Episode 11: Under Sniper Fire

Before the echo of the shattering glass could even register in Nisha’s mind, Reyansh reacted with superhuman speed. His powerful arm wrapped around her waist, forcefully pulling her away from the window and slamming his body over hers as they crashed onto the plush carpeted floor. *THWIP! THWIP!* Two more silenced bullets tore through the air, puncturing the leather executive chairs and embedding themselves deep into the mahogany wood of the desk right above their heads. Shards of reinforced glass rained down on them like a deadly silver shower. Nisha’s heart hammered against her ribs, her breath catching in her throat. She could feel the heavy, solid warmth of Reyansh’s chest pressing against her back, keeping her completely shielded from the window. The crimson laser dot of the sniper scope aggressively danced across the office walls, cutting through the rising dust, desperately searching for a target. "Don't move," Reyansh hissed near her ear, his voice lower and colder than she had ever heard it. The gentle, passionate husband from moments ago had instantly vanished, replaced by a ruthless predator fighting for survival. He slid his hand into his waistband and pulled out his matte-black revolver. With his other hand, he reached up to the underside of his desk, blindly hitting a hidden red panic button. Instantly, the heavy, motorized steel shutters of the executive office began to roll down, cutting off the sniper's line of sight and plunging the room into a tense, dimly lit shadow. Reyansh slowly rolled off her, helping her sit up against the solid concrete base of the office sofa. He checked her over with sharp, frantic eyes, his hands touching her shoulders and face. "Are you hit? Look at me, Nisha. Are you bleeding?" Nisha took a deep, ragged breath, forcing her racing mind to steady itself. She looked down at her midnight-blue suit—there was glass dust, but no blood. "I'm fine. I'm not hurt. Reyansh... that was a professional hit. The Singhanias didn't just want to scare us; they wanted us dead." Reyansh’s jaw clenched so hard the muscles jumped. A dark, terrifying malice swirled in his pitch-black eyes. "Vikram Singhania just signed his own death warrant. Nobody comes into my kingdom and targets my wife." Suddenly, his private phone buzzed on the floor where it had fallen. Reyansh picked it up. It was Aman. "Sir! We have an emergency!" Aman’s panicked voice leaked through the speaker. "The building’s main power grid has just been sabotaged from the basement! The elevators are frozen, and our security communication lines are dead. There is a hit squad masquerading as maintenance workers heading up the emergency stairwells right now! They are clearing the floors!" Reyansh’s expression didn't even flicker. He stood up in the shadows, checking the ammunition in his gun. "How many, Aman?" "At least six heavily armed men, Sir. Our floor security has been compromised. You need to get to the private safe room immediately!" "Isolate the security feed to my tablet using the backup satellite network," Reyansh commanded coldly. "And tell the perimeter team to block all exits. No one leaves this tower alive." He hung up and looked down at Nisha. He reached out, his large hand grasping hers, pulling her up to her feet. "The building is locked down. We can't use the elevators, and the stairwells are a trap. We are going to the private penthouse suite on the roof. It has a secure bunker." Nisha gripped his hand tightly, her eyes flashing with an equal amount of dangerous resolve. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the small, razor-sharp paper cutter she had kept from the previous night, along with a heavy steel letter opener from his desk. "I'm not going to sit in a corner and hide while they hunt us, Reyansh. If they want a war, let's give them one." Reyansh looked at the makeshift weapons in her hands, a slow, dark, and possessive smirk playing on his lips. "That's my girl. Stay low, stay behind me, and if anyone gets close... cut them without hesitation." The hallway outside the executive office was eerily quiet, illuminated only by the red emergency backup strips along the floor. The suffocating silence was broken only by the distant, heavy footsteps of combat boots echoing from the concrete stairwell at the end of the corridor. Reyansh led Nisha through a hidden service door behind his office bookshelf, leading to a private, narrow spiral staircase that connected directly to the roof penthouse. As they climbed the stairs silently, the heavy metal door at the bottom of the flight suddenly creaked open. The beam of a tactical flashlight swept up the dark stairwell. "They went up! Move, move!" a gruff voice whispered fiercely from below. "They're coming," Nisha whispered, her back pressed against the curved wall, her fingers tightening around the steel letter opener. Reyansh stopped three steps above her. He leaned over the railing, aiming his revolver down into the darkness. *BANG! BANG!* Two loud cracks shattered the silence of the stairwell. A heavy body thudded against the concrete below, followed by the clattering of an automatic weapon sliding down the steps. "Target has a weapon! Return fire!" A barrage of automatic gunfire erupted from below, sparks flying off the metal railings just inches from Reyansh's legs. Reyansh grabbed Nisha’s arm, pulling her rapidly up the remaining steps. "Go, Nisha! Move!" They burst through the heavy top door, stepping into the ultra-luxurious, open-concept rooftop penthouse. The glass walls offered a panoramic view of the stormy city skyline, but right now, it felt like a transparent cage. Before they could reach the reinforced steel door of the panic room at the back of the suite, the glass ceiling above them suddenly shattered. A masked assassin swung down on a tactical rope, kicking Reyansh squarely in the chest. The brutal force sent Reyansh crashing through a glass coffee table, his revolver flying out of his hand and sliding across the polished marble floor. "Reyansh!" Nisha screamed. The assassin detached himself from the rope, instantly drawing a wicked, serrated combat knife, moving directly toward the dazed Reyansh to finish the job. Nisha didn't think twice. The primal instinct to protect the man who had repeatedly saved her took over her entire body. She rushed forward, lunging at the assassin from behind, driving the heavy steel letter opener deep into the soft flesh of his shoulder. The assassin roared in agony, stumbling backward. He spun around, his bleeding shoulder twitching as he raised his knife to s***h at Nisha’s throat. But the distraction was all Reyansh needed. Reyansh was already on his feet, his face a mask of absolute, demonic fury. He grabbed the assassin’s outstretched arm, twisting it with a sickening *SNAP* that echoed through the room. The combat knife dropped from the man's lifeless fingers. Without pausing, Reyansh delivered a brutal, crushing knee to the assassin's ribs, followed by a powerful chokehold that slammed the man into the marble pillar until he went completely limp and unconscious. Reyansh dropped the body, his breathing heavy, his knuckles covered in blood. He didn't look at the fallen enemy. He lunged forward, grabbing Nisha by her shoulders, pulling her fiercely against his chest. His heart was beating like a jackhammer against her own. "I told you to stay behind me," Reyansh growled, his voice trembling with a rare, raw emotion that sounded dangerously like terror. "You could have died, Nisha!" Nisha wrapped her arms around his neck, looking up into his fierce, panicked eyes with a calm, beautiful smile. "I told you, Reyansh. We are partners. I won't let anyone take you away from me." Reyansh stared at her, his possessive gaze consuming her entirely, before he reached down, scooped up his dropped revolver, and dragged her into the reinforced panic room, slamming the heavy steel door shut just as the remaining hit squad burst into the penthouse. Inside the secure bunker, safe from the chaos outside, Reyansh pinned her against the metallic wall, his lips descending onto hers in a fierce, rough, and desperate kiss that tasted of iron, adrenaline, and undeniable, deep-seated love. The corporate war had just become a bloodbath, but trapped in the dark with each other, they knew the Singhania Syndicate had just unlocked the gates of hell. ### ## What happens next? The Malhotra security team arrives and neutralizes the remaining attackers. Now safe, Reyansh plans a devastating counter-strike to eliminate the Singhania Syndicate overnight. But as they prepare for the final corporate execution, an unexpected secret about Nisha’s past life is revealed.
