Chapter 5 Cocktails, codes and gossip

On my way to “ The Whispering Key” i texted Sammy to let her know i was on my way. Unusual name for a speak easy, can’t find much about it online.
I’m curios to see what it looks like and what there is to eat.
Can’t wait for the experience but what i’m hoping for more than anything is those pants she”ll bring me. It’s a bit of a drive before i get to the location. Luckily, i found a spot right away to park my car. Sammy texted me she’ll be there in ten minutes. She said she was a bit delayed because of dicision stress.
Then i just listen to the radio. Listen to funky soul with us now…
I was busy on my phone when i was startled when someone knocked om my window. I looked up hastily only to see that it was Sammy. What i didn’t see was something extra, i asked her if she brought anything for me? She can’t hear me, hahhaha too long day with a lot of drama.
Got out of the car and said again, i don’t see anything extra. She said what do you mean and gave me a lap and she said i am the extra’s. I laughed and said anyway where are the pants.
Her mouth opened so wide because she couldn’t believe she had been forgetten. She kept saying sorry, i brushed it off and said why she was in such a hurry.
Sammy started talking about a boy she was talking to. Didn’t want to discourage but hopefully better than the last one.
We walked together to an alley where the bar is. A bit vaque but also exciting, because why is it hidden.
Sammy started off by telling me how no one knew who founded it but that boy she was talking about brought her here. No one just walks in. They have a secret word each evening. Which you have to say or you won’t get it.
I asked her how she would know the secret word. She said that you get it via text message.
The door was at the back of the alley. Sammy knocked four times but between two breaks. Usually i have to think that a hatch is going to open.
But a window on the side opened, she said the word b*tch. I was just schocked because that couldn’t possibly be the word. But yes, because the door opened immediately after she said it.
The bar itself is a paradox: luxury and decay, neon and shadows. Silence and music you feel rather than hear. The walls are covered with wild flowers, some of whose flowers were in bloom and others still had buds. No one knows why, but looked nice.
We were able to find a spot with a table. Not only was it too big, but the atmosphere was cozy and you certainly weren’t cold.
Man introduced himself as Elias.
Gave us the menu and said he would be back in ten minutes. There were great drinks names on the menu but what i looked at first was the food. Not only did i see five items, but small dishes on the menu.
Why don’t people eat more or is there more of a strategy? Who knows, no idea but i just wanted to eat. Sammy saw me peeking at the menu and suggested we get something afterward because she knows how much i value a meal.
Saw the names of the coktails:
- Neon Mirage
- Ghost Signal
- The Glitch in the Glass
- Forbidden Update
- Your Shadow
They had all great names but these really stood out. Elias came back and started taking our orders, asked him if there was anything special on the menu with something else to eat. He looked at me and i felt like maybe he misunderstood me.
I think he could barely hear me through the band performing. Finally, he asked me if i could be a little more specific in my proposal. Not only was i glad the lights were dimmed. Asked him if the kitchen had anything special that wasn’t on the menu, like nachos or piece of toasted bread with a wide topping.
Elias couldn’t help but smirk. He indicated that the kitchen is small and can’t prepare anything large. But he’ll see what he can arrange. Before he asked for me, he wanted to know what drinks we wanted.
Ordered a forbidden update for myself and Sammy chose a ghost signal and a calamari to go with it and the mini meatballs. Told Elias that i better see him back later with a better option but for now we’ll have this.
After our server left, Sammy asked how the conversation with Julian went. Told that it went well, better than what i expected.
Only at the end did he suggest i pay close attention to my surroundings, especially if anything suspicious or unusual appeared. Which i found odd after experiencing something strange in the toilet today.
She herself admitted that she heard from others there experienced something strange last week. The other departments indicated that the were out of supplies or the system was failing.
It’s strange, especially when Julian say to pay extra attentoin. We both couldn’t draw a direct line. Who or how these things happend
We changed the topic and chatted about other gossip. We’re still gossiping avout the newest couples in the company or the flings.
But suddenly something clicked where we both looked at each other.
Elias arrived at that moment with our drinks and snacks.
Not only did the clicked moment fade away, we also enjoyed the atmosphere and the delicious drinks. Elias however came with some disappointing news. It’s not possible to make anything then what’s on the menu.
We continued to enjoy the music.
