Chapter 4

2086 Words
The cold nights air wraps around me like a frozen blanket and I shiver pulling my robes closer to me. I look up and see Theo standing in front of me he puts his arm around me and I get a bit closer due to the cold nipping at my very likely red face. His body provides a bit of warmth but I'm grateful for all the warmth I can get right now. We carry on walking forward following the soft glow of the lamps above us until I hear a familiar unmistakable voice. "Firs' years firs' years over here, Alright there Harry? Thea?" I hear him say more clearly as we get closer until he eventually recognises us. "C'mon, follow me, any more firs years? Mind yer step now, dies years follow me," tripping over and stumbling on their feet they rush to follow Hagrid to wherever he's taking us but my small group of new friends stay back and walk a bit slower so we aren't being stomped on by angsty people rushing to the front. We are lead down a narrow dark path that is only luminated by the lamp carried in the half giants hand. Either side was dark so presumably we are in some type of Forrest setting with thick trees invading us in. A sound emitted from the group in front of us and a small sound escapes me when I see why. In front of me is a beautiful castle stood tall on the shores of a lake. The lights glistening so magically around it reflecting into the same lake. "Alrigh' firs' years four to a boat, four to a boat, that's it, everybody in well then, forward," As we set off onto our small journey to the massive castle in the slightly rocky wooden boat I look towards Draco and smile slightly when I see him looking. He furrows his eyes bores for a moment before speaking. "Why were you so hesitant to tell me your name when I first asked you?" Of all the things I expected him to say that was not one of them and I laugh a little causing him to scowl and blush. Which he would later in deny. "Because so far since I've come into the wizarding world everyone has been treating me and Harry weird. Every time someone hears our names or sees that we're near by they have to ask for a handshake or want to ask questions and even want to see our scars Harry isn't too uncomfortable with it but I am. I don't like all the attention on me for something I don't remember nor that I could control." I ranted and rambles a bit but he didn't seem to mind too much. He looks into the lake and smiles softly when he also sees me looking into its hypnotic beauty. "It's the black lake, home to many dangerous but beautiful creatures," Theo speaks up. He doesn't seem to do that much he and Blaise seem to be quiet. "What you said before has anyone given you a hard time so far on your journey about you scar, and your life," It's a genuine question but I still roll my eyes as I nod confirming what I'm sure he already knows. He looks at me in sympathy and shrugs. "Do you know any of their names?" "One of them introduced himself as Ronald Weasley, the other as Hermione Granger the other ones weren't too bad and I could handle." I look at him when Draco makes a noise at my answer I look at him In confusion before he answers. "He's a disgrace to the name of magic just like his family, they're all poor because the parents can't seem to stop having kids. It's really one after the other, so all they really know is hand me downs and they are friends with muggles, they love them and want to live along side them could you imagine if muggles knew what we were? how they would treat us?" I shudder just thinking of it. A few minutes later and we are being led into the castle by Hagrid where he meets a strict looking woman called Professor McGonagall. She looks like the type of woman who could be your closest and most loyal alley but if you have her for an enemy your life will be hell. After a few meeting words she departs and tells us she'll come back shortly. "So it's true then what they said in the train, Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts, I'm Malfoy Draco Malfoy," I hear a snicker and look to the left of his too see Ronald snickering and laughing at the sound of his name. "You think my names funny do you? No need to ask yours, red hair and a hand me down robe you must be a Weasley. You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others potter, I can help you there," He holds out a hand for my brother but by the look on his face I can already tell how this is going to go. "I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks, come on Thea come over here there's no need to hand around with people like that," ugh I hate how he judges so easily. Like I said despite all we have in common the one thing we don't is our taste in friends. "I'm quite okay here thank you Harry, but I hope you enjoy your company," I say looking distastefully at Ronald. His robes too big and hanging off him. Ink smeared across his nose and his hair obviously unbrushed. We are being led through by the same strict woman that we had previously met I have learnt that she's the deputy headmistress and the transfiguration professor. As we enter the great hall I am surrounded by light, happiness and warmth from the magic around me. This is home. Oh, you may not think I'm pretty, But don't judge on what you see, I'll eat myself if you can find A smarter hat than me. You can keep your bowlers black, Your top hats sleek and tall, For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat