Evans gave no reply.
"I am talking to you." She continued then shifted her gaze to his book on the table. "Oh, Evans..is that name?"
He quickly turned his book upside down then cleared his throat.
"Nice name. I'm Jasmine." She added but her expression changed as he turned a deaf ear to her greetings. "We will talk later."
They had a few other lessons and then got alerted for brunch. Evans picked at his mother's food while others left for the chat excitedly. His mother had registered him in the school the previous week, and as he had wanted, no one tried to become his friend or bully him.
He would be pleased if it went on like that.
Meanwhile, the new student was surrounded by other female students and they discussed as they ate.
All of a sudden, fourth-year male students came towards them. Knocking other junior students on their heads as they headed towards Evans.
Immediately, Evans's coursemates saw them, and they stood up from their seats, excluding Evans, whose eyes were glued to his food, and Jasmine, who was scrolling through her phone.
"Hey, you. Stand up." One of them as they got to Evans, his expression stern.
Evans raised his gaze and stared at the bulky fellow. "Are you talking to me?"
"Who else? We want to talk to the new girl so get the f**k up." He answered back rudely.
"You must be joking. This is my seat and I can't stand up as you can't even ask kindly." Evans declared firmly.
The young guys looked at them in amazement.
"It seems you're also new here, aren't you?" Another guy inquired.
"And what is wrong about being new here? We all have equal rights even though you're one year older than me. And don't you have it in mind to bully me?" Evans retorted boldly.
Meanwhile, Jasmine stayed quiet, observing the ongoing argument.
" Wow." Another guy with long brown hair applauded as he stopped forward. "I really like this guy....such confidence and boldness. Who do you think you are?"
He hit Evans on the shoulder while the other students watching stood up, not saying a word.
Evans stood up reluctantly then turned to go.
"Such a coward! He can't wait to get beaten." One guy from the group yelled, prompting the onlookers to laugh.
Evans halted. "I only came to college to study...not to get into a fight with some jobless losers."
Some of the students gasped while others nodded their heads in support of what he said.
The leader of the group's expression hardened and he looked around swiftly as Evans walked away. His gaze fell on a chair and he carried it and then threw it towards Evans.
"Evans!"
Jasmine's voice called loudly and that made him sense the danger incoming.
He did not know how but he swerved flexibly and the oncoming chair hit the wall with great force, which shattered. The students became shocked and applauded, this time louder.
Jasmine had a worried expression on her face as she rushed to him.
"Are you okay?" She questioned, her tone laced with concern.
"I'm fine."He answered back calmly.
Jasmine walked up to the guys.
"Cowards! How can you be so cruel? What if that chair had hit him?"
They paid no attention to her and the leader pointed his finger at Evans.
"You might have escaped that, but trust me Edward is coming tomorrow. He will destroy your ego." He said and they walked away, bumping into students angrily.
The students watched quietly as they left then praised Evans.
"This is the first time someone will stand up to them, they are known to be notorious." A female student said to Evans.
"Edward is the strongest in their group. He is not present today so you've to be careful as of tomorrow." Another student chipped.
"Thanks." Evans retorted and then walked away from their midst.
A young lady clad in leather trousers and jacket beamed sweetly as Evans walked away. Finally, after all the searching, she had found him
Evans reached the front of his locker then pondered how he had gotten the energy to dodge that car. Suddenly, someone ran past him and he could swear it was not at a normal speed.
He turned and his gaze fell on her. She was clad in a black outfit and her hair was raven-black. Her cheekbone complemented her facial features and she had a slight smirk on her face.
"You should not be running like that in college." He said as he bent to pick up his books which had fallen when she ran past.
"Are you the new guy?" She questioned nonchalantly.
"Yeah......
"Get used to it." She cut in and then turned to leave.
Evans furrowed his brows. She was rude and somewhat full of herself. He stepped forward to tap her on the shoulder but she swerved.
It was too fast and she smiled as she saw the surprised look on his face.
"You have to be faster, Evans. You are going to lead the pack, you can't be a leader if you are too slow or if people keep stepping on you. work on that."She let out firmly then walked away, humming a song.
Evans knitted his brows in confusion.
How did she know his name?
The pack?
What did she mean by that?
He widened his eyes as he realized he had seen a tattoo of the moon on her neck, even though it was not really noticeable he could see it.
He had a drawing like that on his back, his mother had told him it was just a normal birthmark.
He looked around and noticed that she was gone.
Was she a student of the university too?
'Brunch is over.'
Evans turned his gaze to his wristwatch then closed his locker.
He went to his class quietly and throughout the lectures, he was lost in thought. When it was time for them to leave, he searched the entire building for the strange girl but couldn't find her.
