One Year Later
I was sitting at the table with Jessi as my hands twirled the little red box around. Jessi looked fabulous this evening, and I was lucky that her parents agreed to watch Caleb for the night. It had been a year since I had moved her and our son into my beach house, and things had been going perfectly. So perfectly, in fact, that I was able to convince Jessi to change Caleb’s last name to mine.
But there was one last name that still needed to be changed.
“Would you like a glass of wine?” the waitress asked.
“Oh, no thanks. I’m sticking with water tonight,” Jessi said.
I furrowed my brow as the waitress took our orders.
I’d never known Jessi to turn down wine. Or any alcoholic drink, in general. She enjoyed at least one glass with her dinn
