Chapter 2.
G-Boss turned his chair around from behind his table, where he seated while putting his cigar on the ashtray when he heard Leanne came into the room.
“I heard that your meeting with Ty Bronson went well?” he said.
Everyone who’s working for him knows his real name Garry Killian. He owns and dominate most of the clubs, private poker club, underground gambling events, and p**********n—especially in Virens City. Everybody knows to not messing with him, if they still want to be alive.
He’s untouchable, since he got a lot of his men working inside the law enforcement too.—maybe they’re trapped like Leanne, or maybe they’re just wicked and slaved by the money G has gave them. Working with the G-boss for five years make her knows a lot of stuffs that she actually doesn’t want to know.
“Yes, it went well.” Leanne put the gym-bag on his table.
“Great! You’re getting better at this.” He said with a proudful voice, as if it can make Leanne flattered with his compliment. As the matter of fact, it makes her sick of herself for hurting people by doing what G’s wants.
Leanne is never intended to stay long inside G-boss’s room, she was about to leave from there, when he called her.
“Where are you going? We’re gonna discuss the next mission.”
“What do you mean by next?” she’s speechless for a while. “Don’t we usually lay low for a while..?” After G-boss gets his money from their victims, usually Leanne got a few months of absences from her works. They do this G-boss’s rules every time, in order of being cautious instead of recklessly ‘robbing’ too much people in such a close timeline and makes their felony easily exposed.
“This project needs a different approach.. We need to handle it- - with extra caution.” His wicked smile showed on his face. “This mission is here. It’s BIG, very BIG -- the biggest gain we’d ever make. In fact, if you pull this off, I’m going to give you, your freedom.”
Yeah, right. Freedom. Leanne doesn’t even dare to echoes the word freedom inside her head, she knows better with G-boss there’s always a catch behind every offering.
“Here? In Virens?” said Leanne, speculating the mission. Because Leanne knows, in every mission she’s been assigned to, the selected targets were always from outside the city. Never in Virens City—‘his’ city, he made this is one of his rules too, the rules that put him in a safe position and makes his name clean.
No one ever have enough evidence, or bravery to deal with G-boss. Or even if someone brave enough to stand up and fight, the ending is always clear-- for either the evidence bizarrely missing, or she/he got killed first before they got a slight chance.
“Yes. You won’t need to use your alias name.”
Leanne didn’t like what she’s heard.
“I guess when you said something about freedom, that’s mean for me to exposing my true identity freely?” said Leanne refusing to be fooled, with a bit of anger in her voice.
“Well that’s another way to think.” G-boss took his cigar to his mouth, “Of course if you don’t want the part, I can always recruiting your sister.. in exchange of yourself.”. He looked at Leanne with a smug smile, his eyes told her to remember her place.
G-boss knows Leanne’s weakness. She has an older sister named Julie Collins, she’s rarely in touch with her, but Leanne knows Julie has her own family—living a happy life in Wilna City.
“Stay her out of this.” Said Leanne with her fist clenched.
“Hmm.. Maybe she would be the one who’s more obedience than you, less talking and just obey.. I’m sure she’d gladly take your role—since you’ve sacrificed enough for both your father and sister—”
“Stop, I’m gonna do it.” Leanne raised her voice, she can’t take the thoughts of Julie’s family--especially her kids getting hurt.
“Your father should be prou—” He kept talking, but Leanne didn’t let him finish his words.
“I SAID, I’m gonna DO IT!”
“Ah, good then..” He takes out a thin folder from his drawer and put it on the table. “This is your next mission.
Leanne is checking every information inside its folder. A few papers of name and address information, with a photo of one small family—a father, mother, and a daughter. She’s assuming that the daughter’s age is no more than three years old. Looking at the condition of the photo, she can tell that it’s not a new photo, makes her assuming the daughter’s might be a couple years older now.
“This is the man who’s I’m going to blackmail?”
“For now, and a few months ahead you don’t need to blackmail anybody..”
“I’m not following.” She felt her anxiety raised up, her instinct tells her that this mission would be the worse thing she’d ever done. She knows her ‘puppeteer’ too well, and the evil things he capable of.
“You’re going to work there.. and luckily for us, they’re hiring—just a perfect timing. You can apply to be the kid’s nanny, the head-housekeeper, his assistant – anything! As long as you earned your trusted position inside the house, and you’ll give the report to me.”
“What kind of report?”
“The kind that has all their habits, schedules, activities, securities, and all that jazz..” He wickedly-smiled again, maybe because he’s enjoying the way of being evil.
“Are you going to tell me the main plan of this mission?” said Leanne, feeling upset.
“That’s all you need to know for now.. You’ll report back to me every once in two or three weeks, discreetly. And when I said secretly—I mean as if your life depended on it. Is that clear..?”
No kidding, my life is literally-- on the line, every time! Jerk!
“Crystal.” She replied, while taking the whole document with her and leaving the room at once. She’s going to take a better look of it in her apartment, away from her puppeteer.
Five years ago, G-boss already took Dale Collins’s life --her father’s life. Her father had a weakness for gambling, it ruined her parent’s life, and her present life. Leanne’s mom left her dad for his gambling habit months before her father’s death. She left Julie and Leanne without saying anything.
At that time, Julie and Leanne they kept fight for their life, despite their father’s gambling addiction. Luckily for Julie, her university is in Wilna city—the place she lives now—far from Virens City. As for Leanne, she’s staying in Virens with her father, because she was still in her end term study back then, and she took the responsibility to take care of her father. Maybe she shouldn’t.
Leanne finished her study in the same time his father relation with G-boss was tied up, and ended with his father’s death. Now, Leanne had to pay the debt with her life.
She cannot drag Julie to her life, especially the kind of life with G-boss. Leanne has kept the life she’s living from Julie, even after their father’s death, Julie only knew that her father had it coming, but Julie never knew that Leanne is the one who has to live with their father’s mistake.
Leanne doesn’t care if she’s going to be G’s slave for the rest of her life, he will not have Julie like the way he owns her—she rather die, than to let that happen.
