Chapter 5
“Stop overthinking it Bel,” Maeve said as she caught me zoning out again. For some reasons I've been feeling that Jayson had a different motive for what he did at the parking lot. It was obviously not just for the press, because everyone in Los Angeles knows he doesn't and wouldn't do that. However I decided to shrug it off and focus on the cloth shopping Maeve brought me for.
“Yeah I probably should” I responded to Maeve as I picked a pink two piece and went into the dressing room to try it on.
“You shouldn't take that off” Maeve complimented as I came out of the dressing room.
“You should get a pair of sneakers too so you could wear both on your next date,” Maeve said smiling at me as she took off to get the sneakers.
“ Maeve he didn't even accept the suggestion, why are you saying it as though he was the one who made the suggestion?” I asked her when she returned with the sneakers and she just shrugged her shoulders and gave me a weird look. She really does love to get ahead of herself most times.
We were done with our shopping and proceeded to get some ice cream before heading home. We got home and arranged our shopping bags at the side of the room. Maeve has been sleeping over since my first date. I haven't complained though because I guess she is bored of staying alone. Being an orphan has made her really strong but most times when she feels it too much, she comes over. I guess this is one of those times. Maeve has been my muse since I met her, she is the strongest, most confident and rich independent woman I know. Her parents passed away In a car accident when she was 19 and all their assets were confiscated by her uncles, since then she learnt to be independent and now she is very successful and I'm really proud of her.
I got into the bathroom to take a shower and Maeve got in when I was done.
We sat together in my room, in front of the laptop searching for a movie to watch as we licked our ice cream. We finally settled on modern family and watched it till we slept off.
We woke up, did our morning routine and prepared for work as usual. I wore a brown pencil skirt that went below my knee with a black short sleeved blouse and my black pencil heels. I packed my hair into a ponytail and applied mild makeup and picked my brown bag. Maeve wore a black pencil skirt, yellow fancy blouse, black pencil heels and black bag. We exited the house with our cups of coffee in our hands then drove off.
I got to the company and the whispers and stares started again with the press hovering around and taking pictures. Already getting used to it, I proceeded to my office and to my surprise there was a bouquet of roses on my table. I picked it up and there was a note in an envelope placed on it. Opening the envelope I read the message “still to feed the press, Don't forget to eat Miss Anderson”. I took a photo of the letter with the bouquet and sent it to Maeve before squeezing the letter with a sigh.
I walked to the elevator and tapped the last floor as I was informed my dad had summoned me.
I knocked when I got to his office door and entered when I heard I should.
When I got in, he was looking at the next building from his office as the walls were glass. When he noticed my presence, he sat on his seat and instructed me to sit, which I did. This is the first time I am meeting or going to speak with my dad since the day he ordered me to marry Jayson.
“Good job Bella” he said and I looked at him confused. Why is he praising me all of a sudden?
“ I'm proud that you aren't making a fuss about all this and just going with the plan. Have you seen the tabloid today?” He asked and that's when I remembered I haven't really looked at my phone today.
“No I haven't” I replied.
“Just keep up the good work Bella, if you continue this way, no one would suspect the main reason for the marriage. You may leave” he said and with that I got up and exited his office.
I got back to my office, feeling disappointed in myself that I expected something better from him. I sat on my seat and decided to check the tabloids.
“It seems it's actually a love match”
“Could it actually be love?”
“Little Bella unfolding the emotional part of Jayson”
“Red rose is definitely a sign of affection”
Dropping my phone with a sigh, I look at the roses once again before beginning my work for the day.
I was very engrossed in reviewing a document when my phone chimed. Deciding to ignore it as I knew it was a message from Maeve, it chimed again.
I picked up my phone and checked the messages, one was from Maeve and another from Mr Peterson. I immediately tapped on his message and read it
“Looking forward to what you have planned for our last date miss Anderson,”
I re-read the message three times to be sure I read it right, his actions since yesterday have been out of character and right then i was sure he had a different motive to all of it as my eyes moved to the roses again. Ignoring the message as I didn't know what to reply, I continued with what I was working on not wanting to distract myself thinking about Jayson.
