CHAPTER 11 - NEW ROOMATES

GABRIEL

-There’s someone on the door! Maybe it’s food! Can you go, Gabe? I can’t move. I'm so weak right now.

    -Is there really someone at the door?

Maria was confused, I don’t think that she is able to hear the knocks on the door… I need to ask for a doorbell. I stood up and went downstairs and opened the door. Eva was standing there with a huge box.

    -Aren’t you going to help me?

I took the box from her hands and it was indeed really heavy.

    -Your mom sent this for you.

    -And you carried all by yourself?

    -What? No! I had people carrying it until the front of the house and then I just carried it until the door and waited for you to open it.

    -Why?

    -They told me you were not coming to the main house so I had to come to you.

    -You don’t need to be here.

    -You don’t need me here? Then who is going to prepare the food?

I hate her so much… but she was a great cook and…

    -You can stay in the kitchen.

    -As you wish.

She smiled at me, and then she opened the box.

    -But I would need some help, do you think Maria would like to help me?

I know that she wants me to help, Maria was sure not an option, and Sam would probably eat everything before cooking it. I was out of options.

    -What do you need me to do?

-Start putting the food in the cabinets I will wash the vegetables.

The rest of the day passed smoothly, cooking with Eva was really fun, and the food was really good. Then Eva took some movies and Maria chose one and we watched it, she laughed with Eva throughout the movie. It was a girl movie but Maria was happy. Sam complained during the entire movie. At night Eva said goodbye and left as soon as his dad came for her. I went to my room and slept, I postponed everything for tomorrow so I knew I had a lot of things to do. As soon as I woke up I left the house, I returned for lunch and then went back, Sam and Maria stayed at the house, except for morning training Maria stayed at the house, and Sam joined me for training. The days passed and the routine was the same, we tried to make Maria leave the house but she didn’t want to. She made a garden for her with a fountain and a white kiosk, where she read all day. Eva joined us for some dinners, just the ones where my parents didn’t join us, that was most of them but Maria seemed fine, apart from that she didn’t want to leave the house at all. My dad left me more Alpha responsibilities and I was most of my time in his office, he added a desk for me and I stayed there a great part of the day. That was our routine for weeks. I woke up and saw the time, I was late, I dressed up and went out, I could only think of the pile of documents on my desk that I promised to have ready by today. I was so focused in my head that only when I closed the door I felt someone pushing me. I saw Eva with tears in her eyes. She then kissed me on the lips, the kiss was soft and tender, I could feel her tears on my face. When our lips weren’t touching anymore she looked at me.

    -I can’t accept this! I don’t believe it!

She then opened the door and entered running. I was confused, shocked and I was late. I walked to the main house when I opened the door Britanny was looking at me with a spark on her face.

    -So?

I looked at her with more confusion, I looked back but I was the only one, what was she asking?

    -I’m sorry I don’t know what you are asking.

    -My poor baby!

She opened the door and left running. “Well like mother like daughter.” I went into the kitchen looking for something sweet and water and saw a cake. I took a knife to cut a slice and then saw something at the top of it.

Happy Birthday Eva

“Was she mad because we didn’t tell her happy birthday?” Zeus was asking a bunch of questions and I just wanted to understand what was happening. Mom saw me and then left running, Dad ran after her. “Zeus are we still asleep, am I dreaming?” “I think that’s the only reasonable option…” Kevin also went running. I went upstairs and saw Nate with Harvey.

    -Nate I have some questions.

    -Harvey please go back to your room, training will be delayed today.

I was confused, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to be at training but why was the training delayed for everybody.

    -What are your questions, Gabe?

    -Why is training delayed?

    -Your dad and Kevin are busy right now and I can’t instruct all the pack by myself.

    -What about Nelson?

    -He is away with Simon and other members, on a mission.

    -What mission is that? I didn’t hear about that.

He scratched his head and looked at me.