And I can cap them all. There's nothing hidden in your head The Sorting Hat can't see, So try me on and I will tell you Where you ought to be. You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve and chivalry, Set Gryffindors apart; You might belong in Hufflepuff Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true, And unafraid of toil; Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind; Or perhaps in Slytherin, You'll make your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means, To achieve their ends. So put me on! Don't be afraid! And don't get in a flap! You're in safe hands (though I have none) For I'm a Thinking Cap!" I look towards the front of the room just as the hat started to sing and I'm amazed by it. A hat is singing although it does look and sound a bit old do they never think of at least washing it before students are presented it. The hall explodes in cheers and the hat bows to all four tables that are lined up about 10 meters away from the other before going deathly still. "When I call your name you will sit on the stool and put on the hat to be sorted." Says she as a massive parchment is rolled down with our names on it no doubt. "Abbott Hannah," It sits on her head for a few moments before crying out "Hufflepuff" "Bones Susan," "Hufflepuff," It keeps on going through the name in alphabetical last name order. "Granger Hermione," "Gryffindor," It kept on going and soon she called, "Malfoy Draco," He smirked cockily as it had barely touched his head before creaming Slytherin. I smile at him as he looks my way and he smiles and winks back. "Nott Theodore," "Slytherin" It seems they really are all Slytherin. It's not long before many of the names have been called and she says "Potter Harry," "Potter?" "Harry Potter did she say?" "The Harry Potter?" I roll my eyes and concentrate on the sorting. I can see him mumbling something to hat but we're too far away to actually hear and before long it says, "Gryffindor," Oh lord my new friends are in Slytherin, my brother is in Gryffindor where Granger and No doubt Weasley will go. What do I do? But I have no time to ponder because, "Potter Theodora," "Theodora potter?" "Both of them are here," "I wonder if they remember anything from that night," It takes all my strength to not glare at them will everything I've got when I hear that last comment. It's the most common one of them all and I hate it. I walk towards the stall praying this isn't a dream and they got this right. That I won't put on the hat only for them to tell me they made a mistake and I have to go back to the Dursleys. I look towards Blaise who hasn't yet been sorted and he gives me a thumbs up and a small smile. I look at the Slytherin table and Theo and Draco do the same with an added wink from Draco. And when I look towards my brother I see him glaring haltingly at Draco. The last thing I see before the hat was lowered down blocking my vision was everyone craning their necks to get a better look at me. "Hmm another potter ey I have to say you look like your mother but you haven't got traits like either of them. How very peculiar, This is quite hard. You wouldn't do well in Hufflepuff, you kind and loyal but only to those who you deem worthy of it, So that's out. Gryffindor is a no also. You're brave but you're not daring, you should bravery only when you need it and you have to much self perseverance to put yourself into a situation recklessly. So that leaves Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Very difficult also. You could do well in both however you are only willing to learn something that you find interesting and that will somehow benefit you or your friends. You have a cunning mind an ambitious heart. A healthy amount of self preservation and you show tremendous leadership qualities. Oh yes I know where to put you now. Better be 'SLYTHERIN'," The whole hall is silent but soon Draco and Theo start clapping Influencing Blaise Greg and Vincent to join in and before long the whole Slytherin table is jolly looking at the Gryffindor table in a sort of sumgness before the prefects stand up to welcome me. After everyone was sorted a feast is served and I ate as much as my small stomach would allow me too. Earned some looks from my peers but I really don't care. I was right Ronald was sorted into Gryffindor and Blaise was sorted into Slytherin. "Ok now that we have finished and reminded of the rules and we've sung out r song let the prefects lead you to your living quarters." Dumbledore the old and still ageing headmaster spoke in his weird croaky voice an d a weird glint in his eyes as he looks over us all his eyes stopping on me for a slight second and the light dims a bit before it returns and he dismisses everyone. I look towards Harry and give him a bright smile still unbelieving that we have made it this far but all he does is glare with hatred clear in his eyes and he and Ronald leave the hall with the prefect leading only Ronald looks back and gives me a look of pure and utter disgust. "Don't worry you'll get used to it this is the way us Slytherins live and so long as you stay loyal we protect our own with everything we have," a man with crooked teeth and a scarred face says. I learned his name was Marcus Flint The quidditch captain. I loop arms with Draco and Theo while Blaise, greg and Vince talk behind us. And so that is how my journey at Hogwarts has started.
