CHAPTER 09 - NOT RIGHT

SAMUEL

She looked directly into my eyes and laughed… Why is she laughing? I looked at Gabe and he was mouth open.

    -I always thought you had a bird brain but not even a bird sound your brain can copy.

She kept laughing and then Gabe started laughing with her. I thought my imitation was really good. Then a strange noise came and I saw Gabe with a red mark on his face and the poles he was trying to insert in the tent were all over the place.

    -The alpha king can’t handle a human tent!

And the second burst of laughter appeared. Gabe was not laughing, he looked mad. I started laughing at Gabe's face, he was turning red.

    -THIS IS HARDER THAN IT LOOKS!

When Gabe screamed at us, his ears appeared and in that instant, Maria stopped laughing, and again her sight was lost. Gabe noticed and in second his ears were gone, but we couldn’t get Maria’s attention anymore. I collected some wood and started to make a fire. Gabe was still struggling with the tent. I ate cookies and gave some to Maria, Gabe did not eat a thing, he was focused on the tent… that looked like anything but a tent.

    -I can’t do this!

    -And what’s your plan? Maria can’t sleep outside.

Gabe let a loud scream and just threw himself into the ground.

    -This was a dumb plan.

I went and laid next to him.

    -Well Maria laughed for a while, so it wasn’t that dumb Gabe.

    -I couldn’t even get the tent ready… 

    -Why didn’t you ask for the RV?

    -What RV?

    -There’s a huge RV in one of the garages of the pack.

    -Why would a pack of werewolves had something like that?

    -Don’t know but it’s huge, and it’s the only car that doesn't have the key inside, I tried to use it to escape but couldn’t find the key.

    -Is there a place where you didn’t look for things to escape?

    -Probably not.

    -You really want to get away from here.

    -Yes I do, but this time you are right my family needs me and right now my place is here with you and Maria.

Gabe looked at me, like if he was trying to read my mind. I kept eye contact, it’s hard to look Gabe in the eyes for long… A sudden movement made us jump on our feet. I saw Maria looking at the instructions of the tent and taking some pieces out of where Gabe put them.

    -Are you just going to look or are you going to help?

I turned and saw Gabe. He had a big smile on his face.

    -I already try, so you think you can do it better?

    -I don’t think I know I can.

Maria said with a big smile.

    -Then what do we need to do?

Gabe said as he walked towards her.

    -Take all the things out and we will start fresh.

When she said that I knew she wasn’t just talking about the tent, but I think she was trying to pull herself together and find her way back to life because right now she wasn’t living. I also walked and helped Gabe to take out everything, Then Maria started ordering us to put some pieces together and the tent little by little started to actually look like a tent.

    -How did you understand all of the instructions?

    -Easy Gabe. I usually follow the instructions for the makeup, so this wasn’t that hard.

    -Well at least you look like a clown every day and making us see that horrible face helped us today.

Maria kicked me and Gabe started laughing.

    -It's true! wearing red on your lips and stuff in your face makes you look weird!

    -He has a point Maria, you sometimes look like a clown.

    -Well at least my clown abilities helped us, your alpha training and his runaways abilities didn’t help at all to assemble the tent.

Gabe started looking in the bag my mom made me carry and took some blankets out. He started to arrange them on the floor as the control freak he was. Then he looked at me.

    -Can you prepare dinner at least? Maria did the tent, I’m arranging it and you are there doing nothing, so dinner is in your hands.

    -I can help you with that.

Maria stood up.

    -NO!

I and Gabe screamed at the same time.

    -I mean you already did the tent, let Sam handle dinner.

    -Or in other words, Gabe is afraid of being poisoned by your food.

As I said that I ran into the forest to look for more firewood. The warm breeze made me want to shift. As I was starting my shift I felt Gabe in the mind link.

    -” Sam, I think Maria is sensible to our other halves since we can contact them and she can’t feel Nova, so if we are near her we need to keep them to ourselves, trying not to use the mind link or shift. We need to act like normal humans.”

Gabe had a point, I would also feel bad if I couldn’t contact Finn and I saw everyone else with their wolves… That would be awful.

    -” Yes I got it.”

Suddenly I felt Finn. “So we are not shifting?” “Sorry Finn, we are not.” “It’s okay, I understand… and I also miss Nova.” A wave of sadness filled my body, I never thought of how Finn felt about losing a sister, I see Maria every day, but Finn can’t communicate with Nova. I carried all the firewood I could and went back to the camp. I added more wood into the fire and took some sausages out. I used some sticks and started cooking them in the fire. Mom sent some packages of mustard and ketchup. We ate all of the sausages and then we went directly to the tent. The rest of the days went like that, we laughed, talked all day and Maria even started to put on makeup again, she smiled a lot more and each day the time she was lost was less. I could see Gabe happier and more relaxed each day. Finally, Gabe told us we were going to go back, Maria helped us pack and she even rode on Gabe’s back by herself without needing all the stuff we used to take her here. When we arrived at the packhouse my mom and dad were out waiting for us.

