The fight was vicious, a primal clash of fangs and fury, but it was over in minutes. Kane moved like a shadow of death through the melee, his massive black wolf form a blur of deadly precision. The attacking wolves were no match for him; compared to his raw power, they looked like overgrown pups.
Sarah stood frozen, her phone steady in her hands despite the frantic pounding of her heart. She couldn't look away. The brutality should have been horrifying, but there was something mesmerizing about the way Kane fought. He wasn’t just a man; he was a force of nature, his every movement calculated and lethal.
One by one, the attackers fell. The survivors scrambled to retreat, dragging their unconscious packmates with them. Blood stained the stone floor, dark and gleaming in the flickering bunker lights.
Only Victoria remained. She shifted back into her human form, her pale skin smeared with blood. One hand clutched her side, trying to staunch the flow of crimson from a deep gash. Even injured, she held herself with defiance.
"This isn’t over," she spat, her voice sharp with venom.
Kane, still trembling from his transformation, shifted back into his human form. The process was brutal, his bones cracking and reshaping as fur melted into skin. What remained of his tuxedo pants hung in tatters, leaving his chest bare, streaked with blood and sweat. His golden eyes burned with intensity as he stepped closer to Victoria, towering over her.
"It is over," he said, his voice a low, menacing growl. "You lost the moment you threatened what’s mine."
Sarah’s breath caught at the raw possession in his words. Her chest tightened, a mixture of fear and exhilaration coursing through her.
Victoria’s sharp gaze shifted to Sarah, her lips curling into a bitter smile. "No," she said, laughter bubbling up despite the pain in her side. "You’ve got to be kidding me." She let out a humorless chuckle. "The great Alexander Kane, actually falling for a human? Oh, this is rich."
"Get out." Kane’s voice dropped further, his tone vibrating with barely restrained fury.
Victoria staggered to her feet, her movements slow and deliberate. "And what if I don’t? You’ll kill me like the rest? Go ahead, Kane. The Council will love to hear about this. A wolf of your status, tangled up with a human journalist of all things..."
"Out!" The word exploded from him, more roar than speech.
Victoria smirked, her eyes flicking between Kane and Sarah. "This is going to come back to bite you," she said, her voice laced with mockery. "And I’ll be there to watch when it does."
With that, she turned and limped out of the bunker, leaving behind a trail of blood.
The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by Kane’s ragged breathing. His body trembled with adrenaline and moon fever, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
"You should be terrified right now," he said roughly, his golden eyes locking onto Sarah’s.
Sarah lowered her phone, her heart still pounding, but not with fear. "Should I be?"
Kane let out a low growl. "I just tore through six werewolves like they were nothing. I’m covered in blood. The moon’s driving me insane." He took a step toward her, his movements tense, like he was holding himself back. "And all I can think about is kissing you again."
"Then why don’t you?" Sarah’s voice was calm, steady, but her pulse raced as she met his gaze.
Kane groaned, his hands flexing like he was fighting every instinct in his body. "Because if I start, I won’t be able to stop."
Sarah stepped closer, her fingers brushing a smear of blood from his jaw. "Maybe I don’t want you to stop."
He caught her wrist, his grip firm but gentle despite the tremors coursing through him. His breath was hot against her skin as he spoke. "Sarah... there are things you need to know. About what I am, about what this means. The danger—"
"I’m a journalist, remember?" she interrupted, her voice soft but unyielding. She moved closer, the heat radiating off his body wrapping around her like a cloak. "I love danger."
Kane’s control snapped. He pulled her against him, his lips crashing into hers with a ferocity that stole her breath. The kiss was raw, wild, and unrelenting, all beast and no man. Sarah responded in kind, her fingers tangling in his hair as he backed her against the wall.
"Mine," he growled against her lips, the word possessive and primal.
"Prove it," she challenged, her voice daring.
He pulled back just enough to meet her gaze, his eyes blazing with gold light. "No going back after this," he warned. "You’ll be part of my world. The danger, the secrets..."
"I want the truth," Sarah said, her voice steady and sure. "All of it. No more games."
Kane’s laugh was dark, almost self-deprecating. "The truth?" he repeated, his voice low. "The truth is I’ve wanted you since the moment I caught your scent. The truth is I’m a monster who’s killed to protect his secrets." His hand cupped her face, his thumb brushing her cheek. "The truth is I should let you go, but I can’t."
"Then don’t," Sarah whispered, her eyes unwavering.
Outside, the full moon reached its peak, its light seeping into the bunker through faint cracks in the ceiling. Kane’s skin burned against hers, his body trembling with the force of his suppressed transformation. He kissed her again, slower this time but no less intense, his lips trailing down her throat.
"My beautiful, fearless journalist," he murmured, his voice rough against her skin. "What am I going to do with you?"
Sarah smiled, pulling him closer. "I have a few ideas."
The bunker lights flickered, casting eerie shadows that twisted and danced like wolves on the walls. Above ground, the distant strains of the gala’s music drifted through the night, oblivious to the world of chaos and danger hidden beneath.
"Tell me a story, Mr. Kane," Sarah whispered, her voice teasing.
Kane’s answering smile revealed sharp fangs. "Once upon a time," he began, his tone mockingly serious, "there was a wolf who fell for Little Red Riding Hood..."
"And did they live happily ever after?" Sarah asked, raising an eyebrow.
Kane’s eyes gleamed, a wicked glint in their golden depths. "That depends on how the next chapter goes..."
