Episode 8: Into the Flames

1535 Words
The air inside the grand foyer of the Malhotra Mansion instantly turned to ice. Nisha froze, her hand still resting on the heavy brass doorknob. She slowly turned around to face Reyansh. He was standing just a few feet away, his towering frame casting a long, intimidating shadow under the dim foyer lights. His black silk shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, but his posture was rigid, radiating a terrifying aura of controlled fury. In his right hand, he held his smartphone. The screen flickered, displaying the exact same live video feed of the old Mansoori textile mill that Nisha had just received. "Where do you think you're going without your weapon, wife?" Reyansh asked. His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a dangerous, low vibration that made the hairs on the back of Nisha’s neck stand up. Nisha swallowed hard, forcing her hands to stop shaking. She stepped away from the door, squaring her shoulders to look directly into his piercing dark eyes. "Reyansh, this is my battle. Arnav is desperate. He has wired the old textile mill—my mother's only remaining legacy—with explosives. If I don't go there alone within the next twenty minutes, he will blow it to pieces. I can't let him destroy her memory. I have to go." Reyansh walked toward her, his heavy, calculated footsteps echoing on the marble floor. He didn't stop until he was standing directly in front of her, his suffocating scent of expensive cologne and woodsmoke enveloping her completely. He reached out, his large, warm hand gripping her chin, forcing her to look up at him. "Let me remind you of something, Nisha," Reyansh whispered, his thumb brushing against her jawline with a possessive roughness. "The moment you signed that marriage contract, your battles became my business. If anyone thinks they can threaten my wife and get away with it, they are gravely mistaken. You are not going there alone to play a martyr." "But the guards—" Nisha protested, her breath hitching at his sudden proximity. "Arnav said if he sees a single Malhotra security guard, he will press the detonator!" A cold, lethal smirk spread across Reyansh’s handsome face. "He won't see any guards. Because I am going with you. Just the two of us. Now, get in the car." The dark sleek Maybach tore through the rain-slicked streets of the city like a predatory beast. Reyansh drove himself, his hands gripping the steering wheel with white-knuckled intensity. Beside him, Nisha stared out the window, her mind racing. In her past life, Arnav and Riya had taken everything from her by force. But this time, she wasn’t a helpless victim. She had the devil himself riding beside her. Within fifteen minutes, the car pulled up a block away from the abandoned Mansoori textile mill. The structure was old, its weathered brick walls shrouded in the dark, stormy night. Inside, a single flickering light bulb cast eerie shadows through the broken windows. "Listen to me carefully," Reyansh said, turning off the engine. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a sleek, matte-black revolver, checking the chamber before tucking it into his waistband. He then handed Nisha a small, high-tech earpiece. "Put this in. I will enter through the rear drainage slip. You walk through the front door just like he wanted. Keep him talking. Do not let him see that you are afraid." Nisha took the earpiece, her eyes flashing with a dangerous, matching resolve. "I'm not afraid of him anymore, Reyansh. Not since I died once." Reyansh stared at her for a long beat, intrigued by the dark mystery behind her words, before nodding softly. "Go. I’m right behind you." The rusted iron doors of the mill groaned loudly as Nisha pushed them open. The air inside was thick with the suffocating smell of dust, old fabric, and a heavy, unmistakable scent of gasoline. Yellow canisters were lined up along the wooden pillars, connected by thick black wires to a digital timer blinking on the central brick column. 07:42... 07:41... 