David did not have to turn to know whose voice it was that was addressing him. His eyes were still glued to the passageway, his ears still corked so as to capture sound waves of the descending footsteps. They were now faint meaning that they were almost outside the palace. David closed his eyes momentarily, his mind wandering to a while ago when queen Lyra had requested that he accompany her. He had but smiled and waved her off, he would only slow the youngsters down. Besides somebody had to remain behind for Mariah 's reckoning.
Warm familiar hands embraced him from behind. He leaned towards the touch, grabbing her hands and stroking them lightly. For a moment, David forgot the kingdom's current predicament.