    -You didn’t hear about that because it’s a trivial thing and your dad is so busy and you have your share of work, so it’s just a formality to another pack.

“The royal pack visits packs often to know how they are doing and to hear from them.” Zeus was right, that’s a formality so we can help the pack and know from first hand how things are going.

    -Was that all?

    -No it wasn’t, why is everybody running this morning?

    -Who is running?

    -Eva, her mom, Mom, Dad, and even Kevin.

    -Everything looked normal at breakfast, we sang happy birthday to Eva and then she left to…

He looked at me.

    -Don’t you feel something different?

    -What? No why would I?

    -That must be the reason then. Since you left Eva just talked about how on her birthday she would be moving out and moving in with you, for months she only talked about that.

    -I’m really not following you, what does that have to do with everybody running.

    -Well I can’t say my thoughts are the truth so, we will need to…

I saw his eyes getting clearer and dull.

    -Change of plans Gabe, I need you to help me with the training.

    -I have too much work and…

    -You will do it later.

I helped with training, Sam joined us late so Nate made him run as a punishment. At the end of training Sam just laid on the grass. I walked to where he was, he usually ran back home.

    -Was training hard on you today?

    -No, it was okay.

    -Then what are you doing still here?

    -The house is full of people.

Full of people?

    -There are so many screams and cries that I will stay here until I know it’s safe to go back.

“Gabe! Dad is asking if we finish with the paperwork of the petitions from the Sand Storm pack.” “Tell him I will finish today.” I left Sam there and went directly to the office, I stayed there until I was done and took the papers and left them on my father’s desk. I noticed that it was already dark outside, I left the main house, a strange silence ruled over the whole pack. As I entered the house the scent of baked cookies flooded my body.

    -That smells delicious! Did mom bring cookies?

As I entered the kitchen I saw Eva cooking and Sam sitting on a char really close to a tray full of cookies.

    -Well it’s your Mother’s recipe, but I made them.

    -Eva? Isn’t it too late for you to be here? Your Dad most is already outside.

    -He isn’t coming.

She said I turned and saw Sam with his mouth full of cookies, Eva was taking a tray from the oven so she hadn’t noticed him yet.

    -Why is he not coming?

    -I will stay here.

    -You are kidding, right? Your dad wouldn’t allow that.

    -Well he did, I will stay in Maria’s room.

    -Wait like in Maria’s room for a night or…

    -This is my new home, Gabe.

I was about to complain when I felt Maria’s hand on my mouth and she pulled me out of the kitchen and then she continued dragging me until we were in the garden. I took her hand and pushed away from my face.

    -What are you doing?

    -Are you crazy, she is having a hard time!

    -Then she can go with her parents!

    -You haven’t noticed, right?

    -Notice what?

    -She decided… She decided to take wolfbane.

-Why?

-She discovered you were not her mate. She was devastated, her cries were so loud, and combined with her Mother's cries when she found out...

Everything was making sense, the kiss, her cries, Brittany running, my Mom, Dad, Kevin they all came running to my house because Eva was here, but…

-How did Mom accede to this?

-It was a disaster, Gabe, Eva crying, her Mom crying, and even Kevin. Of course, Mom said no, but Eva threatened with turning rouge and with many other things, that at the end even her parents begged Mom to agree and prepare some for her.

-I understand, but why is she staying here?

-She says it is best for her since I’m already in that process and can help her through it.

-That has some sense to it… So right now she is taking that wolfbane?

-Yes she is.

-That’s why Sam is not leaving her side?

-Yes… well that and the cookies.

-She doesn’t look that bad to be taking the serum.

-I know she looks good, but I can say from my own experience she isn’t feeling that good.

-Then she would need all of our support.

-Yes.

We walked back to the kitchen and ate cookies until we couldn’t eat more. I said goodbye and went to my room. I needed to sleep early so that I could wake up and finish all the paperwork that’s been piling up on my desk
