Chapter1

1704 Words
In a hazy, tearful light, I seem to see two versions of myself: One happy and free person who died in the past, One slowly rotting me who is gasping in the future... This summer came earlier than usual. I work in an old building that used to be an abandoned factory office. When the factory closed down, a friend of mine bought it at a low price. Now, as parents' expectations for their children's all-round development increase, my friend smelled a business opportunity and turned the building into a private music school. Since I was relatively idle, I also joined in and taught students how to play the piano. That day, I was teaching students to practice the piano, when suddenly a voice called me: "Hey, Heaslet, someone is looking for you outside." I opened the classroom door and saw a face I didn't recognize. As I walked over, she blushed and lowered her head and said to me: "Hello, I want to talk to you for a few minutes, I don't know if it's convenient or not?" It's just a few minutes, it's not inconvenient. I nodded, and took her to the office, while asking her: "Do you know me? I'm sorry, I don't remember seeing you before." She blushed even more: "I know you are Angus's wife." As soon as she said this, I understood. To say this, although it was absurd and awkward, I had to admit that the "Angus" in her mouth was my husband. We hadn't been married for long, but I had already met several women he dated, but this was the first one who came to my workplace. When we got to the office, I closed the door. Although my colleagues knew that my relationship with my husband was not good, I didn't want to let outsiders see this joke. I asked her to sit down. She was very restrained and kept thanking me: "You are so kind! Thank you! Thank you!" "How did you find me here? By the way, even if it's an acquaintance, not many people know that I work here." "My name is Annie. Actually, I followed you here. Although I know it's very rude, I couldn't help it. I wanted to see what his wife looked like, what she did, and what she did in her spare time." I said "Oh": "I see. But you must be disappointed. I live a very boring life. I really let you down by following me." She probably didn't expect me to have this attitude, so she looked more nervous, biting her lip. I didn't want to beat around the bush, and asked her directly: "You came to me for something, right? Tell me." She took out a metal box from her bag and handed it to me and said: "Could you please give this to him?" "Since it's for him, wouldn't it be better if you gave it to him yourself? Why do you want me to pass it on?" "He refused to see me." As she said this, Annie's big eyes suddenly became misty. The young girl's feelings were full and real, she seemed to feel wrong, and her voice was a little trembling.. "I called him for the first time, and he answered. I said I was going abroad, and wanted to see him, but he said it was unnecessary. I was not reconciled, and called him a few more times, but he didn't want to answer my phone anymore. But what I want to give him is really important, so if it wasn't for the last resort, I wouldn't come here to find you." I saw her about to cry, so I reached out and took it: "It's okay to help you give it to him. You just said you were going abroad, but he didn't want to see you, why?" "We broke up. He told me to forget him and said that meeting again would do me no good, but I can't forget him." As she spoke, the girl's tears couldn't stop. I hate it when people cry in front of me, because I really don't know how to comfort them. She was like this, so I just took out a few tissues and gave them to her, but I didn't know what to say. Actually, to tell the truth, Angus did the right thing by her, forgetting is better than remembering and never getting. Naturally, he couldn't get it, Angus's heart was like a stone in an ice cellar, even if you put a fire, you couldn't make him warm. I asked her: "How old are you?" "Twenty-two." "Twenty-two is still young, and there is a long time in the future. Just listen to me, forget him. You are also beautiful, finding a good boyfriend is not difficult." She stood up, wiping her tears and said: "I came to you for this. Could you please tell him one more thing, I'm flying to Z city tomorrow at three in the afternoon, thank you very much, thank you again." Annie left, and I sat on the sofa without moving, she didn't drink the water I poured, and the heat was still coming out. I saw a drop of water sliding down the glass wall of the cup, like a tear. I looked at the box next to me, but I couldn't resist the curiosity and opened it. The things inside were very trivial, a diary, a pink diamond necklace, a bank card, and a photo of her and Angus at the bottom. Seeing my husband hugging another woman in someone else's box, I felt weird. In the photo, Angus was wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans. Maybe the sun was a bit dazzling, he squinted his eyes slightly, like a lazy cat. Annie next to him had a bright smile, obviously full of happiness, cuddling in his arms, like a perfect couple. She eagerly hoped that he would accept this box, and then open it and see, the motive was obvious - she wanted to use some past memories to make a final plea, and see if the man would be reluctant to let her go. The box was exquisite, and the owner had a delicate heart, but unfortunately, she loved the wrong person, and gave it to the wrong person. But since it was entrusted by others, even if I closed my eyes, I could guess the result, so I took the things back when I went back at night. Angus came back at eleven o'clock, he must have had a party, as soon as he opened the door, a gust of wind came in, and the alcohol was also brought in. He must have drunk a lot. I was watching TV, just looked up at him and continued to watch the screen. Angus walked up to me and asked: "What is this?" He was pointing at the metal box. I said "Oh": "Today a girl named Annie came to me and asked me to give this to you, you take a look. By the way, she's going abroad tomorrow, flying to Z city at three in the afternoon, if you..." "Heaslet!" He suddenly interrupted me, "Have you said enough?" His eyes darkened, as if brewing anger. I was a little confused and continued: "I haven't finished. If you have time, you can go and see her off." Angus suddenly reached out and pinched my chin. I felt pain, dodging to avoid, but his hand was stronger: "If I didn't know you, others would think you were pretending, otherwise how could you be so calm when a woman outside came to your door, and even push your husband out. But I know, you are such a person, because you have no heart. I struggled to leave, but he suddenly pulled me in and pushed me towards the bed and came over to me, the smell of the alcohol making me feel a little bad. I pushed him, but he pushed harder and started kissing my neck. He seemed to be carrying anger and resentment, thinking that my words earlier had upset him. He wanted me to be angry and embarrassed, and I didn't do what he wanted, so that's why he became irritated. Angus' fingers dug into my hair, securing my head so that I had to face him. The man has a naturally handsome face, like a mythical angel, but beneath this false mask hides a dark heart that makes unsuspecting women swoon and squeeze their heads to get closer to him. And I only see cruelty on this face. His voice was cold too, "Do you feel pain too?" I didn't want to speak and tried forcefully to twist my face away from him. The silent defiance apparently angered him again and he treated me more roughly, raising his hand and slapping me. The slap instead sobered me up and I just glared at him with rounded eyes of hatred. "Don't blame me for not reminding you, don't forget how you begged me to marry you in the first place. But then after you got married you were like a dead woman, crying all day as if the world owed you something. Heaslet, if you didn't still have a warmth to you, I really think I married a corpse." I shouted angrily, "I don't need you to remind me that I haven't forgotten that our marriage was a deal, and that you condescended to save my brother Leo, for which I am grateful." "As for what I owe you, I'm working now, and I'll pay you back slowly. "You'd better remember." His words were even more vicious, "Since it was a trade, prostitutes still know how to smile, not to mention you are married to me, how come you are even worse than them instead?" I listened in a trance as he uttered these cruel words, only to feel that my marriage was like a sturdy cage in which I was hastily locked in, tortured and struggling hopelessly. After the boring exercise, I sat up with a great effort. He was already dressed and had lit a cigarette, his face looking slightly unreal in the gulping mist.
