CAMBRI
I see a small girl with blonde ringlets running through a field. She laughs and yells, "catch me if you can," to the white and black wolf running behind her. The little girl squeals with excitement as the black wolf launches and playfully tackles her to the ground. The black wolf starts tickling her with her snout and lands a sloppy wet kiss on her cheek. The white wolf jogs up, pushes the other wolf off, and checks the girl over to see if she's hurt. The black wolf lets out a puff of air, and then lays down for a nap. The white wolf looks pleased and starts bouncing around again.
I sit down and roll a few blades of tall grass between my fingers while looking around at the beautiful rolling fields. All of this feels so familiar. I ask Holland if she knows anything about this place, but she is completely silent. I continue to watch them play and let out a small giggle. Their ears perk up, and they look in my direction. Finally, the girl begins to skip over to where I am and approaches with the biggest grin on her face. "My name is Cambri. Will you come play with us," she asks excitedly. "I uhm… I don't think I can," I say with a frown. "Your friends might not like me," I whisper. She laughs, grabs my hand, and begins pulling me toward the group. "Of they will, silly. You're me!"
I spring up off the floor—my name. My name is Cambri. "Holland!" I yell in my head as loud as possible. Holland, wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! I keep yelling until I hear her let out an annoyed huff. "What is so important that you needed to wake me up from my beauty sleep," she says, followed by a yawn. "My name is Cambri," I screech. "How exactly do you know this?" I see her raise an eyebrow and me before she starts licking her paws again. "Uhhh! Do you not pay attention to anything?" Did you see the dream I just had? The little girl. She said that she was me too! You know, just as a kid. Holland begins flipping through the dream in my head. "It's possible," she says and shrugs her shoulders.
I lay on the floor pondering over the dream and about my name until I heard someone coming. The door at the top of the stairs opens. Great, I sigh. Just who I wanted to see, Beta Andrews.
Get up, Mutt! He yells as he trudges down the steps. He then throws a black shirt, a rubber band, and a pair of shorts at me. I pull the shirt over my head, and it swallows me whole. Next, I slip the shorts over my legs and barely get them to button. Finally, I pick up the rubber band to plop my hair on my head. He grabs my wrists and snaps metal bands around them. They make my hands tingle from being so tight. "Those are for if you try to escape. You may be able to run, but you can't hide." I see an evil glint in his when he says the last sentence. He turns around and drags me up the steps by my arm. "It's time for you to earn your keep," he says in a smug tone.
He leads me through a series of rooms and finally into the kitchen. He drops my arm, goes into the pantry, and returns with an older she-wolf named Agnes. She hobbles over and introduces herself as the head omega over all of the cooking. She greets me with a warm smile before showing me to the sink. "I want you to start with dishes, and then we will work up to cooking. You don't look like you know your way around a kitchen, but we will fix that."
She shows me where all the soap and dish sponges are and how to clean all the dishes properly. I then start to scrub the plates one by one, careful not to leave anything on them. Agnes is cooking along with a few other wolves. Holland pipes in, "that one isn't a wolf. She is different." The girl I'm looking at stops stirring the pot and walks over my way with an armload of dishes. "Hi, I'm Katherine, Kate for short. I'm also a witch, not a wolf," she says with a wink. My mom sent me here to become a potential mate for the Alpha's son and strengthen our coven. When I got here, and they figured I wasn't interested, they kicked me off the guest floor and moved me in with the kitchen Omegas. I don't mind, though. I love to cook! I can help teach you!"
After a few hours of washing dishes, I finally finished the last one. Kate comes back and starts asking a bunch of questions about how I got here. I told her everything I knew. She kept asking more questions I couldn't answer, and I got very frustrated. Finally, she told me not to worry. She will try to help me remember, but she will have to read up on how to do it first. "Until then, here are a few cook books to read," she hands them to me as Beta Andrews walks back in. "Time to go to your new home, Mutt," he says before grabbing my arm and dragging me off again.
