We spent the next few days exploring more of South Africa. While there was still plenty more to see and do in Cape Town itself, I really wanted to get outside the city and see the landscape. Ever since I had read The Hound of the Baskervilles as a little girl, I’d felt like the unpeopled areas of a place sometimes told the truest story. The Hound of the BaskervillesSo once Beattie and Adaire were up for it, Boone booked us all a safari in Kruger National Park. We flew first to Johannesburg, a city I promised myself I’d visit again as soon as possible, and then took a short flight to north of the park, where we stayed in a luxury lodge out in the wilderness.
