Chapter 44"They"re coming!"
Nova"s excited cry filled the camp. At the announcement, there was immediate activity throughout the compound as Menakam"s men dashed to their posts to prepare for Kaanig Altair"s impending arrival. Nova climbed down from her lookout boulder and hurried to join Menakam. He was dragging a ragged-looking Casina, still dressed in the filthy nightclothes she had arrived in, from one of the dark caves. The fact that she was miserable and lonely for her life mate had never escaped Menakam"s notice. Secretly it bothered him to know that Casina would never harbor affection for him as she did for the Altair. Perhaps, Menakam concluded, it was for that reason he had treated her so diabolically during her captivity.
