"This secret is going to cause a lot of harm," Deacon said carefully. "It's going to be personal and affect a lot of people. It's going to affect you. It's going to throw your current relationship with this specific person out of balance when they find out. It's going to destabilise where you are now. It's not completely a bad thing — it leaves a window open for you both to express yourselves and be heard. You'll both get the chance to tell your side of the story."
"Since when has story-telling ever helped anybody?"
"Ready for the next card?"
"Why the hell not?"
He flipped it over. It was of a woman, sitting on some kind of throne. "The empress. The card of motherhood and fertility."
"Oh, joy," I muttered, but an icy slither tip-toed along my spine. The cards could have
