Chapter 3

I hear a knock at the door, waking me out of my sleep "Kai, your late for class " I roll my eyes under the duvet covering my body. I don't want to face Noah, not right now, not after what I said to him last night. After I came in last night, my mom heard me crying and came to check in on me; I never told them what happened though "I don't want to go not right now please " my dad sits on my bed and pulls the cover off my face.

"What happened child? your mother was worried sick last night " I sat up on the bed and took a deep breath. "I know who - " my father's phone rings. My father answers the phone and looks at me in shock. I already know what it is about. I cannot avoid Noah too long, or he will draw me out, and it looks like he has gone above my head, my mother.

My father hangs up the phone " Get dressed and jump us to your mother's office " my father gave me a faint smile with that, he leaves. I take the pillow from beside me, and bury my face in it and scream.

Jumping with my father to my mother's office, I'm not prepared for what's about to happen in that room. I look to see my mother, her face full of concern and disappointment. "Kairo care to explain why you came home last night, and why you didn't make it to class this morning? " I sit in the chair in front of her desk. At this point, I have no choice but to answer honestly.

"Running away from a problem, " my mother stops writing and puts her pen down, and sits back in her chair. "A problem or a person? " I throw my head back. "It's both, the problem is within in the person, but the person is still an issue as well " I take a deep breath and sit my head up, my eyes connecting to my mother's. "The problem is Noah Latraine is my mate " I look down. "Darling where is my money? " I look up to see my mother looking at my father with her hand out. My father reaches into his pocket to take out his wallet.

I look between my mother and my father, not believing what I'm hearing and seeing. "EXCUSE ME ?! you placed a bet on me? " my voice came out more upset than I thought it would be. My dad looks at me and gives me 200 dollars and suddenly I’m not upset anymore, then looks at my mother "you were too eager to get that out huh? that's why you get 800" my mom took her money while sticking her tongue out at dad, after years of being together they are still in love with each other, and you can tell.

"the bet wasn't on you it was who it was we didn't know if Noah was coming back this year until his father called and said he was staying for the rest of high school and college so 4 more years maybe but I always had a feeling it would be Noah so I made a bet with your father "

I shrug my shoulders and lower my head "I spent so much time ignoring how much he hurt me ignoring how I used to blame myself instead of him that our relationship well friendship didn't work-" my father cleared his throat cutting me off "Kai what's the unspoken rule that wolfs have ?" I look at my father

"No relationships before finding your mate having one will cause you to have attachments or cause a wolf to be rejected and or hurt "

"Exactly Noah realizing who he is and the position he holds what if his mate was somebody else instead of you and you got as close as you too did you guys almost had an actual relationship you would've got seriously hurt because he has a duty and he would've chosen his mate over you "

My dad has a point I never stopped to look at it that way "the only thing he did wrong was he didn't stop it soon enough think about that next time you see him which will be in your new room your brothers moved most of your stuff to the mate hall "

I look at my mom shockingly. "Noah came by earlier and told me everything I just needed you for confirmation they have been moving some stuff from your room all morning you're not the only one who's missing class and Zander and Thalia– "

"Zander and who now? " My mother looks at me with confusion. "Wait, you don't know?" I look at my father. I stand up from my chair and look back at my mother. "What's going on ?" my mother looks at my father; I couldn't believe the words coming out of her mouth.

Walking through the hallway where my room was, I stop and see all my brothers, including Noah; Zander is coming out of my room. I focus my eyes on him and jump behind him to kick him against the wall. He moans in pain. It didn't hurt him; I made sure it didn't hurt that much.

"What the hell Kairo?" Noah yells and grabs my arm. I turn to him, he quickly lets go of my arm. I turn to Zander. "Kai your eyes are iced over," my brother said with fear in his voice. He should be scared; I walk closer to Zander, backing him up against the wall again. "Is there something you want to tell me Zander Malakai Rose? " He starts to move away from me with his back away from the wall so he wouldn't be cornered.

"You wasn't here last night I came to your room to talk to you but you were gone so next person I went to was mom " I suddenly felt this wave of calmness rush me. I turn to look at Noah, his eyes piercing into mine. He is calling out to me as much as I want to go to him; I can't let myself give into him. "You don't ever get to do that to me mate or not" I turn around and walk away.

"Kairo,"

Zander calls out to me, but I don't want to talk. All I want to do is go far away from here. Tears start rolling down my face. I wipe my tears and jump to find Thalia.
