CHAPTER 06 - MATE?

GABRIEL

-Gabe, I think we got the wrong party, this should be for Maria…

-Yes, that must be it.

We started walking backward and Dad, who was at the door, stopped us by putting his hand on our back.

-Where do you think you are going?

-Dad so good to see you, you see, Gabe and I think you mistook the parties, I think Maria should be here and we should go elsewhere.

He pushed us back in and as soon as we were back inside, all the eyes were on us… Not that I was amazed, but having all that amount of female eyes on me was making me uncomfortable. The place was full of females, with no men in sight, some were from the pack some were from Lucas’s pack, and others I met at the young camp. They were all dressed up, with makeup and heels. Music was playing…

-I hate you so much Sam, but yes, I do have a plan.

I gulped and took a step forward.

-Hi… Well, thanks for coming here tonight, it’s good to see you all here… I’m not sure what my mom has in mind… But my brother here…

I pushed Sam in front of me.

-He just told me he smelled the most amazing scent in his life.

I heard screams and then many girls came running at Sam. I got off the light spot and sat on the table that was in the back and ate some chips while each girl got closer to Sam so he could smell them more clearly. He kept looking at me with daggers, but the scene was so funny I didn’t care. “What if our mate is also here?” Zeus' voice was worried. “I think that we would have already noticed, don’t you think?” “Mom didn’t notice Dad…” He had a point, but mom didn’t know Anri at that point so… “I think we are good, and no one here is our mate.” “Can we at least try?” “Okay, but don’t get sad when we discover that I’m right.” I closed my eyes and let my scent get stronger, I also started smelling each particle that came to my senses, many different scents, but nothing higher than the other, just scents. I opened my eyes and saw everyone looking at me. “What happened, Zeus?” “Look back, Zac.” I turned my head and saw a big reddish wolf with dark brown eyes… It growled loud and most of the females present lowered their heads. Then as I saw the shaking, I knew it was going to shift. I took the tablecloth, I didn't care for the broken glasses or plates, but I feared Kevin. I put the cloth on the back of the wolf.

-HE IS MINE! SO DON’T YOU DARE TO EVEN LOOK AT HIM!

I smiled at the mad and red Eva. She was still shaking. “I think our strong scent makes her think we found our mate.” Zeus could be right, but now she gave me the perfect excuse to leave the place without Mom being crazy about it.

-It was a pleasure, but I will bring this pack member back to her room.

Eva was about to complain but I picked her up, prince's style and she just grabbed my neck and smiled at me. I heard some excited screams coming from the other females, and Sam made a tantrum, but I didn’t care and left the party. As we walked to the house, Eva was quiet. When I finally let her down in front of her room, she grabbed my hand.

-I know you don’t believe me, but I know I’m going to be your mate… So please stay away from other girls, just give me some time until I turn eighteen and you can see what I see.

She said with sparks in her eyes. I nodded. She entered her room. I made that promise because I wasn’t even trying to look at anybody, and that would bring peace of mind to Eva, so I hope she isn’t that intense for the rest of the time until her birthday. I walked to my room and a strong scent of pizza was everywhere. I opened my door and saw Lucas still in sweatpants eating pizza playing games.

-So you didn’t go to the party?

-I did, but I left early and took five pizzas along with me.

-Can I eat some?

-This is the last slice, sorry.

He said and then he licked the last slice. I just let a low growl and lay in the other bean bag. Lucas was a really good player and I was impressed. He ate and played… Now I can see why his father always hid his games, he spent an awful amount of time with them. I’m not sure how much time passed but Sam entered the room. I didn’t need to turn my head back and see him, his scent was more than enough.

-YOU CHICKEN!

-Hi Sam…

-Don’t you start! You let me there to die!

-Did you die?

-I ALMOST DID!

I saw Lucas and he didn’t flinch, he was completely focused.

-Well you are alive, so the problem is solved.

-NO! IT’S NOT PROBLEM SOLVED!

-Why? did you find your mate?

-NO! BUT I HAD LIKE A HUNDRED OF FEMALES AROUND ME, THINKING THEY COULD BE THE ONE THANKS TO YOUR MEAN COMMENT!

-Mean?

-YES MEAN! YOU THROW ME UNDER THE BUS AND JUST SAVED YOURSELF! YOU COWARD CHICKEN!

-I’m a lion, not a chicken.

He let a low growl out and just jumped into his bed. I knew he was annoyed when I talked to him, as if I didn’t know what he was talking about. He always shut himself down and tonight I had enough drama for the rest of the year… And I spoke too soon, I could hear heels approaching at a high speed. “That must be our sister.” Great, another one that is going to blame me… It’s not like I could have stopped Mom, if Dad wasn’t able to stop her, I would never be able to do something. As I predicted I heard a loud noise and the door opening, but at the same time, Lucas jumped off the bean bag and looked at the door with an expression of fear that I had never seen before. I quickly stood up and saw Maria with the same expression. I looked through the room but didn’t see anything, are they seeing something that I don’t?

-NO!

Maria screamed and even Sam jumped off the bed. I still didn’t see anything, and Sam was as confused as me. I looked at Lucas he was there frozen.

-Lucas, what is happening?

He didn’t even move. Then I saw Xavier running and when he entered the door Lucas jumped into him and tackled him down.

-MINE! DON’T YOU DARE TO GET CLOSE!

And that's when it clicked, I tackled Lucas off Xavier and grabbed him by the neck.

-HOW YOU DARE! I TRUSTED YOU!

