The Stoneclaw messenger did not dismount when he arrived.
"I have letters," he said to Garrick. "For the alpha and the lady separately."
Ryder had me come to his study. I read the first letter standing, and I felt the words before I understood them.
*Seraphine, I am bringing the matter of Amara to the council. I am petitioning for full custody based on Stoneclaw bloodright. You have two weeks to respond before I petition formally. —Xander.*
The second letter was from his father. The old alpha.
*You do not know me, but I knew your sister. I should have listened to her. My son believes he wants his daughter. He does not. But he must learn that for himself. I am supporting his petition so he can stand before his council and fail. I apologize for the cost. —Alderman Stone
