Chapted 15: Be my Girlfriend

1041 Words
Chapter 15 By 6:50 PM, Cameron was already outside Camille’s apartment. Of course he was. Always early. Always prepared. Always… serious. He leaned casually against the wall, hands in his pockets, dressed in slacks and a crisp white long-sleeve polo. Clean. Sharp. Effortless. He checked the time once. 6:52 PM. Then the door opened. And for the first time— Cameron forgot to breathe. Camille stepped out slowly. Her dress fell just above her knees—not too short, not too long—but perfectly balanced, hugging her figure in a way that felt natural, not forced. The soft V-line framed her collarbone and just enough of her neckline to be elegant… and dangerously distracting. Her makeup was light, barely there—just enough to highlight what was already impossible to ignore. Her long black hair flowed down to her waist, soft and smooth, catching the light with every small movement. And her glow— effortless. Real. Cameron stared. Actually stared. “…Wow,” he said under his breath. Camille tilted her head slightly. “What?” He shook his head, almost laughing at himself. “You didn’t tell me you were going to do that.” “Do what?” she asked, pretending not to understand. “Make it hard for me to focus,” he replied. Her lips curved into a small smile. “Good,” she said. Cameron exhaled slowly. I’m in trouble, he thought. And strangely— he didn’t mind. “Ready?” he asked, offering his hand. She took it without hesitation. ⸻ The restaurant was quieter than the places they had been before. Warm lighting. Soft music. A table set just enough apart from others to feel private. Cameron pulled her chair out for her, waiting until she was seated before sitting across from her. For a moment— they just looked at each other. “You clean up well,” Camille said, breaking the silence. Cameron smirked slightly. “I was about to say the same thing.” “You always say that,” she teased. “Because it keeps being true,” he replied. She shook her head lightly, but her smile stayed. They ordered food, and soon a glass of wine sat in front of each of them. Camille lifted hers slightly. “To what?” Cameron paused for a second. Then lifted his glass. “To… doing things right,” he said. Their glasses clinked softly. Camille took a small sip, watching him over the rim of her glass. “So,” she said, leaning back slightly, “this is your ‘proper’ version?” “Much better than last night,” he said. “No dancing?” she teased. “No distractions,” he replied. Her brow lifted. “So I’m the focus?” His gaze didn’t waver. “You’ve been the focus,” he said quietly. Her heart skipped. She looked down at her glass for a second, then back at him. “You’re very intense,” she said. “Only when I mean it,” he replied. A soft silence settled between them again. Not awkward. Just… heavier now. Real. Cameron leaned forward slightly, resting his arms on the table. “Can I tell you something?” he asked. Camille nodded. “I don’t want you partying like that without me again,” he said. Her brows pulled together slightly. “Why?” “Because I didn’t like seeing you like that,” he said honestly. “Not because you did anything wrong—but because I couldn’t protect you from everything in that kind of environment.” She studied him carefully. “I only do thatwhen Im with someone I like,” she said. “That's great,” he admitted. “I want you to know how serious I am about you.” Her breath caught slightly. Cameron continued, voice steady but softer now. “I want all of you for me." Camille’s fingers tightened slightly around her glass. “Hmmm so you like..?” she asked quietly. Cameron held her gaze. “You,” he said simply. No hesitation. No joke. Just truth. “I like you, Camille,” he continued. “Not just the way you look, not just the way you talk… but everything I’ve seen so far.” Her heart started racing again. Faster this time. “I don’t rush things But when you kossed me you dont know how much self control I had to do just to make you stop,” he added. “And I don’t play games. When I choose someone, I’m serious about it.” Camille swallowed slightly. “And you’re choosing me?” she asked. He nodded once. “I am.” A pause. Then— “Be my girlfriend.” The words landed softly. But heavily. Camille looked at him, searching his face. “You’re really serious,” she said. “I am,” he replied. She exhaled slowly, trying to steady herself. “We barely know each other,” she said. “I know enough to want to, And you kissed me first” he answered. Her lips curved slightly. I blushed “I was drunk. Im sorry,” she said. “Dont be sorry I liked it,” he said. She leaned forward slightly now, closing some of the distance between them. Camille smiled. Then tilted her head slightly, studying him one more time. “You know,” she said softly, “you’re kind of dangerous.” “How?” he asked. “You make it very hard to say no.” Cameron’s lips curved slightly. “Then don’t.” A small silence. Then Camille laughed quietly under her breath. And finally— she nodded. “Okay,” she said. Cameron blinked once. “Okay?” “Yes,” she repeated, smiling now. “I’ll be your girlfriend.” For the first time— Cameron looked caught off guard. Just for a second. Then he smiled. Not his usual confident smirk. Something softer. Something real. “Good,” he said quietly. Camille raised her glass again. “To doing things right?” she said. Cameron lifted his glass to meet hers. “To us,” he corrected. And this time— it felt different.
