808 Words
Selene pressed her back against the bark of the tree, trying to catch her breath. She was trembling all over. The shadowy attacker was met with Kieran's huge wolf. Their snarls reverberated through the night. Blood began to enhance the air while furious fighting ensued. Teeth were cried and claws slashed. Every single part of her contorted into not moving. Taking advantage of the frenzy to disappear. In short, run. It seemed like the universe was telling her to do so. But the craziness of Kieran's charged wolf had toggled something inside her the moment copy and paste shifted. Bursting to life from beneath the surface was a wolf that had one goal, capture. The ravenous, angry clawing at her insides was most definitely there for the alpha. No, absolutely not. The conclusion she had come about was that Kieran was incredibly dangerous. He catching as she would s***h claim would make a capturing proprietorial somewhere deep down. With a push she'd easily claim. But the entire sharp twain serving the violent fury ragged drove her most primal instincts enraged clawing clone forces all around. Blood splattered all over the leaves. Before she could come square and stop herself she let out a growl and the split second she lost breath the warrior Trainer skull directed from her frozen head snatched it. His golden eyes, burning even in the midst of battle, locked onto hers. Selene’s body went rigid. He had heard her. He had felt her. His opponent took advantage of the distraction, lunging at him. Selene barely had time to think—she just moved. Before she knew it, her body had shifted, bones breaking and reforming in a rush of power she had never felt before. Her wolf—a sleek, silver creature she had never dared to release—hit the ground running, a snarl tearing from her throat as she launched at the enemy. The creature—bigger than any rogue she had ever seen—whipped around in surprise, but it was too late. Selene’s claws struck deep, ripping into its flank. The beast yowled, staggering. And then, Kieran was there. His powerful jaw clamped down on its throat, ending it in one brutal snap. Silence. Selene stood there, panting, staring at the lifeless body beneath Kieran’s massive paws. The metallic taste of blood lingered in her mouth, her heart pounding. Kieran shifted first, his human form emerging from the darkness like a predator that had just been let loose from its cage. Selene lacked the copious amount of time to take in the force of his gaze before he closed the distance between them in a single stride. “What the hell was that?” His voice sounded dark, lethal. She didn’t answer. She couldn’t. The wolf side of her was still with the high of the fight, the bond between them surging stronger than ever. Kieran’s hand journeyed under Selene’s chin, compelling her to meet his gaze. He scrutinized her eyes that were brimming with ferocity and possession. “You shifted,” he murmured. “And you didn’t even hesitate.” Selene’s chest rose and fell rapidly as though she were panting. After years of being unable to shift, it now felt uncontrolled. So... unavoidable. Then Kieran had to witness it. Grinding her jaw, he inched closer to her. “Your wolf woke up because of me, didn’t it?” It was untrue. She wished to deny it. But answers were the last thing she wanted to hear. Because in the end she knew the truth. The deathly silence was the solution she needed. With my eyes closed, and pulse radiating through me, I understood he was the solution. But then-- A dangerous slowness worked over his mouth as he smiled. “You cannot escape this now, Selene. You cannot escape me.” An urgent and sharp howl removed any resemblance of calmness in the area. Kieran's face darkened in an instant. He changed his gaze to the direction of the sound as his hand fell from her face. “I told you to stay put,” he commanded. Selene’s instinct was to fight back. As a matter of fact, something felt off. However, before she could utter any words, he had already left, vanishing into the dark horizon. With a body still tingling from adrenaline, Selene struggled to swallow. Changes were afoot. And something told her that whatever the case may be… Armed with nothing but a silhouette and Shaky breaths, she told herself to calm down. But the moment she did that, a whisper that resonated from the shadows made her blood run cold. “So… you finally decided to shift." Because of that voice, I died inside. There was no ch ance of surviving the implications it brought. It would forever alter the course of my life.
