Audrey’s POV
“Get up, you lazy slut,” Mother yelled at me as a bucket of cold water landed on me.
My entire body trembled as the cold water soaked through my clothes. I tried to open my eyes, but the light was too bright, causing me to shut them immediately with my head throbbing badly.
I could feel my mother’s gaze on me as I struggled to get myself together. I tried to recollect what happened, and I opened my eyes slowly, and I realized I was lying on the kitchen floor. It all came back to me: Kevin tried to kill me… I scanned the room, but he was nowhere close.
I felt another round of water on my body, and my legs immediately sprang to their feet.
“You are so dumb, and you felt the best place for you to sleep was in the kitchen?” Mother asked, totally unaware that I passed out while Kevin choked me… I could be dead, and no one would even care.
“I didn’t mean to sleep off mother; I only sat to rest a bit. I don’t feel so well,” I said as I trembled; I was freezing.
“Just a stupid excuse to get off work, or she probably wanted Father to meet her in such a position so that he would think we are maltreating her,” Ava chipped in as she walked into the kitchen with a smirk on her face. “Thank God, I found her first,” she added.
“And she thinks she can fool me. You are nothing but a slave in this house. I was kind enough to take the daughter of a w***e into my house, but what do I get?” she asked.
“But mom…” I began as a slap landed on my cheek.
“How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that? I am not your mother; I would never be a mother to a w***e like you, she said as tears welled up in my eyes.
“Clean up this place,” she ordered as they both walked out of the kitchen, leaving me to my thoughts and pains.
With tears streaming down my face, I went to pick up a mop to clean up the water; my life was nothing but a nightmare.
I was tortured and subjected to constant bullying from the Millers and even the pack members, as they referred to me as weakly born of a w***e mother.
‘Audrey, we can escape from this if you want; this is becoming unbearable… We are before weaker and more fragile; you might lose yourself soon. My inner wolf spat out sadly.
‘You think they’ll let me remember what happened the last time we tried to escape?. I took twenty whips of a cane soaked in wolfsbane. We almost died,’ I reminded my wolf as I recalled the horrible moments.
‘I had forgotten Audrey,’ my wolf muttered sadly, and I smiled. My wolf had always been my best friend ever since I got her.
“Mother said you should get her some cookies,” I heard Ava’s voice behind me as I turned.
“I’ll be right there,” I said, and she rolled her eyes and walked away.
I took some cookies on a plate and went upstairs, and Ava barged out of her room with some clothes in her hands. “Here… do my laundry.”.
She dumped the clothes on the floor. “But Ava, today isn’t meant for laundry. Can I do it tomorrow? I’m not feeling too well.”
“That’s your business; I need these clothes by noon,” she said and turned away. I sighed, and I went to give Mother the cookies.
“Here are the cookies, Mother,” I told her as she flipped through a magazine. Without raising her head, she pointed at the table close to her, and she gestured towards it.
As I walked towards the table, I missed a step, and I fell on the floor with the plate of cookies crashing. Thankfully I was able to save the plate, but I couldn’t save the cookies as they were all sprawled on the floor.
Mother gave me a death glare as she angrily dropped the magazine on the table. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
I trembled slightly knowing the consequences of what had just happened. “I am so sorry, Mother. I didn’t mean it.”
“Excuses… excuses… excuses. That’s all you ever do. You never take responsibility and accept that you are stupid and dumb, she yelled angrily as I stood there with my head looking at the floor; I dared not raise my head to look at her.
“Oh, I see what you tried to do; you decided to throw it so that you can pick it up and eat it, right?” she asked
“No... no.” I stammered as my heartbeat accelerated.
A thundering slap landed on my cheek. “You are nothing but a stupid and dumb w***e,” she cursed as I held my cheek in pain.
Mother looked at me with a smirk. “Pick every crumb.”
I bent and began picking the cookies, then a slap landed on my back, causing me to fall. “With your mouth, stupid.”
I raised my head in shock to look at her. “But mother…”
“You want me to make you?” She asked with venom in her voice; before I could say anything, she dug her heels into her hands.
“Ouchh…” I yelled in pain as I began to cry, unable to move my hands. She seemed to be excited as she dug her heel deeper into my flesh with a smirk on her face.
Tears streamed down my eyes at its will. “Please… please stop,” I managed to say, but another resounding slap landed on my cheek, but thankfully she lifted her feet and walked back to the armchair.
I held my hand as I watched blood dripping on the floor. “You are messing up my floor,” she said with irritation while I struggled to stand up.
“What is happening here?” Father’s voice resounded through the room as Mother’s face froze in fear.
