“Kyle.” Kyle immediately snapped out of his trance as soon as he heard Sarah's faint voice call his name. Seeing her awake, he leaned closer to her and held her hand, “Are you alright?” Sarah gently nodded her head, groaning while trying to touch the band-aid on her forehead. “I got a doctor to come check you up,” Kyle uttered, “What about Sabrina? Did she hurt herself?” “No, she didn't. You should be more worried about yourself, Sarah. What happened?” Sarah sniffled, her lips drawing into a frown, “I was thanking her for being by your side while I was in a coma and she got mad at me, telling me she had hoped I would die instead, Kyle. I just wanted her to know I was really thankful.” “I'll have a word with Sabrina when I return home. For now, all you have to do is rest and take care of yourself.” Kyle murmured, but as he rose to his feet, Sarah held his hand, forcing him to take a seat back on the stool, “Stay with me tonight, Kyle.” “I have…” “Please. I still have bad dreams about that night, Kyle. When my car tumbled over multiple times, I thought I was never going to see you again as I struggled to breathe. I was really scared Kyle, and now, I really don't want to be alone.” He heaved deeply before nodding his head, and in return, a smile slowly spread across Sarah's lips, “Thank you,” Sarah murmured, but just as he leaned in to tuck her in, his phone rang, making Kyle withdraw from her while taking his phone from his pocket. “I need to take this call, Sarah, I'll be back.” As soon as Kyle stepped out of the room, he answered the call, “Sabrina, what are you doing up late?” “I don't feel so well, Kyle.” He heard her and for a quick second, just a very quick second, his fingers twitched hearing her say those words, “Then ask Cheryl to get you some drugs or call the Doctor. Right now, Sarah needs me and I can't leave her when you were the one who put her in this condition.” “Why won't you believe me? I swear I didn't touch her, ” Kyle heard her voice crack as she uttered, and again, another finger twitched because he could tell she was crying wherever she was, “Because I know how much you hate Sarah, Sabrina. You've always hated the fact that she's the woman I love." “She's my sister, Kyle. Why would I want to harm my sister? “Kyle?” Sarah's voice echoed from inside the room, and for a moment, he took a deep breath in, “I'll call the doctor to come check up on you tonight, Sabrina. Sarah needs me.” Sabrina swallowed hard, silent for ten seconds before speaking, “I'll take care of myself, Kyle. Don't bother.” She ended the call as soon as she was done and tossed the phone on the bed. Suddenly, a call came in again, and thinking it was Kyle, Sabrina immediately rushed to her phone only to be disappointed. She stared at the unknown caller ID for a few seconds before picking up the call, “Hi, Sabrina.” The voice felt familiar but she couldn't grasp it yet, “It's me, Lauren, and before you say anything, I'm back in New York.” Sabrina let out a gasp. Lauren had left New York four years ago after college to pursue her dream, but Sabrina recalled she had stayed behind because of Kyle. She wanted to be close to him. “I really don't know what to say,” Sabrina murmured, “Maybe you will when we see each other. I'll text you the address, let's meet. I really miss you so much, Sabrina.” As the call ended, a text notification soon appeared on her phone, but for a second, her legs didn't move, and she suddenly felt her heart tighten at the thought of seeing her best friend again after four years. ___________ The cab halted in front of a bar, and Sabrina immediately stepped out of it after handing the driver his bill. She had ensured to take a cab instead of letting the car take her because she didn't want Kyle knowing where she was. With a deep breath, she walked into the bar and soon saw Laura sitting at the counter, As Sabrina drew nearer, she couldn't help but believe who she was seeing. Laura wasn't the young, shy, and dependent girl she had known back in college. She had grown into a beautiful young woman and her skin glowed with a healthy luminous warmth as if she had finally discovered how to take care of herself, Spotting Sabrina, Lauren waved and rose to her feet, “You're here.” Sabrina paused for a second, and nodded afterward, “Yes.” “Come on then, let's have a drink.” As the hot vodka rolled down her throat, Sabrina felt the burden in her chest lift slowly and the thought about how her life was miserable was slowly fading under the effect of the alcohol, but she wasn't drunk yet. About thirty minutes later, both girls were done catching up but Sabrina still had that tightness in her chest wanting to let out her pain to Lauren, but still, she couldn't help but feel ashamed about it. Kyle had married her so fast two years ago, but it didn't change the fact that she was just a replacement because Sarah was in a coma and the wedding couldn't be called off. “Is something bothering you?” Lauren muttered, but Sabrina shook her head without realizing the tears that had broken free from her eyes, “I gave up my dream, Lucy, and two years ago, I married Kyle in Sarah's place….” As soon as Sabrina was done telling her story, Lauren let out a scoff, her eyes red with rage, “That f*****g bastard! I need to give him a piece of my mind. He can't treat you like this Sabrina, not when you gave up every damn thing just to get married to him and help him secure his inheritance.” She raged, but seeing tears roll down Sabrina's face, she held her shoulders, “You're strong, Sabrina. You've always been strong since college and that was one of the things I loved most about you. Put yourself first, and do what makes you happy. You're still very young and beautiful, Sabrina, in fact, one of the most beautiful out there and I know there are a thousand men out there who would be willing to place their world at your feet.” Lauren leaned closer and hugged Sabrina tight, but she mumbled with a croaked voice, “I don't know if I can live without him,” Rubbing her back, Lauren continued, “You can't keep letting him toy with your heart anymore. You have to make a choice even if it'll hurt." Sabrina paused for a few seconds, reminding herself how strong she had always been in front of everyone except the one person that she loved the most in the world. Kyle. In that same moment, she finally made a decision, “I need a lawyer,” Arching both brows, Lauren stared at Sabrina, “For what?” Sabrina sucked a deep breath in and quietly let it out before replying, “I'm getting a divorce.”
