Chapter 4I was up early on Thanksgiving so I could bake the pie and get it out of the oven in time to put the turkey in. Then I set the dining room table for two. Without its leaves it seated six, which put the people who sat at either end some distance from each other. I decided to set a place on each side, so we were facing each other across the width rather than the length of the table. I had inherited Spode and Waterford from my parents, and I decided to use them. They all had to be washed, of course, since I hadn’t used either the china or the crystal since I’d moved back to Stafford. I also discovered I needed to polish the sterling.
