The seal had fractured. And the world changed with it. A faint tremble pulsed up through the marble floor under my bare feet, vibrating with the sound of ages past. Above them, the sky throbbed with fragments of black lightning, spiky and inhuman. The crystal windows of the Temple dimmed, and the silver vines that bound it to the earth rustled in fear. “The Devourer approaches.” "He is coming," one of the council members said. I looked up at the split sky, the ragged gash across the heavens. Something stirred within it—something huge and shapeless, twisting like vapor, stretching like talons. “Where is it?” Kael demanded. “Where is it coming through?” The council leader looked at me. “Not where. Who.” And a chill ran up my spine. “What are you saying?” I asked. She pointed—to me.
