Chapter 2 The Purple Eyes

1382 Words
(Axel’s POV) I slowly approach a woman laying on cool forest floor, as my eyes dart around, checking my surroundings, making sure it isn’t a trap. The smell of blood fills my nose, as I walk towards the woman, taking in the state of her body. She was taken down by a wolf, there is no doubt in my mind, and judging by the smell on her she just had a pup. But where is it, I know I heard its cry, I freeze hoping to hear the cry once more. “Wa” my ears perked up, “wa” I turn towards the noise, following it, hoping the baby is okay. I walk a few more steps and hear a low growl. I turn my head and there stands a rogue, his eyes trained on me. “What are you doing here?” I ask him. “I am searching for something, once I have it, I will leave.” He sneered. “Maybe, I can help, just tell me what it is you are looking for.” I respond. He laughs, “No offense Alpha, but I doubt you will let me leave once I have what I desire in my hands.” I slowly smile, “If you are talking about that pup, I was hearing cry, then yes you are right you won’t be leaving with it.” I watched as shock ran across his face, but it soon turned into a smirk, “So, you know she is here. Do you know what I want with her?” I shrugged my shoulders, “I don’t really care what you want with her Rogue, but she is on my land and therefore she is under my protection. So, I would suggest you leave, now!” I let out a warning growl, and he stepped back arms raised in the air, “Alright, Alpha, you win! But I should warn you, I am not the one who wants her, I am the errand boy. Paid off by some i***t, who was paid off by his boss, so good luck!” With that he ran off. I slowly turned around, realizing that it had been awhile since I heard the child cry. My eyes darting this way and that, looking for something that says that the pup is here, something not normally found in the woods. That is when I found a sign, a purple blanket laying on the ground. I walk towards it and see it is wrapped around the pup; the pup who is slowly turning blue. I act fast, knowing this pup doesn’t have long, I run towards the pack doctor mind linking him as I run ‘I found pup who will freeze to death if you don’t meet me at the door of the hospital.’ ‘The mother?’ Doctor Hatch asks through the mind link. ‘Dead, but from what I can see she just had this pup not too long ago.’ I responded back to him. Soon I am at the door handing her off “Keep me updated on her progress,” I tell him as I watch him walk away with a nod of understanding. I turn down a hall knowing that Doctor Hatch won’t let me follow him, so, I go to check on my Mate. I walk into the room and see that the boys are with her, “Why aren’t you two in bed?” “We couldn’t sleep, we were worried about her, and well you dad.” Skyler respond as he eyed me up and down.  I smile at that, “I am fine boys, I promise, I am more worried about your mother at this point. Now why don’t you two go to bed, you can come back in the morning. She will be awake then, and we will all need to be there for her.” They nod their heads and get up from their chairs. “Good night” they both say as they give me a hug and leave the room. I turn towards Angel and grab her hand, “I am so sorry that this happened, I will get to the bottom of this, I promise you.” A nurse walks in to check her vitals, “When will the sedatives leave her system?” I ask the nurse. She looks at me, a smile of understanding on her face, “It should be out of her system in about 30 minutes.” She tells me as she looks at her watch. I nod my head at her and continue to hold my sweet Angel’s hand. As I watch her sleep peacefully, I start thinking about that little pup from the forest. What am I to do with her? I contemplate everything about the pup and what I should do with her, when I feel something squeeze my hand. I look up and see the most beautiful blue eyes, the eyes of my mate. “What are you thinking about?” She asks me. “Shouldn’t I be the one asking the questions?” I ask back smiling at her. “Fine, but after you do, I want a distraction from what happened. Therefore, you are to answer my questions too, get my mind off of everyting” Angel says teary-eyed. “Alright, my questions are easy yes and no questions anyway, I will spare you with the hard ones for at least two days.” I say with a soft smile, as I kiss her forehead, “Are you okay? Do you know what the end results are from the attack? Are you mad at me?” Angel’s eye flashed with different emotions the last one being confusion. “Yes, yes, and why would I be mad at you? None of this is your fault, Alex had us all fooled.” I huffed at that, “I guess I am being harder on myself then you are on me, but let me tell you, this isn’t your fault either.”  I tell her with a small smile on face.   She gives me a quick kiss, and pats the bed, signaling for me to sit next her. I climb in and put my arm around her, rejoicing in the fact that at least she is still breathing, and her heart is beating.  We soon fall asleep, the frozen pup quickly forgotten as I sleep.   ***3 hours later*** “Alpha Axel,” I hear someone calling me, I moan sleepily as I try to will my eyes open. When I open my eyes, I see Doctor Hatch standing in front of me, thoughts of the frozen pup fill my head. “How is she?” I quickly ask, but quietly, hoping Angel will stay asleep. “Alive, but I am not sure she will make it, the next 48 hours will tell me if she will survive.” He responds quickly. “What are you two talking about?” A drowsy voice asks from besides me. So much for keeping her asleep, “That is a long story, I will tell you that version later, the short version is that I found a pup in the woods. She was almost dead from the cold, her mother is gone, she was attacked.” The look of disbelief and shock filled her face “What are you going to do with her if she lives?” Angel asked me, to which I just shrugged my shoulders.  Then she said the words I never thought she would say after her long day. “Let us take her in then, she will be our new pup. I know she won’t replace the one that Alex killed but she needs a home, and I will love her, just the same.” After I finally found my voice again, I looked her straight in the eye, “Are you sure?” “Yes!” I nodded as I turned to look at Doctor Hatch, “Bring her in!” The doctor brought her in and immediately Angel was attached, she asked if she could hold the little pup. Doctor Hatch hesitated at first but figured her wolf’s heat was just as warm as the incubator, so he handed the pup to Angel. “What should we name her?” I asked quietly. “How about Lizzy, after your mother.” Angel hummed. “Alright, that is fine by me.” I smiled We both watched Lizzy, love evident in our eyes, we knew she was something special. Especially, when she shocked us all by crying not 15 minutes after Angel but her back in her incubator. Angel picked her back up and calmed her down. Soon Lizzy was opening her eyes looking around with brown eyes. “Axel?” Angel piped. “Mmhmm?” I hummed. “Was it just me or did her eyes flash purple for a moment there?”
