_______________ Zayne's POV :
"You know, Zayne, Most grooms show up for their wedding" Jayden remarked, swirling his whiskey about as his fingers trailed along the thighs of the w***e he had, sitting on his lap.
"Next time, warn them you're skipping your own wedding. Saves the caterer the heartbreak"
" You've got everyone trembling down there and yet, here you are - relaxed and entertaining yourself.
I ignored him and stared intently at the footage Boris had just sent to me. My new bride - at the parting ceremony with her parents.
It looked like an akward goodbye. Her skin looked frail, her eyes pale like she hadn't eaten in days - or had been crying. Could as well be both.
"So this is the girl father wanted me to marry" I murmured to myself
"Leave us" Jayden gestured towards the door as the maiden got up, covered herself and gently shut the door behind her.
"Funny enough, your old man had your whole life planned out even before his death" Jayden laughed, taking a sip of his drink as he walked up to the surveillance camera.
"She looks like an innocent one" He said, taking one more sip of his whiskey.
"She is pretty - even from surveillance you could tell. I wonder how she would look up close. You got lucky... At least your kids will get her looks. Because You, brother? are a lost cause "
We both laughed. He reached out to his pocket, pulling out a cigarette and lit it up as he strutted over to the window.
A sharp vibration in my coat instantly disrupted our conversation. I glanced at the caller ID which displayed "Boris".
"Master Zayne, your bride has arrived" His voice echoed on the other end.
"Take her in through the estate gates. Madame Lou will be there to get her settled in" I ordered and cut the call.
I dropped my cell on the table nearby. My hands reached for my neck tie and I roughly dragged it off, loosening the buttons of my shirt to feel more relaxed.
"Here" Jayden extended a cigarette and I grabbed it, lighting it up as we both took rounds releasing air balls of smoke.
"So how do you plan to make this work?" Jayden asked, his cigarette dangling from his lips as he took another powerful inhale.
I exhaled deeply letting the smoke consume me as I glanced at him.
"You know exactly why I agreed to this marriage in this first place, Jayden. Don't act like you don't"
A grimace escaped my lips as I stared at him, my shoulders slumped back into the chair.
Marriage was never something I was after. My Dad, the Late Richard Caruso, once a Mafia Don who was dangerously feared across Grey city and beyond was the reason why I had agreed to this.
Although! I was known to be the Strongest and wittiest of all his sons - including his biological children, I had never expected that on his deathbed, father would willingly be leaving me the entire Mafia empire to rule in his stead. A move that sent his real sons crazily seeking my death.
The only frenzy he had put me in was that he left it behind - with a condition - that I settle down and have an heir before claiming the position
He claimed it was to ensure his Legacy continued and funny enough, he had already handpicked a bride for me - Jia Colton, the Colton's family only daughter.
The quiet and rarely outside estate princess. I wondered if she would be beneficial to a mafia empire and how. A rabbit in a den of Lions is not such a good idea - if you ask me.
"Yo, chill" Jayden's voice slit through my thoughts as I looked up to meet his gaze.
"I never said I didn't but I mean - when she finally births children for you.... what happens next" He asks
I stood up from the chair, letting my cigarette fall to the floor and I Instantly squished it with my shoe, burying its smoke and dust into the ground.
I inched closer to the door as I paid one more glance at him.
"After having my child, She can stay - or she can leave. Either way, she will serve her purpose."
I shut the door behind me as I made to go meet my newly wed 'Bride'. Atleast grant her the honour of seeing what her husband looked like so she knows what to expect.
I still wondered what father saw in her that made him think she was good for me.
Deep down, I also wanted to see what she looked like up close. For a split second I wondered what her voice sounded like.
I crushed the thought before it grew roots. Getting emotionally attached right now was the last thing I needed. Although that did not mean I was going to let her have all the fun and not tease her in return.
If only she knew what I had planned out for her, she would have taken off even before the vows could be done.
**************
It was already evening. It had indeed been a long ride. The Car had pulled into a large estate - with so many buildings inside. It was literally 3 times the size of Dad's.
Is this - is this my new home? I thought to myself as I took in the beautiful scenery of the structures.
Although...something still felt off. The number of men in black surrounding the estate and the toxic scent I was getting from the atmosphere. I couldn't place my finger on it yet but I could already tell it was not normal.
My intuition was not wrong. My groom wasn't ordinary and neither were his men.
The car came to a halt and they all began alighting, one after the other.
I saw them lining up into a straight file. Like it was a routine they were used to. I was a bit confused about it but it was quite interesting seeing how they moved in sync with each other.
Suddenly they all reached towards their back. After seeing what they had brought out, panic struck me immensely.
Arms! My eyes widened as my jaw dropped at what I had just seen. I pursed my lips into a thin line trying to hold back a muffled scream.
I looked around and the rest also began unloading their arms from their hidden spots. The Car's boot was opened and lots of arms were unloaded. So this whole time - they were armed. Was it to kill me?
I gulped, trying so hard to swallow the scream that was threatening to come out. All the intrusive thoughts I had been having through the ride, began flooding through again.
I had been feeling quite uneasy even before I got into the car... but with this, I doubt i will be getting comfortable with this place anytime soon.
I was trembling badly, anyone could see it. This was my first day here. I hoped intently that I would not jeopardize my first impression with them by being overdramatic or too laid back.
I wasn't used to interacting with people besides at home so this was a totally new experience for me and I seriously didn't want to mess it up.
I crossed my palms tightly as I clutched to my dress, swallowing my fear as I waited for directions on what to do next.
"Lady Caruso" A thick voice called out from behind. It was the same man who had spoken to me in the car.
He approached me with a friendly smile and bowed on getting to where I was.
"Call me Boris, My Lady" He said and raised his head to meet my gaze.
"Don Caruso awaits you" He informed.
A cold breeze washed over me as soon as I heard him mention Don.
My head spiraled into a hot mess as he repeated it again.
"The Don doesn't like to be kept waiting, My Lady" He added.
Don? Wait No! As in Mafia Don - Don? My head instantly went Cold at the thought of it. Dad married me off to a Mafia? Did he know and still went on with it? Did mom know?
Jia, this is a bad dream, I tried consoling myself. It's a bad dream and you will soon wake up from it, I told myself trying to steady my breathing. As I was still wrapping my head around it all.
"Young Madam" a thick feminine voice called out from a distance and I turned back to see who it was.
An old woman with grey hairs already sprouted from her head and was dressed in a maid like uniform was approaching me.
She strutted over to where Boris and I stood and then smiled at me before bowing.
"I'm Madame Lou, my Lady. These are your two personal maids. They will take care of you specifically. Master Zayne has asked us to get you settled in...and prepare you for the bedding ceremony"
Was that his name? Zayne! I actually liked the sound of it, I memorized it sweetly in my head a couple of times before realization struck me hard.
My throat burned as the words flew out.
"My wedding night with a stranger?" I swallowed hard, my voice low with dread.
Was our first meeting going to be for intimacy? Isn't that too rushed? I asked myself. I hadn't even seen him before and was just literally getting to know his name.
To worsen it all, I didn't know the first thing about pleasing a man. Never thought I'd be needing it anytime soon... and tonight - I was expected to share his bed.
