Chapter 02

1875 Words
The sun rays penetrating through the slightly opened window made a groan escape Sabrina's mouth before her eyes flew open and she met herself completely naked under the sheet. As a scream threatened to rip out from her throat, she tilted her head to the left to see Kyle peacefully asleep under the sheet and only when Sabrina carefully raised the sheet did she notice he was naked too. “D…did we….oh my…” Sabrina paused, trying to recall what had happened last night. Tonight was her first night with Kyle and after two damn years, she finally gave herself to him just like she had always dreamt of. She giggled He was fierce last night. More than she had expected and as that feeling bred inside of her, Sabrina couldn't help but think that maybe there was hope after all. The loud ringtone from the phone on the side drawer close to Kyle pulled her back to reality, but before she could reach for the phone, Kyle grabbed her wrist, “It's mine, I'll take it.” His grip tightened around her wrist until she nodded her head, “Alright.” She murmured and when he finally let go, she watched him grab his phone before standing on his feet. Carefully, she watched him walk out of the room, shutting the door behind him. This wasn't the first time Kyle was taking a call he had received in front of her somewhere else, but Sabrina didn't put much thought into it He had inherited his grandfather's company two years ago after he married her, and maybe had a lot of work on the ground. Sabrina rose to her feet and headed for the bathroom As the cold water kissed every part of her body under the shower, Sabrina shut her eyes, her imagination trailing back to last night. Every touch, every kiss, every moan felt so real, but his last words to her last night as he thrusted one last time made butterflies blossom inside the pit of her stomach “Y…. You're mine, Sabrina.” He had meant it. At least that was what she thought. When Sabrina returned to the room, her brows arched as she watched Kyle fixing his necktie properly “Are you leaving?” He tilted his head to her and gave a simple nod, “Yes. I have an urgent business trip and it's going to last for two weeks.” “Two weeks?” Silence echoed in his room for thirty seconds before Kyle reached for his phone on the bed and slipped it into his pocket, “Yes. I'll freshen up at the office before heading to the airport and pick up the files I need too. After I return, there's something I need to tell you.” Sabrina nodded, not only hiding her disappointment but also her sadness. “Alright.” She watched him grab his suit jacket and, without a goodbye, walk out of the room too. ~~~ ~ TWO WEEKS LATER~ “You seem excited, Ms. Thompson,” Cheryl murmured, watching Sabrina slice the vegetables as she hummed gracefully with a smile that adorned her face. “I am Cheryl. I really am.” Sabrina responded, peeling up the rest of the veggies, “I can see it, and I'm happy you are. What are we making tonight for Sir Thompson's return Ms?” Sabrina remained silent as she thought carefully and when the idea suddenly came to mind, she smiled and answered, “We'll make my husband's favourite tonight, every one of it.” Almost three hours later, Sabrina stared at the wall clock as she stepped back into the living room. There was less than one hour until Kyle's arrival, and she couldn't afford not to get every single thing ready, especially herself. Maybe tonight, they were going to have another best night. As the thought played in her mind, she let out a small giggle, “Cheryl, dish out the meals.” “Alright, Ms. Thompson.” Sabrina walked away, heading for her room, and when she got in, the sound of her phone ringing made her reach for it on the bed “Mom.” A slight murmur escaped her lips as the phone displayed the caller, but Sabrina couldn't pick up the call. Not because she didn't want to talk to her mother, but because the stigma was still very much alive in her head two years ago. They had blamed her repeatedly for Sarah's condition, and pointed it straight at her face that they wished it were her lying there and not their precious little saint. The words still hurt like a sharp knife cutting through every edge of the places she had tried to bury those words for good. That night, Sabrina had wanted to take her life too, until Kyle came with the proposal of their marriage, and it brought back the light she thought had been shut off. Even though she knew he was only doing it to ensure his rights and position weren't taken away from him, she didn't mind because at that time, Kyle was the only one who could light her entire world. The loud ringtone of the phone still in her grasp pulled Sabrina out of her thoughts, and she immediately blinked to see it was her dad calling this time around. Whatever they had to say, it could wait until tomorrow because absolutely nothing was going to ruin her