One year passed.
Westbridge Hospital changed.
Several administrators resigned.
Project Thursday became the subject of an investigation.
Daniel returned to university.
Travis worked at a different clinic.
And May disappeared.
He didn't search for her.
He kept his promise.
Then one Thursday morning, a letter arrived.
No return address.
Inside was an old photograph.
Travis and May.
Fourteen years ago.
Standing outside Room 214.
On the back were six words:
You saved me once. Let me save you.
Travis stared at the photograph.
A second note fell out.
3:00 PM. Old library.
He almost ignored it.
Almost.
At 2:58, he entered the library.
May was sitting beside the window.
She looked older.
Stronger.
Different.
“Hello, Dr. Hale.”
He smiled.
“You're not my patient anymore.”
“I know.”
“And I'm not your therapist.”
“I know.”
They sat quietly.
“How have you been?”
“Learning.”
“About what?”
“Myself.”
He nodded.
“That sounds difficult.”
“It was.”
She looked at him.
“But I survived.”
Travis smiled.
“I can see that.”
May placed another file on the table.
“Project Thursday isn't finished.”
His smile disappeared.
“What?”
“Someone continued it.”
“Who?”
She opened the file.
One name appeared.
ELIAS VOSS.
Travis stared.
“He's still alive.”
May nodded.
“And he's looking for me.”
Travis closed the file.
“Then we go to the police.”
“I already did.”
“And?”
“They don't have enough evidence.”
She pushed the file toward him.
“That's why I came.”
Travis looked at her.
“You want my help.”
“Yes.”
He sighed.
“Then we'll do this properly.”
May smiled.
“For the first time.”
