CHAPTER THIRTEEN August 31, 2013, 3:00 p.m. Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Conference Room #2 911 E. Sawmill Road Flagstaff, Arizona The Coconino County Sheriff’s conference room reminded me of scores of similar meeting places in federal and state venues all over the country. It had a long, maple-stained wooden table, suitable for gathering a dozen attendees. The chairs were utilitarian and uncomfortable. They’d painted the walls a neutral off-white. Staged photos of deputies, employees, little-league teams, and police equipment covered the walls. The room was too cold for my attire.
