"That's enough!" I snapped in exasperation. Dianna had been trying to find me the 'perfect outfit' for the past one hour. She had an issue with every single outfit I owned. "I'm just gonna wear this blue top, I don't care, and if you really have so much problems, I'll wear my grandma's nursing gown to this date. For the love of God, Dianna, we're just gonna eat pizza."
"Listen, Kiara, if you're not wearing heels with that top, this whole outfit is out of question and I don't care if you're gonna eat pizza or ravioli, you are not going on this date with a HOT guy as my friend looking like a hag, you just can't endanger yourself as being fashionably oblivious. Not when you're MY friend." She huffed, folding her arms across her chest.
We eyed each other in annoyance, challenging for one to just give in, "Fine, you can wear wedges, TALL ONES!" she said.
"Ugh. FINE." She went over to my shoe cupboard as I dressed myself. My outfit was a casual royal blue blouse, with some ruffles around my waist, layering each other, dark jeans and a short black jacket. Dianna did some light make up for me, and finished it off with her infamous 'tall' wedges.
Right at eight p.m. on the dot, the doorbell rang, "Damn, he's punctual." Dianna muttered, walking over, to open the door, while I quickly went to grab my bag. "So you guys are just gonna eat pizza or are you guys gonna play kinky games too?" I heard Dianna saying, I flushed in embarrassment and mentally cursed her. "I don't know about that." Adrian replied, with a hint of amusement in his voice.
I walked to the door, "Hey," I greeted. "Do you wanna come in?" I asked, "No..." He drawled, his eyes didn't exactly meet mine, they were checking out other parts, slowly making his way up to my eyes. He smiled, "You look beautiful, blue looks good on you."
I smiled, blushing "Thanks, you look good too." Adrian wore a black button down shirt, with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows and dark blue jeans. His hair was a beautiful mess and his face was well... perfect.
"Shall we go?" He asked, holding out a hand to me, "Yeah, let's go." I replied, smiling at Dianna. She smiled back. "Okay, don't have too much fun." She giggled.
Adrian opened the car door for me and I smiled, I thought that this gentlemanly manner wasn't practiced anymore. "So this is your car?" I asked when he got in, "Yeah." It was a silver Porsche Carrera. "Impressive." I said. "It looks new."I remarked. "I don't really use it very much." He replied.
I observed that Adrian apparently, liked driving fast, to a point where it was kind of scary. "Do you always drive this fast?" I asked.
"Uhh, no I usually drive faster." He said.
"You go faster than this?" I asked, shocked.
"I like the thrill." He grinned boyishly.
Thanks to his driving skills, we arrived at the Pizza Place in about ten minutes. We went to sit down on a booth, opposite each other and scanned through the menu. "What would you like?" He asked, eyes on the menu. "I like pepperoni, what do you like?" I asked. "I like pepperoni too, the six cheese is a close second choice." He replied.
"I know right?" I like six cheese too."
"So what should we order? Both?"
"What? No, I can't eat both."I replied.
"Why not?" He asked.
"I guess we can if we take leftovers." I said.
"Yeah sure, if there is." He said smirking. I raised an eyebrow at him, "I have a large appetite. And I happen to be starving." He said. I smiled "Okay then."
We ordered pepperoni and six cheese in medium size and sat in comfortable silence, taking in our surroundings. "Is your friend staying over tonight?" He asked.
"Yeah we stay over on each other's occasionally. Dianna usually comes over, because my house is closer to our campus." I replied. He nodded, "How old are you?" I asked suddenly curious. "I'm twenty five." He said, "You?"
"I'm twenty two." I replied.
"You said you handle your dad's business, what business is it?" I asked, taking a sip of the coke the waiter left at our table. "It's, uhh... just you know... trading." He said, tensing up. "Okay." I didn't press the subject further.
"So, what's your favorite story in literature?" He asked, taking a sip of his coke. "I have lots of favorites, can't really choose." I replied. "Tell me one book you really love." He said. "I love... Wuthering Heights, it was one of the first literature books I've read." I said.
"Wow, I used to read a lot, when I was younger. Bronte, Austen, Dickens, it was pretty magical." He said, a distant look in his eyes. "Why don't you read anymore?' I asked. "In the world that I live in, there's no time and space for books." He said.
The pizzas arrived, and we ate in comfortable silence, and Adrian true to his words, did finish it all. Pepperoni was finished first, and he was almost done with the six cheese. "How many boys were you with before me?" He asked.
I stared at him to see if there was any judgement in his eyes. "Two.' I replied taking a bite of my slice, trying to be nonchalant. He nodded, "You?"
"There was only one girl that ever meant anything to me and the rest were well not really significant, not to mention the one night stands here and there."
"Do you always take your one night stands to dinners like this?" I asked.
"No, I haven't taken out a girl for ages." He said.
"Did you have a bad break up and that's the reason why you're like 'I can't date'?" I asked.
"I wish." He muttered, so low I could barely hear him.
"Wish what? That you were still with her?" I asked.
"No, I just... you can say it was a bad break up. And I don't stay at one place for long. But I get what you're thinking, I'm not still in love with her." He said, making direct eye contact. One part of me was relieved, but another was still confused. "What do you mean, you don't stay at one place for long?"
"I move around, I told you Kiara, there are things very... complicated." He said. "Are you ever gonna tell me?" I asked.
"I will if this is going in any direction." He said. He reached for my hand. "Kiara, I'm sorry, there are things that I'm not in charge of in my life, my life is not how I choose to live it, it's made for me, bringing you in it could be dangerous, but at the same time I'm drawn to you, it's like I can be normal when I'm with you. I'm obsessing over you." He said, kissing the top of my hand. "You're like an addiction. There's just something about you... That I just can't brush off." He said. I don't think I had ever met a boy who had been THIS honest with me. Adrian wasn't saying all this to butter me up. There was a rare honesty in him, Illusion or not, I was falling for him. He either said what he thought, or he didn't say anything at all. "I just don't know if you're toying with me." I said.
"You're not a toy Kiara, just trust me, if things go bad, we will end this without any bad blood. I won't ever purposely hurt you." He said.
I nodded in understanding, and he leaned over to plant a kiss on my lips, it was sweet and loving, we smiled, pulling away and he asked for the bill. We had a fight over who was gonna pay which involved him telling me to 'shut my crap up' and also involved him taking my wallet and shoving it in his pocket. I glared at him as we walked out the restaurant.
When we got in the car, he returned my wallet, "I don't want you to think I'm a thief, but I asked you to this date so I'm paying. Besides, it's traditional for boys to pay for the girls." He said, and smiled when I rolled my eyes.
"Where are we going now?' I asked, realizing that he wasn't heading towards my house. 'It's a surprise." He said. "Is this the part where I find out you are an evil serial killer, who kills one night stands after having pizza with them?"
He rolled his eyes, "No, your time on Earth is not up." He said, he had an intense look in his eyes, like he was very serious about my death.
