Chapter 3 The stalker

1442 Words
Natalie's one day at the police department wasn't so boring. The large screen dedicated to summarizing important cases was turned into a giant computer screen by Patrick. She and Patrick had a lot of fun playing games. Every day Patrick sat alone in front of the computer screen to synthesize and analyze data. Today, a lovely little girl came to play with him, making him extremely happy. In contrast, the rest of the team didn't have that kind of idleness. Matthew and Bradley went to get the criminal's statement. Johnny and Daniel had to finish a final report to submit to Kevin. By noon, everyone was hungry and went down to the cafeteria. The canteen was open 24/7, the food here was delicious and clean, so it's always crowded here. The whole crime investigation team stepped in and immediately attracted the eyes of many colleagues. There was only one reason: they were so handsome. Furthermore, had anyone heard of the rumors about Captain Daniel's girlfriend? Therefore, they were all curious and focused on the beautiful girl walking beside Daniel. Being looked at by so many people, Natalie immediately felt uncomfortable and immediately hid behind Daniel's back. He also sensed the shyness of the little girl, raised his eyes, and cleared his throat. The other colleagues immediately ignored them and simultaneously pulled out their phones to text. The staff at that cafeteria this morning were told a lot of rumors by Johnny, who visited to buy a cup of coffee that morning. Now, when they met Natalie, they couldn't help wondering why in the world there was such a lovely little girl. They immediately filled Natalie's tray with a lot of food. While everyone was getting their food, Bradley quickly got a large table in the corner and waited for everyone to arrive. Natalie just ate the snacks Daniel bought for her. Of course, she was very full now and took the whole bunch of food to Daniel's tray. This scene was so cute through everyone's eyes. Daniel was also startled by this action and turned to look at her. However, when he met Natalie's pure eyes, he felt he had thought too much. By late evening, Daniel's team had completed the case file and submitted it to Kelvin. All of them were happy. Natalie also had to temporarily break up with Patrick. From the moment he stepped out of the scene, Daniel immediately felt that he was being watched. He looked around and saw nothing suspicious, so he scanned the high-rise building not far away. The police's gaze was no joke. Daniel was attracted by a white dot and a figure from a small window. This didn't appear to be a sniper rifle. From his experience, that white dot seemed to be a flash. He and Natalie were being watched. Daniel immediately reached out, wrapped Natalie in his arms, and hid her face in his shoulder, his eyes was still on the apartment block. He wanted to take this opportunity to grab the mysterious stalker. Natalie was suddenly pulled into his strong chest. She was surprised, "What are you doing?" Daniel's hands were still firmly holding the little girl, and he whispered in her ear, "Someone is watching us in the building opposite." Natalie's ears were teased by his hot breath and turned red. In Daniel's eyes, her expression was adorable. His heart fluttered for a moment. He continued to lean down and whisper instructions, “Get the phone from the back of my pants pocket, the password is 0810.” Natalie obeyed, she wrapped her arms around his back and successfully unlocked the door. However, this pose created a perfect couple's hug, making her face red as a tomato, "What should I do next?" Daniel looked at the white dot and assuredly continued to instruct, "Go to the contacts list, find Matthew, turn on the speakerphone, hide the phone in your sleeve, move to hug my face, and hold the phone a little closer to my ear." Saying that, he opened his arms wide and gave her space to do it easily. Even though her whole body was turning red, Natalie obeyed and reached out her hands to press Daniel's cheeks. This position made them look like they were about to kiss. The vanilla scent mixed with the mint flavor around the tip of the nose made her feel even darker. Daniel, on the other hand, remained calm and focused on his work. Matthew grasped the situation and immediately gave instructions, "Patrick, you go to the ABC building opposite the police station parking lot, 5th floor, apartment 5th from the stairs to the left, the main window facing the parking lot.” Daniel heard his team was already in action. At this point, he only had time to look at the little girl in front of him. Her face flushed red, her eyes softened, and her lips pursed as if someone bullied her. He chuckled and pinched her nose, "Good job." Natalie lowered her head silently, this was the first time she had acted so intimately with a man except her brother, “Now, be angry, hit me, and then run back onto the police department, go up the 18th floor, go to Director Kelvin's room and wait for me." Her eyes widened in surprise, "Where are you going?" Daniel turned towards the building and sneered, "Catching "mice"." Natalie stared at his transformative and startled gaze. These were the eyes of a predator. The play went on as planned. She angrily ran to the police department as their plan. Daniel also showed an angry expression and ran in the opposite direction. That was heading towards the other building by shortcut. When Daniel arrived, he saw a mess and the burning smell in the air made him cough. Matthew hugged one shoulder, leaned against the wall, and coughed. Beside them, a woman and a child were crouched down and clutched their heads in panic. Other policemen were walking around the apartment looking for evidence. He frowned and ran up to Matthew and asked what was going on, “Matt. What happened?" Matthew got angry and swore, “That guy has a gun and hostages. When everyone lost attention, he threw a gas bomb and ran away." Daniel was also angry. He's one step late. The ambulance quickly came to pick up Matthew and the two victims. Daniel quickly reported the situation to Director Kelvin, then went to collect all the video footage of the cameras inside and outside the building and sealed the scene. Daniel thought seriously. This case was not that simple. That guy even dared to go to the police station. It seemed he couldn't bring Natalie here anymore. It was no longer safe here. Patrick brought home the videotape for processing and got no results. The camera on the building was not arranged properly, and that guy's escape route was the emergency stairs. There was absolutely no camera there. His face was also covered with a mask and a cap, so they couldn't get much information about his physical features. It could only be seen that he was quite tall and wore a black tracksuit that could be easily found anywhere. From the security camera, Patrick also managed to find information about the car he used to escape, but it was not very useful. This was a stolen car reported stolen last month. After returning from the hospital, Matthew also coordinated the investigation. According to him, that guy seemed to be a bit shorter than him, but his fighting skills were very good. He must have been professionally trained. Moreover, his mask had a transducer so they couldn't hear his real voice. Guns and gas bombs appeared to be common goods that could be easily purchased on the black market, making it difficult to investigate. Daniel scratched his head in annoyance. The culprit was indeed not trivial, his plans were meticulously arranged and his combat skills were outstanding. He looked at the clock and it was already eight o'clock and remembered that Natalie was on the 18th floor. Director Kelvin, before leaving, also warned him to be careful. Daniel nodded and took her home. Natalie looked at his serious face, so she didn't dare to ask much, but in the end, she couldn't help being curious, "Did you catch him?" He shook his head, “No. I was a step behind, but not without gain.” Natalie was worried. Was there really something wrong? The culprit targeted her. Daniel realized she wasn't in a good mood, took her trembling hands, and comforted her, "Natalie, don't worry, I'll protect you."
