Stupid. That's what I was. Having left the bar I'd sped off, down the hill, towards fhe bridge. This was all my land. I knew I could park the truck in a thicket of trees, obscure it from the road, from view of passersby. The bar had been closed for the night, all regulars informed. I feigned a re-vamp of the establishment, and plastered signs over the front doors. Judging by the weather tonight, nobody was coming out anyway. I didn't anticipate his move. I'd been too rash. Too caught up in her. I tried to move my neck but it was stiff from the steep, heart stopping slip down the embankment. The crazy f**k had severed my brakes. Why I hadn't checked the car over, I don't know. Now I was sitting in a gully, another seven minutes at least, added to my journey. Seven minutes was enough.
