The sound of Andy’s heavy breathing filled the car, making me feel worse with every second passing.
We were in the back seat now, his small body curled and his face flushed and damp with sweat.
I placed my hand over his forehead and worriedly looked at Sarah.
“His fever’s getting worse, Sarah,” I said, my voice trembling. “We need to get him to the hospital now.”
“I know, I know,” she muttered, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
To add to that, the beautiful sun that graced our day was now nowhere in sight. Instead, the rain came down in sheets, and Sarah’s windshield wipers were struggling to keep up.
“Please drive safely, though,” I quickly added.
“No worries,” Sarah said, still focused. Her voice trembled, too, so I knew she was also worried.
