." I parted my lips but no words came out. Tears stung at the back of my eyes, threatening to break through but I held them back. Without so much as a second glance, I trained my eyes on the steel walls of our ride. Hopefully, it would repel the tears for as long as it was necessary. A small ding signalled we were at our destination, and Cameron was out of the elevator before I could even blink. The lobby was quiet, with a series of doors on each side. They led to rooms no doubt, but for some strange reason, the one at the end of the lobby caught Cameron's attention the most. He was in front of the door in no time and only when I glanced at the room number, did I realize we were at the right place. Room 318 Three knocks pulled me back to earth. My gaze widened as I caught sight of Cameron's knuckles drumming loudly on the wooden door. "Cameron, what are you doing?" I asked again. This made no sense. Why we were at a stranger's hotel room in the middle of the night was straight on madnesses. " What are you…." "I swear if you mess this up just when we're so close!" He whispered harshly in my face and I froze, goosebumps creeping up the top of my skin. " I'll make your life miserable. I promise you." No one else had to tell me I didn't have a say in the matter, so I kept mute. Three more knocks was all it took for a voice to finally respond, obviously coming from the other side of the room. "Who is it?" Her voice was tiny but I heard it either way. It was a woman. " Who's there?" "Room service." Cameron quipped, a strange accent running through his lips. " Special request for Felix Gallardo?" "Come in." Cameron's grip grazed the doorknob the moment he got permission. As if asking my permission, we locked eyes for a split second before he pushed the door open and stepped in. I had no idea what I was expecting. To be honest, nothing came to mind. But the moment I locked eyes with the young man sprawled on the hotel bed, I felt my heart drop to my stomach. "Bennett?" I called out, my voice a tiny whisper. It all happened so fast that if I wasn't sure, I'd have concluded I'd imagined it. But the guilt that flashed in Bennett's eyes and the cocky grin that Emily Sinclair wore as she straddled Bennett couldn't be imagined. It was real and I'd just walked right into the worst day of my life. Oh s**t.
