It’s the only command in my head. It’s the only action engraved in my system.
When Malory, Kyle, Hayden and I enter the room, I’m over the edge with anxiety. Where are the guards? Why is the room so dark? Why is it so crowded? Why is it so loud?
My eyes scan the room.
I don’t see her.
“Split up,” Kyle says. “If one of you finds her, go stand at the top of those stairs there,” he points, “it’s a high enough spot that’ll alert the rest of us to stop looking.”
Malory goes left, Kyle and Hayden go right, and I run straight ahead.
“Olivia?” I call, bending corners of gaming stations, and pushing through groups of youth packed at various places. “Jeez, where the hell are you?”
I push through another group –possibly the fourth. I bump into Hayd