    -Hi princess, how was your week?

My dad took Maria in his arms and kissed her on the forehead, my mom was also looking at her and she had tears in her eyes.

    -It was great, we had a lot of fun and…

At that moment I saw my dad's eyes and they turned clearer, almost white, I knew someone was mind linking him and When I saw mom her eyes were also dull, her ears showed and dad put Maria back in the ground and then he gave his back to her and looked at the house. 

    -NELSON, NATE! WE ARE GOING NOW!

He then looked at Gabe.

    -YOU TOO FOLLOW ME!

Dad shifted and Gabe followed him, two big wolves came running from the front door, Nelson and Nate were running, I followed them but mom stopped me.

    -Go back! Stay with Maria!

I immediately went back. Maria was in the same spot dad left her, she had lost sight. I tried to push her but she was absent. I shifted back to my human form and I carried her into her room, when I opened the door I saw my room? I looked around and the wall that divided the rooms were gone. I left Maria in her bed and went into my closet and put on some clothes and since Maria can’t see me in here I tried to contact Gabe.

    -” Gabe what's happening?”

He was not answering.

    -” Sabrina are you there?”

    -” Sam are you alright?”

    -” Yes I’m alright. Do you know what is happening?”

    -” Intruders, they are wandering around the pack land.”

    -” Is someone harmed?”

    -” No, that's the strange part, the intruders are just running near the border but it’s strange...”

    -” What is strange Sabrina?”... “Sabrina?”

I didn’t feel the link, she stopped answering. I went out and saw Maria. She was still in the bed with her sight loss.

    -Maria come on, you were alright, don’t go back to that place.

A loud noise came from outside and I felt a sound of voices through the link. I opened the window and saw some strange movements in the air, in the trees, my heartfelt like flying looking at that, I felt butterflies in my body. “Let’s go SAM!” Finn was just ready to jump, but I turned my head and saw Maria in the bed. “We can’t Finn… We must be here.” I closed the window and with the pain in my heart, I looked away and went and sat near Maria. I turned the TV on and decided to see a movie that I knew Maria liked. In the middle of the movie, I felt Maria using my legs as a pillow. I smiled, at least she finally moved. She then started laughing and singing. I closed the mind link so Maria would relax more. Suddenly the door opened and I saw Gabe. Maria took a pillow and threw it at Gabe.

    -HOW DARE YOU TO WALK NAKED LIKE THAT!

Gabe holds the pillow covering his manhood. 

    -You are not answering, I was worried.

    -Did something happen with the intruders?

My heart was on edge.

    -No we couldn’t capture them, actually I…

    -What were they?

Gabe looked confused at me.

    -Werewolves of course, what else could they be?

I looked at him, he was telling the truth but I was sure I…

    -WHY ARE YOU STILL NAKED?

Gabe rolled his eyes and entered the closet, I followed him.

    -What was that Gabe?

    -What was what?

Again! I hate it when he acts as if he doesn't understand me! but this time he wasn't getting away with it!

    -You know what I mean! 

    -No actually I do not.

    -Stop this dumb game, Gabe, please.

    -Sam I told you everything okay, I followed them! They were fast and I couldn’t reach them!

    -But I…

He looked at me with a really creepy look, and I knew that he felt scared, he was insecure and afraid. He needed my support more than ever. 

    -But what Sam?

    -Nothing, you are probably right, if I was there I could probably catch them or at least one.

    -What?

    -Yeah, you know you are slower than me and I can outrun you anytime.

Gabe looked at me and started laughing. Then I went back to Maria's bed. Maria was looking at me and then she looked at the TV and pressed play.

    -Why did you pause it?

    -And let you miss part of the movie?

Maria looked at me with a playful and sarcastic look. She knows I hate this type of movie and she is enjoying my suffering. 

    -I hate you so much, sister.

    -I love you too.

Gabe came and joined us in the bed, it was a twin bed so we were now kind of tight, and I had Gabe’s feet in my face. I pushed his feet and he fell from the bed. I laughed but the hit of a pillow on my face made me lose my balance and I fell and hit my head on the floor. I saw Maria with a smile and a pillow in her hands.

    -You are dead! 

I jumped back on the bed and chased Maria through the room. Then the door of my room opened and my dad was there. He froze at that moment. He was about to speak when his eyes changed color, then he looked at Gabe.

    -Gabe to my office now! and Sam keep your link available!

Gabe left the room and I turned and looked at Maria, she was there standing still and looking at nothing again. That was it. I couldn’t work in these conditions, I see why Gabe made us go away for a time, Maria was happy out there, and as soon as we came back she was again building that wall. I wasn’t losing my sister again. “But what can we do Sam?” “The only thing that we can do Finn, put that dumb Alpha’s in their place.” “ I really don’t think that is a good idea, Sam.” “Finn look at our sister!” I turned and looked at my sister that looked more like a corpse right now, her sight was lost, and even her skin color was almost translucent. “If we don’t do something, she is going to die at this rate.”
