CHAPTER ONE: THE MATING CEREMONY. The night air clung thick with anticipation, charged with the raw, ancient energy of the mating moon. High above the forest, the full moon hung low and heavy, casting silver light through the canopy. The wood surrounding the crescent hollow pack shimmered, every leaf whispering secrets to the wind. From deeper in the shadows came the haunting music of wolves howling- not for the hunt, but for fate. Aria blackthorn stood at the edge of the ceremonial clearing, fingers curled tightly around the hem of her midnight- blue cloak. Her breath came slow and shallow, every inhaled steeped in moon- chilled nerves. Beneath her ribs, her heart pulsed to a rhythm that didn’t feel entirely her own. It beats for some one else. For him. Logan Stormwind. Alpha of the crescent Hollow. Feared and revered. Born of bloodline forged by battles, chosen by strength and, if the moon goddess heard her silent pleas, her fated mate. She had known him since they were pups- watched him run wild through the trees, golden eyes and reckless. He’ d grown into a powerful leader, jaw carved from stone, voice sharp with command. He was stoic, always watching, always calculating. He rarely spoke more than needed and never of matter of the heart. But still, she felt him. Saw him. In fleeting moments, she caught glimpses of the boy behind the Alpha’s mask- like when he found her alone, training in a snowstorm- she hadn’t asked for help, hadn’t dared. But he’d silently throw her his jacket and stood guard while she pushed through her final drills.or after the rogue attack last spring when Aria had worked until her hands bled, healing the wounded. He’d pulled her, brow furrowed. “ You can’t heal anyone if you break yourself.” It Wasn’t affection. Not exactly. But it was something. Enough to make her believe he saw her. That quiet hope had carried her for years- through training, duty, and endless restraint. She was a warrior. A healer. A daughter of crescent Hollow. Everything she had done, she’d done for the pack. And maybe if she was honest••••for him. Tonight was the mating ceremony. The night destines were unveiled, mates chosen not by will, but by the divine touch of the moon goddess. No wolf could predict the bond. Only answer It. The clearing had been transformed into a sacred haven. Moon flowers bloomed in a glowing circle around the ancient Moonstone Altar, fireflies dancing like stars among the trees. The pack gathered in clusters, laughter mixing with tense anticipation. Wolves of age would step forward, one by one, called by the elders. If the Goddess saw a match, the bond would awaken. Aria’s gaze drifted across the clearing. There he was. Logan stood with his Beta and inner circle his tall frame wrapped in ceremonial black. His golden eyes swept under the gathering, unreadable, distant. Then - just for a second- his gaze caught hers. He didn’t smile. But he didn’t look away. Her stomach twisted, nerves tangling with desperate hope. “Aria .” A voice broke through the fog of her thoughts. Elara, her closest friend, stood beside her, blue eyes, wide and shimmering with excitement. “ Are you ready?” “No”, Aria whispered- and then forced herself to nod. “ Yes”. The Elders stepped forward. The ceremony began. Name after name echoed through the night. Some pairs stepped forward, embraced, celebrated. Others walked back alone, hollowed- eyed, their hearts untouched by fate. And then the Elders voice rose again sharp and clear. “ Aria Blackthorn. Step forward “ The world tilted. Her breath hitched. Her wolf surged beneath her skin, wild and eager. Aria stepped forward, bare feet brushing the mossy floor. The world faded to a hush. The Elder continued. “ Logan Stormwind. Step forward.” Gasps cut through the clearing. Time stopped. Aria’s heart pounded. He moved . Slowly, deliberately, Logan crossed the space between them, his every step heavy with power. He stopped just a breath away. She could feel the heat of him, the weight of him, the pull. Her soul strained towards his, her wolf keening with recognition. This was it . The moment their fate. He looked into her eyes- golden and unreadable, her lips parted. And then he said, voice cold and steady: “ I Logan Stormwind, reject you Aria Blackthorn, as my mate.” The world shattered . “ What?”. The word fell from her lips like a dying breath. “ I don’t accept this bond”, Logan said. His tone was final. Distant. As if he were discussing a weather report. As if this wasn’t her soul he was breaking. Silence rippled outward. And then ,like venom sliding from the shadows, came the sound of laughter. Aria turned, vision swimming. Celeste Nightshade- flawless, venomous and victorious- stepped forward. Her silver gown clung like a second skin, her smirk razor- sharp. “ Logan”, she purred, brushing fingers down his arm. “ Are you ready for our turn?” The elder hesitated.” Logan, are you -.” “ I am“, Logan said , eyes never straying back to Aria. The air left her lungs. Her knees buckled. Pain exploded in her chest- a white hot, soul deep in agony as the bond tore loose. Her wolf howled in anguish, a raw, unrelenting sound that echoed through the trees. She clutched at her chest, gasping, breaking. Tears blurred her vision. Her body collapsed to the earth. “Aria”, Elara Aria’s friend screamed. Or maybe she only thought it. Somewhere far away, her friend screamed her name. But Aria couldn’t hear. All she saw was his back. Logan. Walking away. Walking towards Celeste. He never looked back. And in that moment, in dirt before the altar, before the moon goddess herself something inside her broke. Irreparably. Her world. Her heart. Her soul. “What did she do to deserve this “ said one of the female werewolves. “ Why did such have to happen to her, she is so kind and pure in heart. Why do bad things happen to the good ones.” Said another werewolf from within the crowd. “Now there will be gossips about what happened here tonight, gossips about her rejection ,how will she be able to cope?” said Katie Aria’s friend. “The moon watches and there will come a day when she will get her revenge for today” said Elara Aria’s friend.
