CHAPTER 12: GETTING A WEAPON.

[DAILY QUEST UPDATED] Roshan was greeted by the message the moment he opened his eyes. “Darn system…” he thought as he read through it. [The system is only trying to help the user] “Did this thing just reply to me?” Roshan jumped up from the bed as he heard that. But no answer came this time. Instead. [Daily Quest: Walk 5000 steps] [Steps: [0/5000]] “Hmmm. At least it sounds easy enough.” Roshan went down on his hands and began his physical training. Even though he had a system that could easily, scratch that, that could give him strength, he knew better than to rely too much on it. The system never really gave him anything easily. After two hours of exercise, he jumped into the bathroom and took a shower before heading out. “Master Fyi, good morning to you. I will be back before lunch,” he said and dashed out before the old man could respond. Fyi looked at the back of the boy as he disappeared before grumbling. “That is what you said yesterday.” He looked away and continued drinking his tea. Roshan walked into the market. He still had the Level 3 Beast Gem from the Gotou beast, and he planned to sell it. Looking around, he saw different shops. Some were filled with beast weapons, some with jewelry, others contained technological equipment like the training bot he fought with, while a few sold food and snacks. What he needed right now was only a few minutes away. He walked toward a shop where different Beast Gems were displayed. He examined each one carefully, feeling the intense energy coming from them. Before he could even speak. “Ohhhh, a handsome customer. Welcome. What do you want to buy? Tell me what you desire. I am sure I have something to suit your taste and requirements. Or perhaps you want to give one to a young maiden. She must be very beautiful if you have decided to get one for her, and I have just the right one… hohoho.” The man chuckled when he saw Roshan’s face turn red, thinking he was blushing. Little did he know that Roshan was fuming with anger. “I just arrived, and he did not even let me speak before saying nonsense,” he thought, scrunching his face before calming down. “No sir, I do not want to buy anything. I just want to discuss something with you,” Roshan said as he noticed the man searching fervently for something. “You do not want to buy anything? Then leave. I do not like wasting my time,” the man snapped, his attitude changing instantly. “But I wanted to give you something.” Roshan immediately brought out the gem and placed it in front of the man. The green gem glowed as it caught the light. “Ohoho… what do we have here.” The shopkeeper ignored Roshan and brought out his tools, inspecting the gem closely. “A Level 3 Gem. I see. How much do you want for it?” the man asked as he eyed Roshan. The weak child must have stolen it. There was no way he could kill a Level 3 beast. “A thousand credits,” Roshan said without blinking. He knew the gem’s value and would not let himself be cheated. “A thousand credits? Boy, do not play with me.” The man glanced at Roshan, then back at the gem. “This thing is probably worth five hundred credits,” he said, studying Roshan again. “If you do not want it, I can sell it to someone else for a much better price.” Roshan took the gem back and turned to leave when the man suddenly called out. “Wait. I will give you eight hundred, and that is all I have.” The man’s eyes returned to the gem. In a small town like this, gems were always in high demand. Very few had the courage to hunt beasts. That was why he believed the boy had stolen it. “Alright.” Roshan grinned and brought out his card. The man produced his own card, blue in color, completely different from Roshan’s white card. The white card represented accounts holding between zero and one thousand credits. As the amount increased, the card color changed. The next level was green, representing one thousand to five thousand credits, followed by the blue card, which held between five thousand and fifteen thousand credits. In this era, earning credits was difficult. Many things had been destroyed by the Deagis. Still, humans worked hard to restore some level of normalcy. They built advanced technological equipment to aid travel, communication, education, and healthcare. As a result, global warming intensified, making Earth unsuitable for humans. This forced them to explore the solar system for habitable planets, and the effort succeeded. They found more than a handful of planets. Humans settled on some, while others remained on Earth to train for the Deagis’ return. This training relied on evolved animals that had become vicious due to mutation and radiation. These beasts were used as training targets in preparation for the coming war. For now, Roshan was still on Earth. The man pressed a few buttons on his card and swiped it over Roshan’s. A series of notifications sounded. Roshan’s card lit up, confirming the transaction. He was now eight hundred credits richer. “It was a pleasure doing business with you, sir,” Roshan said with a smile as he walked away. “Pleasure, my foot,” the man grumbled. He had lost three hundred credits beyond his usual bargain. “That boy cheated me,” he muttered as he watched Roshan disappear into the crowd. The smile never left Roshan’s lips as he moved through the market. He knew the gem was worth five hundred credits, but why sell it for that when he could make a profit. “If I had not used that tactic, I would have lost three hundred credits.” Now it was time to buy a new weapon. He entered a weapons shop. “Is anyone here? I would like to buy a weapon,” he called out. No response came. He decided to look around on his own. He would not buy a sword this time. His sword skills were good, but they did not display his full strength. He needed something that could fully exert his power. Using bare hands was an option, but they would get injured easily. “Wait a minute. Why can I not use my hands? I could get a gauntlet. Yes. Why did I not think of this before?” His eyes sparkled with excitement. [System agrees with host] “What…” Roshan stood frozen. Did the system agree with him getting a gauntlet, or with him calling himself foolish. No reply came. “So you can talk back.” [The system will be able to do a lot of things once upgraded] Roshan wondered how he could upgrade it, but the system did not respond. He moved to the section where gauntlets were displayed. Different gauntlets caught his attention, especially their prices. They were extremely expensive. He could not afford any with a white card. Then his eyes landed on a gold colored gauntlet sitting alone in the corner. “Crystal Iris.” His eyes glowed faintly. [Crystal Iris activated] [Level 20 Beast Gauntlet] [Ability: None] [Strength +20] [Defence +25] [Speed +15] It was disappointing that it had no attribute, but that might have been the reason for its low price. Six hundred credits. It was affordable, and better than nothing. “Master Fyi would not mind if I take this, right?” Roshan muttered as he picked up the gauntlet pieces and put them on. They were too big at first, but slowly shrank to fit his hands perfectly. “They look great,” he said, admiring them. “Who is there?” A hoarse voice echoed, snapping him back to reality. “Hello. I would like to purchase this,” Roshan said as he approached the short man and raised his hands. “They are not for sale,” the man replied and turned away. “What? Then why put them out?” Roshan asked, staring at the man’s back. “How is he so fast,” Roshan thought as he tried to follow him. “I put them there, but I am not selling them to you,” the man said, turning with a look of disgust. “Why?” Roshan did not understand. “You are weak. I do not give my creations to weaklings,” the man scoffed. “You say I am weak just by looking at me? What makes you think I am weak?” Roshan asked, his brows furrowing. “You look weak. Those skinny arms say it all. There is no denying it. You are weak,” the man shrugged. “I am not weak, and I want to buy these gauntlets.” Roshan extended his card, forcing himself to ignore the insult. He knew he had once been weak, but being told so to his face still stung. He did not want trouble. He only wanted a weapon. “You say you are not weak. Defeat my son in battle, and the weapon will be yours free of charge.” The man spoke calmly, a smile visible at the corner of his face. “Huh?” ---
