Vanessa had just finished her shower and was drying her hair when she heard her mother coming home. She walked out of the bathroom, wearing sweatpants and a shirt, when she noticed her mother had brought someone with her. “Good evening, mother,” she mumbled. Her mother sat at the kitchen table, smoking a cigarette and didn‘t even look at her. The smell of the cigarette bothered her, her heightened sense of smell increased the disgust she had for the lingering smoke and nearly made her gag. A human she had never met before stood next to the sink, drinking some water. “Vanessa, go to your room. I don’t want to see you tonight.” It stung, hearing her mother dismiss her so carelessly.