07:40... The countdown was ticking away. "Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up," a mocking voice echoed from the upper metallic gantry. Nisha looked up. Arnav was standing there, a white bandage wrapped tightly across his broken nose, his face twisted into an ugly, manic sneer. Beside him stood Riya, clutching a sleek black remote control with a single red button. Both of them looked completely unhinged, their clothes rumpled and their eyes wild with the desperation of trapped animals. "You really thought you could ruin us and live happily ever after in your billionaire mansion, didn't you, sister?" Riya spat down at her, her voice dripping with venomous jealousy. "Look at you, wearing designer clothes while we are facing total bankruptcy! Dad won't even answer our calls because of your monster husband!" Nisha took a slow, deliberate step forward, her high heels clicking sharply against the concrete floor. She didn't look at the bomb; she kept her cold, unwavering gaze fixed on her sister. "You brought this upon yourselves, Riya. You and Arnav built your foundation on betrayal and blood. Did you honestly think the universe wouldn't demand repayment?" Arnav walked down the metal stairs, clutching a heavy iron rod in his hand. His eyes were bloodshot. "Shut up! I don't want to hear your philosophical garbage, Nisha! You are going to fix this. Right now." He tossed a thick stack of legal documents onto a rusted table in front of her. "Those are power of attorney papers for all of your father's remaining shares, along with a full transfer of your personal bank accounts to me. Sign them. Sign them right now, or Riya presses that button, and we all blow up together!" Nisha looked down at the papers, a slow, chilling smile spreading across her lips. It was the exact same greed that had killed her in the past. "And what if I refuse, Arnav?" Nisha asked, her voice eerily calm. "What if I choose to watch you burn?" "Then you die here!" Arnav roared, raising the iron rod, rushing toward her with blind rage. Nisha didn't flinch. She stood her ground, counting the seconds in her head. Three... two... one... BANG! A sharp, deafening gunshot echoed through the cavernous mill. The iron rod flew out of Arnav's hand as a bullet shattered the metal, grazing his knuckles. Arnav screamed in agony, collapsing to his knees as blood splattered onto the concrete floor. "Ahhh! My hand! Someone shot me!" Arnav yelled, clutching his bleeding fingers. Riya gasped in horror, her eyes widening as she looked toward the shadows near the back entrance. Walking out from the darkness, his smoking gun held with absolute precision, was Reyansh Malhotra. His expression was completely blank, devoid of any human emotion—the true face of a corporate demon. "I warned you at the gala, Arnav," Reyansh said, his voice cutting through the damp air like a razor blade. "Touch my wife, and you pay with your life. It seems your listening skills are as pathetic as your business skills." "Malhotra!" Riya screamed, her thumb hovering directly over the red button on the remote. "Don't step any closer! I swear to God, I will press it! I'll blow us all to hell!" Reyansh didn't stop walking. He kept his steady pace, his eyes locked onto Riya with a terrifying, predator-like intensity. "Press it, then." Riya froze, caught off guard by his utter lack of fear. "What...?" "Press it," Reyansh repeated, stepping right next to Nisha, his arm wrapping possessively around her waist. "But before your finger can even sink half a millimeter into that plastic, my next bullet will tear a hole clean through your forehead. Would you like to bet on who is faster, Miss Riya?" The sheer, suffocating pressure of Reyansh's aura broke Riya's remaining sanity. Her hand began to shake violently, tears of pure terror streaming down her face. She looked at her bleeding, groveling accomplice Arnav, and then at the invincible couple standing before her. She realized, with absolute certainty, that they had lost. Nisha stepped forward out of Reyansh’s grip, walking right up to the trembling Riya. With a swift, brutal motion, Nisha slapped Riya hard across the face, sending her crashing to the floor. The remote control flew out of Riya's hand, landing safely on the ground. Nisha picked up the remote and immediately switched off the timer. The digital clock blinked and died at 03:12. Nisha knelt down, grabbing Riya by her hair, forcing her younger sister to look into her dark, vengeful eyes. "This is the end of your game, Riya. You wanted a tragedy, but you forgot that I am the one writing the script this time." Outside, the distant sirens of the Malhotra Group private security and the police began to wail, cutting through the heavy storm. The nightmare was finally over. Arnav and Riya are officially arrested and erased from the corporate world forever. But as Nisha and Reyansh return to the mansion, the adrenaline of the night turns into an unexpected, passionate confrontation behind closed doors. Is their contract marriage turning into something real?
