Four months after Xander's visit, a messenger came from Stoneclaw with a formal letter.
It was addressed to me, not to Ryder. That was significant. That meant Xander was treating me as a person with power, not as a woman who had to be negotiated with through her alpha.
The letter was short.
Seraphine, I have been thinking about what you said to Rosita before the council voted. That my daughter matters because she will grow up and become something the world has never seen before. I want to help her do that. I want to send silver for her training. I want to send knowledge from Stoneclaw that might be useful. I want to invest in her future, not because she is my heir, but because she is herself. Do you accept this.
I read it three times.