I heard screams and then I felt my dad's arms pulling me.

-DON’T DAD! HE IS MARIA’S MATE!

As I said that I felt my anger increasing and my dad stopped pulling me, but as he stopped I felt sparks, and knew it was now my mom trying to get me off him. I felt claws in my arms and then I stopped applying pleasure and she threw me off Lucas.

-GABRIEL MILLER WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?

-Baby calm down…

-YOU ZACHARY MILLER DON’T SPEAK TO ME! I SAW HOW YOU LET YOUR SON STRANGLE THAT KID!

My dad just lowered his head. Mom looked back at me.

-What was on your mind, Gabe? Kill your sister’s mate, your friend?

My dad growled at Lucas.

-I REALLY CAN’T WITH THE BOYS IN THIS FAMILY! LUCAS, MARIA OUTSIDE! THE REST STAY HERE!

-BUT MOM!

-No Gabe stay here! and you, my dear, go back to our room!

My dad left the room and so did Maria and Lucas. Sam, Xavier, and I stayed in my room.

-I’M SO MAD!

I jumped into my bed and screamed at my pillow. “HOW DID HE DARE! SHE IS OUR SISTER!” Zeus was still pissed off and so was I so the mixture of feelings wasn't helping our peace of mind. I tried to control my breathing but my claws just ripped my pillow into shreds. I looked at Sam and Xavier. Xavier was crying? “Great more drama…” Zeus shut himself down. What lowered my anger but… I also didn't want to know about it… But Xavier is my friend. I sat on the bed and found the courage to walk to the guy crying a river and Sam, who was only petting his back with an awkward look. I finally stood up and sat next to Xavier.

-What’s wrong Xavier?

He tried to speak but his cries were stopping him.

-Are you afraid of Lucas attacking you?

He denied it with his head.

-Are you mad because I tried to kill Lucas?

Again he denies it. I wasn’t in the mood to keep guessing.

-I’m out of guesses Xavier, can you breathe and explain the situation to me?

He started breathing and I just waited for his respiration to get calmer… It took like forever, but when his heartbeat and respiration came back to normal.

-I’m just confused… I was sure I had an opportunity with Maria, and then Lucas was the chosen one…

Just hearing it made my blood boil, but I tried to stay calm.

-I’m just confused. If she is not my mate, then who could it be… Am I mateless? What if I don’t love my mate as I loved Maria and then my mate rejected me? Am I going to turn rogue and be killed by my friends?

Okay, I think he dramatizes everything a bit too much. I just sighed.

-I don't think your theories are right. Your mate is there somewhere… And believe me, my sister is not what you think, she is so noisy and her food is poisonous. You are going to find a woman that would be your half and everything would turn even better than what you could imagine… and if you are lucky with a better hand in the kitchen.

He had a small smile but his eyes were still glassy.

-It’s not like I have another option now…

-You can always call for a blood moon and kill Lucas.

I looked at Sam with daggers, but then Xavier started laughing.

-You are right.

Sam smiled, I think he isn’t used to people telling him that.

-He isn’t right, Xavier! If you kill Lucas Maria would be mateless…

My heart shrinks at that thought.

-And the kingdom would lose a big warrior, and we would lose a good friend.

Xavier looked at me while he was laughing.

-I don’t think Sam meant it, Gabe, but he was just saying it to make me feel better, even if I called for a blood moon I'm pretty sure I would lose the fight… So I just need to get used to the idea and try to calm all of the rest of the pack when they find out so no one gets annoyed at Lucas, he didn’t choose to be her mate so…

He sighed and stood up.

-I would go back to my room and try to explain the rest, so this doesn't catch them off guard.

He left the room. He was right is not like Lucas chose it… but Lucas wouldn’t choose to leave his pack and come to mine, he had the responsibility of future Alpha and worst he was the only son, there was no one else… So either I lose my sister or she stays mateless… but mom passed some years without a mate, I should ask her about this and see if Maria can take that path and still be happy. “I think you are right, mom was happy.” Zeus' voice surprised me. It was calmer so that means so was him. “Yes, I think so too Zeus.” I stood up and went to bed. I felt Sam sitting on my bed.

-What are you thinking?

-Nothing, just that Maria doesn't need to go, my mom stayed without her mate for a long time so Maria could do the same.

A pillow hit me in the head.

-I KNEW I WAS RIGHT! YOU ARE A CHICKEN!

I was mad why did he hit me and why was he calling me a chicken… Again.

-HOW DARE YOU!

-HOW YOU DARE TO TRY TO PRESSURE A UNHAPPY LIFE ON OUR SISTER!

-I’M NOT DOING ANYTHING OF THE SORT!

-YOU ARE! YOU THINK MOM WAS HAPPY…

-SHE WAS!

As soon as I said those words Sam looked at me with pity…

-Gabe… She wasn’t. You should have seen the face she had when she put herself in the middle of the road, she was devastated, tired, depressed, exhausted… and I don’t blame her, she was trying to be okay in front of you, but just like our dad at that time, she was broken, she was incomplete. And she was so drained, she was willing to give her life up…

-THAT 'S NOT TRUE!

-It is Gabe…

I lost it, I tackled Sam and with our weight, the window broke and we fell to the ground from the third floor. I felt the kit on my body, I knew I was shifting, but Zeus was taking control and with the anger, I couldn’t stop him.

MARIA

Mom was leading me and Lucas to the garden, I was trying to hold my breath so that the annoying scent of grass and lime could be away from me. When we were finally out mom smiled at me.
