The flashing blue and red lights of the police cruisers illuminated the wet brick walls of the old Mansoori textile mill. Arnav and Riya, completely broken and humiliated, were dragged out in handcuffs, their desperate screams muffled by the heavy pouring rain.
Nisha stood beneath the concrete awning, watching the police vans drive away into the darkness. A strange, hollow sensation washed over her. She had won. She had successfully rewritten the timeline, sending her murderers to a living hell instead of dying at their hands. Yet, her hands were still cold, and her heart was beating at a frantic pace.
Suddenly, a heavy, warm wool jacket was draped over her drenched shoulders.
Nisha blinked and looked up. Reyansh was standing beside her, looking out at the retreating police cars. His expression was as unreadable as ever, but the gentle way he pulled the collar of the jacket closer around her neck spoke a completely different language.
"It’s over," Reyansh said, his deep voice slicing through the sound of the rain. "They won't be seeing the outside of a prison cell for a very long time. Let's go home."
Home. The word sounded unfamiliar, yet comforting. Nisha nodded silently, allowing him to guide her back to the Maybach.
The drive back to the Malhotra Mansion was wrapped in a suffocating, heavy silence. The adrenaline that had kept Nisha standing during the confrontation was finally fading, leaving behind pure, bone-deep exhaustion. By the time the luxury car pulled into the grand driveway of the fortress-like estate, Nisha was shivering violently, her teeth chattering despite the warmth of Reyansh’s jacket.
Reyansh noticed. He didn't say a word as he stepped out, walked around to the passenger side, and opened her door. Before Nisha could even attempt to step out on her unstable legs, Reyansh leaned in, slipped one strong arm under her knees and the other behind her back, and lifted her effortlessly into his arms.
"Reyansh! Put me down, I can walk," Nisha gasped, her hands instinctively grabbing his shoulders for balance.
"Quiet," he commanded smoothly, his dark eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that silenced her instantly. "You’re shivering like a wet leaf. Don't test my patience tonight, Nisha."
He carried her through the grand foyer, past the bowing servants who discreetly kept their eyes lowered, and straight up the grand staircase. Instead of taking her to her own bedroom at the end of the corridor, Reyansh kicked open the heavy oak doors to his master suite.
He set her down gently on the edge of his massive, plush king-sized bed. The room was dark, lit only by the amber glow of the fireplace crackling in the corner.
"Stay here," Reyansh murmured, turning on his heel and disappearing into the adjoining walk-in closet. A minute later, he returned, tossing a soft, dry oversized black silk shirt and a thick towel onto the bed. "Change into these. Your clothes are soaked."
Nisha gripped the silk fabric, feeling suddenly vulnerable in his massive, minimalist room. "Thank you. But why brought me to your room?"
Reyansh paused, standing near the fireplace. The flames cast an amber glow across his sharp jawline and the broad shoulders of his black silk shirt. "Because you shouldn't be alone tonight. And because I don't trust you not to do something reckless again."
Ten minutes later, Nisha emerged from the bathroom. The oversized black shirt hung loosely on her frame, reaching down to her mid-thighs, making her look incredibly delicate. She was towel-drying her long, damp black hair as she walked back into the bedroom.
Reyansh was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding two glasses of warm amber liquid. He handed one to her as she sat down, keeping a respectful distance, yet close enough that she could feel the radiating warmth of his body.
"Drink it. It's brandy. It will warm you up," he said, his voice softer than she had ever heard it before.
Nisha took a sip, the burning liquid instantly chasing away the chill in her chest. She stared down at the amber glass, her long eyelashes casting shadows on her cheeks. "Today... you risked your life. Arnav had a bomb, Reyansh. Why did you walk in there? Our contract didn't require you to face a madman."
Reyansh set his glass down on the nightstand. He turned his body fully toward her, his piercing dark eyes boring into her profile.
"I told you before, Nisha. I protect what is mine," he whispered, his voice dangerously low. "But more than that... when I saw that live feed, when I realized you had walked into that trap alone, the thought of arriving too late... it irritated me."
Nisha turned her head to look at him, her heart hammering against her ribs for a completely different reason now. "Irritated you? Or scared you?"
Reyansh’s gaze darkened. He stepped closer, closing the distance between them until he was looming over her. He reached out, his large, warm hand tangling into the damp strands of her hair, tilting her face up to meet his gaze. His thumb brushed against her lower lip, his touch a volatile mix of roughness and undeniable tenderness.
"You are a dangerous distraction, Nisha," Reyansh murmured, his eyes dropping to her lips before snapping back to her eyes. "You walked into my life out of nowhere, handed me a victory, and broke every single rule I set for this alliance. I don't like losing control. But when I look at you, I don't care about the rules anymore."
Nisha’s breath hitched. The cold, calculating corporate king was gone. In his place was a man burning with a dark, possessive passion. She could feel the heat radiating from him, standardizing her own hidden desires. In her past life, love had been a weapon used to destroy her. But looking into Reyansh’s fierce, protective eyes, she realized that this man wasn't a threat to her life—he was a sanctuary.
"Then don't care about them," Nisha whispered, her voice a breathless invitation.
Reyansh’s grip on her hair tightened slightly as a low growl escaped his throat. He leaned down, his lips stopping just a millimeter away from hers, his hot breath brushing against her skin. "Remember this night, Nisha. Because after this... there is no turning back. You are trapped in the devil's lair forever."
And with those words, he closed the distance, capturing her lips in a deep, fierce, and fiercely possessive kiss that officially burned their contract to ashes.
The lines of the contract have been completely blurred. The next morning, a powerful new corporate enemy—allied with Arnav's family—emerges to challenge the Malhotra Group, testing Nisha and Reyansh's new bond. How will they face this new threat as a real couple?
