CHAPTER 31 Danny's heart raced. He'd been walking awhile now, and he stumbled as a loud clanging followed by a terrible crash rang through the forest. He scurried to the large clearing ahead, and the sight made his jaw drop. People—or fae, he thought—and wild beasts were throwing blows at one another with steel weaponry and magic. Some needed neither and attacked with claw and bone. His heart raced even faster at the sight of a smoky black steed snorting wildly. Sitting on its saddle was a figure hidden by a black cloak that hung so long it covered most of the horse's backside. The horseman held his right hand high in the air, and something dangled from it, but Danny couldn't see what it was from where he hid in the distance.
