Chapter 4

Audrey’s POV As I walked through the narrow way to my room, I could feel my feet trembling with each step I took. I could hear the chatter of birds as if they were mocking me. I was in pain; I was devastated. My mate was in bed with someone else and not just anyone… A man, my mate, was f*****g a man. “We should leave now; they won't even notice. No one was around; this is the perfect time to leave this hell,” Lyla, my wolf, said to me. I stumbled into my room, I rushed towards my bag, and I put in the few things I had. I sighed, and I took one last look around my surroundings. “Audrey, we need to leave now; he will kill us if we don’t leave now,” Lyla mumbled. I stuck my head outside the room to make sure no one was in the hallway, and with speed I ran out of my room. I walked as fast as I could, and as fate could have it, I didn’t encounter any single guard on my way out. I managed to escape out of the back gate, which led into the woods. I ran as fast as my feet could carry me, and when I couldn’t run anymore, I decided to rest under a huge tree. I stood under the tree trying to catch my breath when I heard rustling of leaves, and then I heard Beta Kevin’s voice saying, “She hasn’t gone far; her scent is near. Be on standby; she is still within the pack’s border.” My leg suddenly increased its pace, and then I felt a sharp sting on my leg, causing me to fall. I looked down and realized it was an arrow. I hurriedly pulled out the arrow, and I changed into my wolf form with Lyla taking over. I ran as fast as I could, but I soon slowed down. I began to feel dizzy, and I realized the arrow had wolfsbane. I tried as much as I could to continue running, but I had to stop, and I changed back to my human form. “Catch ya,” I heard a voice say, and I turned to see Beta Kevin standing before me. “You think you are smart…huh?” he asked as I whimpered in pain. “You are so dumb and gullible; you can't even escape without being caught,” he growled angrily, his hands flipping me over as I landed on a fallen tree. I winced in pain as he rushed towards me again. He flipped me harder; this time I landed on the ground. I whimpered in pain as I hugged my knees, the pain taking over me as tears began to fall from my eyes, the wolfsbane taking full effect. This time I knew death was close; I wanted to die just so this pain could go away. “You think you can escape me, you w***e,“ he growled as his voice echoed through the woods, causing me to flinch in fear. “I own you.” I shivered in fear and pain; I wished someone would save me or he would just kill me to make my death less painful. “Beta Kevin, please spare me.” I begged, and he let out a wicked laugh. “Spare you?” he asked. “I should spare you after what you saw,” he asked again. “You will definitely pay for this the hard way,” he said as he trailed his hands down my breast. He pulled me up, and I sat on the ground; I rested my back on the tree. I was bleeding from everywhere. “Reject me; I will accept your rejection.” I blurted out the words I never thought I would say. “You dare ask for a rejection,” he roared as he landed a slap on my face. “You are a monster, worse than the devil; knowing you are my mate was the beginning of my sorrow. I can't take this anymore! I yelled. I didn’t know where the energy came from. Disbelief spread across his face; he was surprised that I had raised my voice at him. He stood watching for a second before gripping my neck. “How dare you raise your voice at me, you w***e? I do the yelling and the rejecting,” he asked. “I f*****g want a rejection, asshole; I would rather die being mateless than having a mate who is a monster and a fag,” I spat, using every ounce of energy in me. That was it; I was tired of being treated more like a slave in my own pack, people I was to call my family. I wanted freedom, and if daring him would buy my freedom or death, then so be it. “Do you want a rejection? Can you handle it?” he asked with a devilish grin. I growled at him, “There is absolutely nothing I can't handle after everything you and your family have done to me.” “For causing me a lot of trouble, I will watch my men have fun with you, and then you can have your rejection,” he said without any atom of remorse. “I, Audrey Kyle of the nightwalker pack, reject you, Kevin Miller, beta of the nightwalker pack, as my mate; I sever the bond binding us together as I accept going rogue,” I declared as he felt it in his chest. I felt a deep pain in my chest, like a knife had been pierced through my heart. I had not only rejected Kevin as my mate, but I also accepted going rogue. He looked at me with anger and hatred; that kind of look would have bothered me in the past, but right now I felt nothing for him anymore. “You want to go rogue? That’s the worst. You know what the rules are regarding going rogue. You will be an enemy of the nightwalkers pack, and you will be chased away by any other pack. They will see you as a threat, he told me, but at this point I didn’t care. “What is happening here?” a deep, cold voice with an aura of authority asked. Kevin turned to see who dared question him, with visible shock and fear on his face. “Alpha Micheal… What brings you here?” he asked. I realized that was the most feared Alpha; he was rumored to be a demon because of his ruthlessness. “Last time I checked, this is the territory of the midnight pack,” he growled. “I didn’t realize we had passed the border; we were only chasing this rogue,” he said, obviously trying to divert the fact that he was past the border. “Who is she?” he asked as he stared at me, his eyes boring into mine as a wave of deep emotion coursed through me. “Alpha Micheal, she is my mate who just rejected our mate bond after a little argument,” he said, emphasizing the ’little.’. “Young lady, how dare you reject your mate?” he asked as I suddenly got cold feet. “You know the rules that apply to those who reject their goddess-given mates, right?” “I don’t f*****g care; I just want to be away from these evil people,” I said as tears welled up in my eyes, but I tried to keep the tears in. “You reek of wolfsbane. What happened? How come you are filled with wolfsbane and there is blood all over you? he asked with a tender voice this time. “My goddess-given f*****g mate shot me with an arrow that was poisoned with wolfsbane. Shouldn’t there be a rule that punishes those who use their power against the weak and powerless?” I asked. “Why are you rejecting your mate?” he asked. I looked at Kevin with disdain as the scene of seeing him with another man replayed in my head. “He is not suitable for me,” I managed to say. He turned to beta Kevin. “Have you accepted her rejection?” he asked. “Not yet,” he responded. “Did you shoot her with a poisoned arrow?” he asked Kevin again. “Yes, I did, but…” he said but was quickly cut off by Alpha Michael. “Alpha the rejection immediately,” the alpha said to my amazement. “But…” Kevin tried to say again. “Do as you are commanded,” the alpha told him. "I have never seen Kevin this scared before. “I, Kevin Miller, beta of the nightwalker pack, accept your rejection; I therefore break the bond between us,” Kevin said, and I felt the connection between us severed, and I felt free. “Good, get up; you are coming with me as my mate.” I looked at him in disbelief; my wolf couldn't help but stir in excitement. “Second chance mate,” Lyla said to me. Our gaze deepened as I looked into his gray eyes. I used to hear stories about the brutal and ruthless Alpha Michael. “Didn't you hear me?” He asked louder, causing me to jolt out of my thoughts. I didn't know what to do; should I go with him? Should I reject him? My heart pounded in my chest as I faced the ruthless Alpha. His eyes, cold and calculating, bore into mine as he demanded I go with him as his mate. With no escape in sight, I had to make a decision that could change the course of my life forever.
