CAMBRI
I wake up with a familiar pain behind my eyes, and I can barely see. I feel blood running from my temple. I raise my hand to touch it, but I hiss when I feel the metal cuffs bite into my skin. My shoulders are aching, and my neck is throbbing. I feel like my head has been slumped over for hours. My vision finally refocuses enough for me to start looking for a way out of this place. I see a small window on the room's far side, and it's dark outside, which confirms my suspicion. I keep scanning the room, and I make out an office with a large wooden desk, a fireplace on the wall I'm facing, and a red area rug that covers most of the floor. I finally make out a door about half the room's length from me. I scour the room again in search of anything that could help me escape. I turn my head sharply as the smell of cedar and musk invades my nose. When I look up, the small desk lamp flickers on. A man is sitting in front of me, reading from a stack of files.
"I'm glad you could finally join us." The man, who I assume, is the alpha spits. Your wolf tells me you're only 17 and not a rogue, but she won't tell me what pack you're from." He spews with anger. "Wolf?" What is he talking about, I ask myself. I can't be hearing him right. I'm not a wolf! The voice is snickering in my head again. "So you think," it says before fading into the background of my mind again. I come back to reality, and he's asking another one of his open-ended questions. "So, I assume you are here to keep an eye on my pack for someone, but who?" He growls. I catch a glimpse of fangs starting to protrude from his gums, and his eyes flicker from black to green. What in the hell was that? The voice in my head is yelling in an annoyed tone again. " I guess you can't take a hint, can you?"
Hours later, he is still asking the same questions. "Who sent you!" He yells, inches away from my face. "I don't know like I've said for the last three hours! I don't even know my name. How do you expect me to know where I'm from?" I hear snarls in my head, and a wolf figure stalks forward in my mind with a look of death on its face. I snap out of it as the back of his hand connects to my face and busts my lip. My mouth instantly fills with blood, and I spit it on his shoes with a bloody smirk. A small woman steps forward, collects a blood sample, and scurries off. "I will find out one way or another who you are, but we may need a little more blood for more testing," he looks at me with a crooked grin and motions with his hand. A tall, well-built older man with dark hair stalks out of the corner of the dimly lit room.
"I'm Beta Andrews." He takes a step closer and exhales a cloud of cigarette smoke into my face, and I gag profusely at the rancid smell. "I can't wait to get better acquainted with you." He says with an evil grin.
He unlocks the cuffs and gets me to my feet before parading me down the hallway like a prize. We pass a few people on the way, and I can hear their laughs, and a low growl escapes me in return. He looks over his shoulder and whispers, enraged, "You're a guest in this house, rogue, and you will treat everyone with respect, or we will beat it into you." We stop a few feet from the room we were just in, and he opens a narrow door before turning me toward him. He puts his foot on my bare stomach and kicks me backward down the staircase. "I hear him laugh as the door shuts, "Welcome to your new home, mutt!"
