Prisoner

“What do you mean by my head? Like she wants to kill me because of you.” “Exactly, Muna.” My first instinct was to protect my belly. I placed both hands over it as fear washed through me. I felt terrible that I was putting my innocent child through this. My child hadn't asked for any of this. He hadn't asked to be born into a situation where his father already had another woman, another mate, and an entire pack that might never accept him. “Killian, I know it’s not the right time to ask you this, but why exactly did you lie to me? Didn’t it occur to you to tell me that you were already mated and married to another?” My voice trembled as I spoke, but I couldn't stop the questions that had been building inside me. “But you rather slowly lured me into your embrace, and now I’m pregnant for another woman’s husband.” I swallowed hard. “Just where exactly do I stand with you?” There was silence. “And what is the future of my son? Because from the look of things, she won’t allow our child his rightful place. And I don’t think the pack or your council of elders would approve of you marrying a blind and useless wolf, much more making me their Luna. That would never happen, now that I’m thinking clearly.” The words hurt me even as I said them. I hated calling myself useless, but wasn't that exactly how everyone had always seen me? A blind wolf. A burden. Someone who needed to be protected. And now I had foolishly walked straight into the arms of the Alpha of a powerful pack, only to discover that he already belonged to someone else. “Just how could I endanger my life and that of my child for a married man?” As I spoke, I saw Killian’s expression. He seemed strange. For a moment, he said nothing, and the silence made my heart beat even faster. “Look, Muna, I will not allow you to leave with my son, alright? I told you I will handle Nadia, so please let me handle her. Neither you nor my child is leaving.” I stared in his direction, unable to believe what I had just heard. At the way he said it, I felt like staying was no longer a choice. It was more like a no-way-out situation. But I wanted to believe he wouldn’t hold me against my own will. I had come here by my own choice. I had trusted him enough to come to him, believing that whatever happened between us, he would never intentionally hurt me. I wanted to believe that the man I had fallen for was still there. So I tried again. “Look, Killian, I think it’s better if we both go our separate ways for now. Then, when you are done dealing with this whole Nadia situation, myself and my son would return to you. This way, we would both be spared from this dangerous situation.” I was trying to reason with him. I wasn't asking him to abandon his child. I wasn't asking him to stop loving me. I was simply asking for time. Time to protect myself. Time to protect my baby. Time for him to deal with the mess he had created before dragging me deeper into it. “I said no, Muna. You and my son are not going anywhere, so please get that thought out of your head, alright?” My heart sank. “You can’t keep me here against my will. I hope you know that, right?” I tried to keep my voice firm, even though fear was beginning to creep into my heart. “I came by myself, on my own free will, and I will leave the same way.” I pulled away from him and proceeded towards the entrance when he suddenly held me forcefully by the hand and pulled me back into the room. My heart jumped. “Killian!” He placed me on the bed and stroked my face as tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn't understand him anymore. The same man who had made me feel safe was now the reason I felt trapped. “Look, Muna, I’m not the bad guy here. You just can’t expect me to allow you and my son to leave my protection. The situation with Nadia is only for business, and we are not real mates. It’s only in name.” I shook my head slightly. If it was only in name, then why did it have to put my life in danger? Why was I the one paying the price for an arrangement I had never agreed to? “So if I have to lock you up here, I will do it. I don’t want to, so please don’t make me, okay?” I froze. Lock me up? He had actually said it. My lips parted, but no words came out. I had expected him to argue with me. I had expected him to plead with me. I had even expected him to become angry. But I never expected him to threaten to lock me away. He gently placed a soft kiss on my head before I heard his retreating footsteps and the turning of the key. The sound of the lock echoed through my mind. Click. My heart shattered. What have I done to myself? He can't just have me locked up like some prisoner. I sat there for a moment, completely stunned. I could hear my own breathing. I could hear my heartbeat pounding inside my chest. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. I had come here because I believed being with Killian would make me safe. Instead, I was now trapped inside his room. I scrambled for my cane and went towards the door, banging and crying to be let free. “Killian!” I hit the door again. “Killian, open this door!” My voice cracked as tears streamed down my face. “Please!” I kept banging until my hands began to hurt. Only then did a voice reply from the other side. “Alpha gave orders that you are to remain inside until otherwise.” I clutched my heart in pain. “Please, I need to leave.” There was no response. I pressed my forehead against the door, feeling completely helpless. For the first time since coming here, I truly understood what Killian had done. He hadn't just asked me to stay. He had taken away my choice. And that realization frightened me more than Nadia ever could. And in that moment, I knew that his arrival into my life wasn’t a blessing but a curse, one I must put an end to. I slowly stepped away from the door, wiping my tears with trembling hands. I had cried enough. Crying never gets me anywhere. Only action does. If Killian was determined to keep me here, then I needed to find a way to make him let me go. And suddenly, I remembered the mate bond. The bond that had connected us from the beginning. The bond that had made it almost impossible for me to walk away from him. If I severed it, maybe everything would finally end. Maybe he would no longer have a reason to keep me. Maybe I could finally take my son and leave this place behind. The thought alone made my heart ache. I didn't want to lose him. Despite everything, a part of me still loved Killian. That was what made this decision so painful. But what choice did I have? I couldn't allow my child to grow up surrounded by danger. I couldn't wait for Nadia to come after me. And I couldn't remain locked inside a room simply because Killian had decided that I belonged to him. I took a deep breath and wiped the last of my tears. I got up and gripped my cane tightly. Crying never gets me anywhere; only action does. So I decided that the moment he gets back, I will sever my mate bond with him completely. This time, I wouldn't beg him to let me go. I wouldn't ask him for permission. I would choose myself. I would choose my child. And no matter how much it broke my heart, I would end whatever existed between Killian and me. This way, he would have no reason to keep me around.
