CHAPTER 36 - SIBLING BOND

-David!

I screamed at him and he lowered his head.

    -Let’s speak about that when you arrive home. David let's go.

I started walking faster. When we were far from all the hospital commotion I stopped and looked at David.

    -What was that?

He looked down.

    -Since when did you treat Lucas like that?

He kept looking down.

    -David...

    -I didn’t do anything wrong.

    -Your words were rude…

    -He is a human, I don’t see the rudeness in it.

    -Nothing he can understand? He…

    -He couldn’t possibly understand the strength we use to fight… I don’t want him to think I was weak and I got injured because of that… Because I’m definitely not in his range of week. I could kill him in a blink of an eye.

Zeus let a low growl, but David heard it.

    -Why are you siding with the humans?

    -What?

    -You are defending Lucas a lot… since forever… I get the point of Maria and Eva. They are part of the pack… but him?

    -He is part of the kingdom…

    -But not the pack!

    -It's the same…

    -It’s not the same! We are royalty… he is a warrior? Less than that, what can a human do against a normal wolf… NOTHING.

    -You are not royalty! You are part of the royal pack but you are not…

    -Yes we are… Your mother is my aunt and…

    -By word…

As I said it, he looked shocked… Confused? “Wait… did he don't know we weren’t really related?” “I don’t know… but by his reaction, he didn’t and he is just hearing about this… Fang is also asking me… You speak, you explain.” 

    -What do you mean about that?

    -It was nothing David, we are family…

    -Yes because we are related by blood.

Not quite right… but I really don’t want to deal with this drama, right now.

    -David right now we are close to Sam, the wolf we saw… I saw it when Sam got captured.

    -So you think Sam is close by?

    -Yes.

    -Can you try to mindlink him?

“Zeus?” “I can’t reach Finn… something is off.” I understood what he meant… Since we lost Sam I have felt that strange feeling while trying to reach him.

    -No I can’t.

    -Then what if they don’t have him here?

    -Sam is strong… If I’m right, the wolf I saw today it’s their Alpha… He has to be close to my brother, to keep an eye on him.

    -Why?

    -Sam and Finn are strong… stronger than many of the wolves we fight, so I assume the Alpha is the only one near his level.

    -If Sam is so strong why hasn't he escaped yet?

    -Well they could have him on something… preventing him from using his strength.

    -Like the thing, Maria injected you and Dan? 

    -Yes, but for wolves.

    -That makes sense… I saw Samuel training and he was strong...

    -He is strong…

I corrected him just as he spoke… The idea of Sam not being around anymore wasn’t an option. He is here, alive,  I am going to find him and then bring him home to Mom and where he belongs. There’s no other way.

    -Let’s go home. I am feeling sticky with all the dry blood.

“Gabe to our right!” I turned around and clearly heard a roar. 

    -You go back home!

I started running towards the sound. I was in the middle of the city. How was it possible… It wasn’t a wolf… Could it be another cat? I had never heard something like that before. Suddenly the roar stopped and I wasn’t sure where it was coming from. “Zeus, can you hear something? Or smell something?” “I’m trying, but I can’t hear anything and the scent of smoke it’s everywhere. I can't track anything!” His voice was desperate. I could feel him pacing on my head. I was getting affected by Zeus’ feelings… I tried to keep my composure but I was starting to feel agitated. I kept walking around the place, looking for something… sniffing the air to see if something was different… But I was just losing hope I couldn’t detect anything that could lead me to a clue. Then I noticed the fire trucks they were leaving. “Let’s go and check there!” Zeus was getting desperate. I walked and there were still officers and limitations but  I kept going… Then I saw it. The coffee shop was gone… well it was still there but it was burnt out and the left building also seemed really damaged.

    -Sorry, but what happened here?

    -Don’t you see? It caught on fire.

    -But why?

    -I don’t know… We will have to wait until the authorities find the cause.

I wanted to get closer, but police officers were all around. I saw some looking towards me. “Let’s leave Gabe... “ All the eyes on us were making Zeus skittish… and it was a risk I wasn’t willing to take. I started walking out of the street and away from the coffee shop.  I kept walking until I arrived at our building. 

    -Gabriel is that you?

I turned and saw Eva with some bags full of groceries.

    -Let me help you.

    -Where have you been? You are all sweaty… Is that blood on your shirt? Are you alright?

    -Yes I’m alright… I just walked around the city.

    -For how long? five hours?

    -I’m not sure.

    -Moon Goddess Gabriel I was joking! How long have you been out there? Didn’t you hear there was a fire and…

As I opened the door, Daniel was taking David’s bandages and the stitches in his face looked red and… The scene was just like the ones on the scary movies on TV.

    -For the sake of the Moon! What happened here!

As she screamed, she let go of some of the groceries bags.

    -NO!

David came running and started picking the ice cream cans.

    -Quick Daniel!

David started throwing the ice cream cans to Daniel who caught them and put them inside the freezer.

    -Why are you worried about the ice cream! Look at you! Your beautiful face!

Eva grabbed David’s face and looked closer to the stitches. David took Eva’s hands from his face. 

    -Maria already checked me, I’m going to be fine.

    -Is this going to leave a scar?

    -I hope so! It would look really cool.

    -It wouldn’t!

We all got started by Daniel’s voice.

    -I think it would look cool and…

Before David could finish speaking Daniel entered his room and then shut the door.

    -That was dramatic… Even for me. 

Eva started picking the groceries from the floor and then walked towards the kitchen. I just followed her.

    -Don’t you think we should give him some space?

    -Have you seen this place? Is tiny, and I want to hear.

She kept putting the groceries in the cabinets.

    -Dan? Come on, let me in!

David kept knocking on the door and pushing it.

    -Remember we can’t break things boys, we are not losing money from the deposit.

As Eva said that Daniel opened the door and David entered their room.

    -What was that all about?

David's voice passed through the closed door. Small place with thin walls.

    -It was nothing.

    -Nothing? You exploded at my comment about the scar.

    -Because it’s not going to leave one.

    -What if it does? 

    -It won’t!

    -Well who cares if it does?

    -I do!

    -Why would you care? It’s not your face!

    -But if you have a visible scar it would mean that you were hurt!

    -What does…

    -That I was not strong enough to protect you.

    -What? Who is going to think that?

    -Everyone! I’m the older brother, I should be able to protect you from all harm!

    -We are big enough to...

    -What will I say to Mom! She is going to be very disappointed… She always told me to take care of you.

    -She told me the exact same! And we do take care of each other!

    -How is she going to believe that! look at your face!

    -I like the distinctive look it gives me… It makes me look fierce…

    -Fierce? Mom looks fierce every time Dad would say we were leaving on a trip a scare makes you look weak!

    -You are right, she hates leaving the pack land… But I do like y¿the idea of people looking at us and knowing we are fighters, this scar proves it! So are we cool Dan?

-Yes we are cool.

Eva sighed. I turned to her and she looked sad.

    -Are you okay?

As I asked she looked at me.

    -Yes, but I hoped for a little more drama.

    -Eva!

    -What? With all of the fire situation, the mall didn’t have many people and I couldn’t hear any interesting gossip.

    -So?

    -I don’t know, I was bored and wanted to hear some good drama, but it was mediocre.

    -That's awful Eva.

    -I just wanted to be entertained… I don’t see what’s awful about that.

She said as she folded the bags.

    -Do you think Maria and Lucas could stop to buy some sushi?

    -They had a busy day… You know with all the fire situations…

    -I know… But I’m really craving some sushi.

She said as he looked at me with puppy eyes.