mood. In a swift move, Sabrina turned her phone off and tossed it back on the bed before heading to the bathroom. One cool but not extremely long shower was all she needed to keep her sanity still in check. Exactly forty minutes later, Sabrina heard the honk of Kyle's car as it drove into the house. In a hurry, she rushed out of her room and headed downstairs, but stood frozen by the last step of the stairs. Her heart raced, lips refusing to snap shut and blood suddenly drained from her face at the sight before her, “S…Sarah?” “Hello, sister.” Slowly, her eyes darted to Kyle, until they finally halted at his fingers intertwined with those of Sarah's. Pain shot through her heart, but Sabrina swallowed it in with a fake smile, “When did you wake up? I had no idea you…” “Six months ago.” Her eyes widened as she stared at Sarah, “What? Six months?” Sabrina yelled as she stared at Kyle in confusion, “I've been recovering and trying my best to walk again after being in a coma for 18 months. Kyle has always been there for me and I can't thank him enough for never leaving my side.” She tried to speak, but the words weren't slipping out of her throat. Instead, the only thing fighting its way out of her throat was a loud sob that Sabrina couldn't afford to let out, and so in a hurry, she turned around and rushed back into the room, slamming the door shut. Unable to take another step, she leaned on the door before falling to her knees as tears rolled down uncontrollably. “Sabrina, open the damn door.” “Go away…” a murmur flew out of her throat finally, “Please go away.” “We really need to talk, Sabrina.” She had never kept Kyle shut all her life or disobeyed him, but for the first time since her heart fell hard for the teenager she met in senior high school, Sabrina felt a little waver in her heart as the pain and betrayal clawed deeper, “I really don't want to see you, Kyle. Please leave me alone.” It was hurting saying those words to him, but it was better not to look into his eyes and have him tell her again--- he chose Sarah, “Sarah would be staying.” Clinging onto her chest, more tears rolled down Sabrina's face as she heard his footsteps until they faded seconds later. Thirty minutes later, Sabrina rose to her feet and slowly opened the door. She headed for the living room but when she got to the stairs, bumped into Sarah, “You really haven't changed, Sabrina. Still clinging on to what was never yours and would never be yours?” “Leave me alone, Sarah,” Sabrina murmured, but Sarah grinned, crossing her arms across her chest, “Even after two years, you never managed to make him yours just like I predicted that night. Kyle loves me, Sabrina, and I feel every bit of it when he makes me scream his name fifteen times every week after I wake up, but too bad you have no idea what that feels like, do you?” Sabrina clenched her fingers and her jaws tightened so much she thought they were going to crack, “How about I go to Kyle right now and tell him what really happened that night before the accident and how you were cuddled in another man's arms all night? I'm really sure he wouldn't mind carrying out an investigation to find out because with what I know, he's quite the inquisitive type.” “You wouldn't dare….” “Sarah…” Sabrina heard Kyle from the entrance of the house, but when she tilted her head towards Sarah, her brows arched seeing the smirk on her face, “Let me show you how much I mean to Kyle and how little you mean to him.” Before Sabrina could utter a word, Sarah grabbed her wrist and with calculated timing, yelled, “Let go of me, Sabrina, please. I'm sorry. I know you hate me, but I still love Kyle so much.” Sabrina still hadn't realized what was going on until she watched Sarah trip with a grin plastered on her face, rolling over the stairs until her body stopped moving. Out of shock, Sabrina remained frozen at the spot until she heard Kyle's voice as he walked right in, “Sarah!” He ran up to her and leaned against the ground. His eyes darkened as he raised his deathly gaze to Sabrina, and for one second, she felt her lungs tighten, squeezing the air out of her, “What the hell did you do to her, Sabrina? Are you trying to get rid of Sarah?” “No. I didn't do anything, Kyle. I swear, I didn't.” “Shut the hell up you conniving bitch.” The word hit like a knife, and Sabrina felt her heart tighten as pain shot through her. “K…y…le.” Her voice cracked as tears burned at the back of her throat, “If anything happens to Sarah, I swear I'll make sure you live the rest of your miserable life paying for it. I won't lose her a second time.” She watched him pick her up in his arms while his eyes bore so much hatred for her. Without a word, he turned around and walked out of the living room, and until he slowly vanished out of her sight, Sabrina didn't let go of the tears clinging desperately onto her lashes.
